The biggest difference between you and Kev Talbot is that you actually say “What the heck are you doing Traxxas?” Instead of claiming everything they make is the best! Don’t get me wrong I like his channel but I believe it’s lost something over the years. Your channel however has gotten better while still staying true to the hobby and what should come in a $400+ vehicle! An updated transmitter (the 7000yr old line had me 😂), a metal servo and motor heat sink with fan! Also actually contacting Traxxas, like in your Bandit video, and questioning the gearing for the claimed MPH on their boxes! Hats off to you and cheers! Brilliant channel and one of the best in my opinion! Thanks from Ohio USA!

As much money as Traxxas charges for their 10+ year old tech. They should ABSOLUTELY have a fan already installed. Honestly. Every high-speed rc vehicle should have both motor AND controller fans. They should also have better servo's. It is 2024. There is NO reason for a factory servo to only last 6 months to a year with regular use. That isn't just a Traxxas thing either.

You forgot servo and honestly updates to the VXL because it's outdated... Other 3s electronics perform so much better for a much lower price at this point. The thing is, the base of their cars aren't bad and i wouldn't mind this if they updated other aspects like you said. Other companies do the same thing and just have minor updates. But Traxxas charges massive amounts of money for the exact same crappy parts people have been begging for upgrades for years at this point. I love my 2WD slash and Maxx, but that's because they have everything upgraded besides the chassis lol.

@Blehme4 ай бұрын
@@TomleyRC Thats the thing though. Your planning upgrades to make a Traxxas work out of the box. I know most manufacturers have a really crappy servo (both Traxxas and Arrma are going to break straight away) but Traxxas your also likely to start upgrading parts to simply make it a functional product. Arrma does a bit better here, but they struggle with a heavy chassis and under powered electronics (except that 4s outcast, that things is nuts!)... So pretty much the same cost for either you invest in. I just wish they would stop upgrading cheap plastic manufacturer parts and invest in some solid changes for their customers. Now they have some serious competition nipping at their heals and we're starting to see them trying a little, but mostly just rebadging and not the important parts for a better product like other companies are... They drive fantastically, they're very durable & the bodies aren't as weak as some say. Mines around 8 months old, I've used it often, I've driven it hard, in all weather, on all surfaces & apart from needing the pillow ball hubs/knuckles/blocks? replaced due to being worn & a couple of small cracks in the body where the front wheel arches meet the body, it's still all original.!!! Amazingly enough I'M STILL ON THE ORIGINAL TYRES.!!! That's unheard of unless it's a crawler or an MT, I usually go through a set of tyres within a week or two, especially on road style tyres... I'm EXTREMELY impressed with them, so much so I've started using them on my other 1/8, 6S cars & they're doing a great job too.!! Differential kit, center (complete) (aluminum carrier) Replace your Traxxas vehicle’s stock slipper clutch with this Pro-Built high-performance center differential. The center differential absorbs driveline shocks to improve durability and distributes power to all four wheels for mind-bending acceleration. The finned aluminum housing helps dissipate heat with a tough 54-tooth, 32-pitch steel spur gear for maximum durability. The sealed differential comes completely assembled and pre-loaded with thick 1 million weight silicone oil to help prevent unloading and ballooning of the front tires. Center differential requires 32-pitch pinion gear. Looks like you can get rid of the slipper clutch too!

Might be useful to get hold of a FLIR set up for reporting on heat issues, they can be quite pricey but you might be able to pick up a second hand Cat or Blackview phone that has IR for a decent price (Probably other work phone makes that have models with infra red but those the two makes I've had phones from so i know they work)

I bought a Velenion in 2008 that I have in my Heavy Metal Sand Viper, and it doesn't get too hot. Then again, I only have a 19 tooth on the stock spur.

Absolutely love mine but i bought it as a roller stuffed hobbywing esc and a 3670 2750kv motor on 4s absolutely RIPS no heat issues and surprisingly the diffs are holding up fine but it does struggle to put the power down on those tires love it thou handles so well

I upgraded my infraction to 8s and I put my infractions stock 6s setup in mine. LoL, I Geared it 24/50 on 32P gears...the thing is mental.

Coolest running rc car Ive got is a slash 2wd with a kyosho brushless sytem from their 1:9 buggy. 2400kv. Its like a 42mm motorn I bröove. I run it on 2s and the top speed is quite low. 3s works greeat too. Low kv, low RPM and a large motor is a good starting ground for low temps.

I got the Rustler Ultimate and that didn't come with fans, even for being the ultimate edition.. anyway I had the same heat issue. But when I installed a fan on the ESC and another fan on the motor with heat sync, I ran it endlessly on high speeds and motor stayed just warm for touch.

the more you crank up the stability management, the more the car works to keep itself straight, so the slower you'll go top-end. take all the slop out of the steering you can, turn the stability off, keep your right hand steady. you'll hit 60. i did. it's a pain and it's rare, but it can happen.

man i really like this one!! im so glad you can look around it being a traxxas and give credit where credit is due!!!

The vxl motor can handle really high temps. But a good heat sink an fan setup is needed for 3s wide open fun. The esc will also need a fan on it for 3s bashing. Besides that its a great system for what it is.

I also recently found the VXL3S is not really a 3s capable system in my Slash 4x4. I was running it around our new local dirt track, and it cut power after about 4 laps. Stock gearing and no way it could make it through a race. 😒 Have yet to see if it did permanent damage.
@bllarz36214 ай бұрын
Well, it can go 60 out of the box but it overheats within 5 minutes, had to swap my 19t gear for a 15t just to drive it for more then 10 min.

i have the same plastic gear servo in my slash when i bought it 6 years ago never had a problem so I never thought about a new one

I totally get where your coming from on this car even the body slows it down I swapped to hoons a center diff and added fans for esc and motor it's it probably the most fun and easy car to drive

I've learned more lessons the hard way because of Traxxas electronics than I care to admit.

Very tempted with a T shirt, good video dude, totally agree about the huge TX its high time for a change, im sort of looking for a nice rally car but wont be this one

I think the Traxxas fan is only for the ESC, and it doesn't work too well. Going to have to get an aftermarket fan for it. I have the 4wd Rustler, and running it on 3s gets it sizzling hot on stock gearing.

I dont think its a bad car just a bit expensive. Well, a lot expensive. I bought one when they first came out again .... not sure why though. LOL Did get 60 MPH out of it with the optional gears. Did a whole lot of races of it VS the CEN Puma M and they are pretty close. The Snap-On versions body was SO much nicer. Wish they would have given it that body for the price.

Hi Tomley! I understand that after replacing the pinion, something got damaged, or am I wrong?

mine had a castle 3800 and a 17t with a robisnon spur and the bigger motor plate(for the bigger bearing), it also handled really nice with the soft sway bars in back and medium in front

I have the original rally in the Snap On edition. The slipper is an odd design and not the same as the slash. Mine is now a 6s street speed machine. Not much is original anymore. One of my few non crawler cars

I run a good esc and twin motor fans on mine. I basically run a slash ultimate converted into a sort of back slash and do very well in open 1/10 classes. I run 2s though because thats our limit for 1/10 classes but I do run the high speed gearing and the esc and motor must have cooling or it will thermal. As far as the slipper clutch goes on the 3s vxl line I always go all the way tight, and 1/4 turn back off.

It’s crazy how long it takes TRAXXAS to get that far but the funny part is that’s how we feel trying to get bang good parts…

On all my VXL and Ultimate Traxxas cars I buy the very inexpensive ESC fan and the motor heat sync. And I can literally drive them for hours, across multiple battery packs across multiple years (3 so far) without issue. Haven’t lost a motor yet.
