Lol.....no matter how you slice it, the Hellcat is a beast. But downforce for the ZL1, the design which makes it a great all around track car hurts it in situations like this. On the street I don't think this will be faster than a Hellcat. But here is the thing as I always say, if you can afford to drive ANY of these cars, its a privilege very few can enjoy. No losers no matter which car you choose.

people keep complaining auto vs manual but if it were same gearboxes and zl1 wins do hellcat people get to complain about the weight difference? Mopar made 70 more whp but that doesn't equate to a 600lb weight difference. stop crying because in real world you DON'T get to choose what the other guy is running period.

What's the point of having an Auto Hellcat vs a Manual ZL1? You know what's going to happen. So is it just for views?

If we had a manual Hellcat we would have run it instead of the auto. In the real world and on the street you don't get to pick the transmission of your adversary. Thus, we felt like this was a relevant test. The new ZL1 Camaro auto should be as fast as they Hellcat auto - maybe faster? We will find out when the 10-speed ZL1 comes out in a few months.

I'm not going to give ZL1 a pass on this one, although it is a manual. Being that Hellcats are in their 3rd yr of production. Which means they had 3 yrs to prepare plus the 1 or 2 yrs before the Hellcat was put into production. That's a total of 5 years. The '03, '04 Cobras only came in manual & when they where first release. They kicked everybody ass including Viper. So no they don't get a pass for being a manual. Especially with today's technology...

If the Camaro ZL1was an automatic, it would probably be a tie or a closer race. A car with an automatic would win over the manual anyway because there is no driver intervention on the gears. The Dodge Challenger Hellcat would still win, probably with a half car length lead. It is going to be interesting when Ford introduce the new GT500 Mustang. I heard that it is going to have around 700 to 740 horsepower.

Hellcat is meant to be fast in a straight line, that's why it's an automatic (faster acceleration) and The Camaro is meant to conquer track racing, that's why it has a manual (better control in speed variations) both are amazing cars, and we hope we owned one of them. tthe end
