James Robbins heads to the River Trent at Rolleston near Newark, a stretch of water run by Nottingham Piscatorials. At this time of year when the river is full of smaller fish, switching to hemp and tares is a devastating method to find the better-sized roach. It's also a cost-effective bait, especially when purchased in bulk. James is pole fishing with our Cadence CP2000 Pole, he shows you all the tips and tactics you need for a successful day fishing with this often overlooked but devastating bait.

Hi well what a great video. This is one of my favourite ways of catching roach. Isn’t it funny two or three of the best baits for Roach seem to be bread punch,and hemp and tares and happily makes for a cheap day’s fishing. Some great explanations from James combining with Ian’s superb camera work keeps this team at the top. Kindest regards Bill

At it again with yet another faultless production, great venue and a master at work with that superb pole and of course it goes without saying the master himself behind the cameras with some brilliant footage. It’s been said by quite a few but these videos are without doubt the very best on KZbin

Excellent video James. Cadence have set a very high bar with regards to qaulity and content. Chappy's camera work as usual is beyond compare. I tend to watch every Cadence film I find because the information in them is incredible and of course there is your narrative which is always great. Tight lines.

What was the optimum depth on the 1.25 grm rig please, I am finding I only seem to catch from 2 inches off anywhere upto 1 ft off being best and i seem to have to go well down the peg In only 12ft of water.
@cadencefishinguk
@cadencefishinguk 5 жыл бұрын
stephen brand Hi Stephen, I caught with that rig from dead depth to about 2ft of the bottom. No set rules really the fish where moving up and down in the water. Anything any shallower was hammered by smaller roach, dace and even bleak!

As for the big perch you caught, personally I would never have broken the hooklength on purpose. With today's modern stainless steel hooks, the poor perch will meet with great difficulties in getting rid of the hook. Even if only the roach it swallowed was hooked, the hook remains a sharp object that could cause intestinal disorders for the perch. For the rest, great video, very interesting because tare fishing is not widely known in Holland. One other remark: when will England finally ban coloured maggots? They are not natural and some dyes (especially bronzes and reds) are known to be poisonous and are considered carcinogenic. The day they were banned in Holland, we continued to catch the same amount of fish on white, oncoloured maggots. With Brexit on hands, following Euopean laws in this respect, will be another utopian dream. Still, tight lines from Holland! Ton Uittenbogaart.
@cadencefishinguk
@cadencefishinguk 5 жыл бұрын
With all due respect Tom, no instruments as you described were available. We believe the perch had swallowed the roach too far down to start messing about anyway at the risk of further damage. Maggot here in UK are fed the dye internally. Not on the skin. All the best.
@teunisuittenbogaart1053
@teunisuittenbogaart1053 5 жыл бұрын
Just for your information: red maggots over here were dyed, using Sudan Red coloured meat offalls, the same dye that is used for certain kinds of diesel oil. This dye is poisonous, but it was the only dye that worked. Other products, like food colourings dit not work properly. Since the Dutch Anglers Association introduced the ban on the use of red maggots, anglers have not caught less fish. On heavily fished venues, like harbours and canals, where pearch and eel, even roach had turned red, because of eating dyed maggots, things have turned to normal. When I go pleasure fishing, I don't use a keepnet; I just count the fish I catch and then return them to the water. In this respect I observe that in Belgium, on various venues, especially canals with heavy commercial boat traffic, like the Albert Canal, keepnets are no longer allowed by law. Only during official matches, keepnets can still be used. Tight Lines Ton Uittenbogaart

Hi Ton, regarding the perch I really had no choice with removing the roach and hook. It had swallowed the roach down into its stomach and I think trying to remove it would have really damaged the perch. The tail of the roach was only just visible in the perches mouth! I was using a small size 20 fine wire hook at the time and I really don’t think it will cause a problem. We always care about the fish we catch and release and really couldn’t have done any more. Cheers James
