Eerste keer dat ik de Nederlandse versie volledig zie. Ben opgegroeid met de Nederlandse castalbum.. maar was 1 toen de musical hier speelde. 😭

For some reason The Main Theme song seems exactly as the one of the Highlights CD.. I wonder if this part was pre-recorded and used for the CD and lipsynced live every time. I listened to that album for many years and I could tell no difference.

Michael Crawford has confirmed that the main theme is usually not performed live. This has to do with the Phantom and Christine walking backstage during the first two verses (the people you see on stage are doubles). Also, singing that high E at the end of the song multiple times per week is quite a strain on the voice and apparently the only person who was comfortable with that was Sarah Brightman. The only parts that are live here is part of the orchestra, the chorus at 32:25 and the Phantom saying “Sing for me”.
