I'm not surprised he wrote it so fast. It's Incredible Hulk # 162, which also introduced Wolverine in his yellow/blue uniform PLUS whiskers on the mask. It is in places identical. The biggest change? No Hulk (b/c of who licensed the Hulk). Beast is inserted into that role. Add some mutanty goodness as the creation of Wendigo (Cartier had eaten human flesh in a crisis), which is then used to Hulk-out Beast, with shades of Beast from Age of Apocalypse. Add pointless romance, and there you go. And the other X-Men were unneeded, except maybe Xavier. And Wolverine (at that time his "book" or backstory not shared, Wolvie was not a human mutant, but a mutated wolverine, yeah, that was his starting place) is a Canadian government agent, later used to great effect in using X-Men to launch Alpha Flight. I think it could have ended up a good movie, with the final distancing itself from Hulk #162 somewhat. But it should be noted that a 2 week screen play that is that good is not the sign of genius, it is the sign of someone who knows his comic books, which is a different kind of genius.
@DIOBrando-ij2bp3 жыл бұрын
It’s a good idea. Although what it’s doing is taking the horror themed monster Beast from Amazing Adventures and combining it with that Hulk comic where Wolverine first appeared. At least elements of that Hulk comic anyways. Amazing Adventures is when Beast first gets his fur, and why he’s gray in Age of Apocalypse. The end however does remind me of the 1984 Australia movie Razorback, so I wonder how much more of that there is to the script. It’s kind of like an Australian Jaws, so I could see the Wendigo being done that way.

Would've changed at least 1 thing, like have Mystique have left the team and that she would be a villain for a later movie instead of her being a X-men leader. As being (anti-)villain fits better for her. The mega-Beast form reminded me of the weird big ape form that Beast had for awhile. They should've canceled Dark Phoenix instead. But same time the amount of Mr Sinister teasing that Fox X-men movies had.
@HemmasStudios_5 ай бұрын
The Mr. Sinister tease in Apocalypse they made work in a light way with Logan, and to a lesser extent New Mutants, BUT that specific tease that introduced Essex Corps was meant to tie into *Gambit*, which in early drafts took place a year after Apocalypse.

I would never say anything bad about Hugh but I believe that he’s done enough and I want to be able to see what a new actor could bring to the role! I also like the setting of the story and how they take the X-men into new territory. This project certainly had some amazing potential! Great report!

HOLY COW. _This_ film was a *THOUSAND* times better than both _X-men: Apocalypse_ AND _Dark Phoenix._ Fox would have had a *DEFINITE* home run had they made this. It's almost saddening, seeing the films these studios passed on. Then when you think about the films the DID choose to greenlight, and the failures/disappointments they ultimately turned out to be, you have to wonder why studios continue making decisions based on what they "think" audiences will watch, (big budget cgi-fests) versus smaller, more intimate/indie-esque films with smaller stories. This film would have only required a FRACTION of the budget the _Dark Phoenix_ and _Apocalypse_ films used and would have actually made them money in the long run...plus it would have gone a long way in re-igniting viewer interest in the X-Men franchise. I especially love the fact that they didn't spam the film with the Wolverine character, (which sadly Fox loved to do to their own detriment). Here, Wolverine was used _sparingly,_ and ONLY towards the end of the film. It was nice that this film focused on Beast alone. We never really got his full thoughts on how he felt about his experiments failing, how he was really coping. He didn't just fail; he actually _FURTHER MUTATED_ both himself as well as others. Actually I am angry at him that he sent a virtually untested vial to someone, knowing what it did to HIM. He honestly got off easy at the end, probably because Professor Xavier is a kind hearted, forgiving soul.
