Excellent video. I never knew getting into/out of a hammock could be so easy! I am definitely going to put this on my wish list for my bug out bag. The rain fly, the mosquito net, and the easy access are all essentials for me and this one seems perfect.

For use just on the hammock, you will not need anything more than what comes with the hammock...however, I always have an extra tarp with me whenever I go out for any number of uses maybe event to setup a larger camp cover. Two of our Nature Reliance School instructors have the zip model and they love them and have absolutely no trouble with them. Yes you can sit in the velcro model, I often lay in mine without getting inside and it does not damage the netting. Great questions!! - Craig

I have never experienced any issues with bugs. I avoided these hammocks for ever because I thought the velcro opening on the bottom would never work. After using mine for several years now, I can say with confidence that I do not think you would have any issues with bugs...the craftsmanship and ingenuity of this bottom opening hammock surprises me how well it works each time I use it...:) - Craig

Good review, I am a hammock camper myself. Came to them just by browsing eBay one day. LOVE it, so much better on the back and knees, one does not wake up stiff and sore. I use the BUGLIT for my hammock ridge line, and when Im reading a paperback book, I can just put the page Im reading open and place the ridgeline in it to hold my place. Thanks for the video

My son and I use the velcro opening and have only had one small issue where we came out of the hammock while we were in it. Three of the other instructors with Nature Reliance School have the zippered openings. They love theirs too. I am like you in thinking that the velcro is less apt to have a problem compared to the zippers. I would go with the velcro..

The rain fly - they have larger models than the stock one that comes with the hammock. Any need to upgrade? I realize larger fly would give more coverage and area to cook under maybe, but is it worth it and necessary or does the standard one do a good job? Secondly, their new 'zip' model is the new rage... have you compared them at all? Can you sit in the velcro model as a 'seat' or swing and just relax or will that damage the netting? Good vid.

Hey guys. I love the videos and the product reviews. They are very informative and make choosing certain items easier for me. When are you guys gonna do a survival firearms review? I'm currently swinging a Remington 700 sps but it's overly heavy and I'm not sure that I would classify it as a survival gun. Please give some of your thoughts on this matter.

How well does the bottom entry seal up from small bugs? I know the zip version buttons up tight, but I've always liked the bottom entry method. We have hordes of mosquitoes and clouds of nasty black flies and they'll find a gap if there is one. So, that's the nature of my question.

Are this hammock good for big guys? I am 6,7 330 pounds do you think that this hammock can hold somebody of my size for a long time. an what I mean by that is can I use it more than 2 or 3 times then it breaks on me. I am getting tired of buying stuff that says oh yes it will last a life time but after using it for 3 to 4 times it busts on me. ty. looking forward for your feed back.

What is that clip you are using to attach the rain fly? Looks like you bypassed the clip that comes with the hammock. Did you also add a clip of some kind to attach the rain fly tie down to the same bungee cord that pulls the side of the hammock out?

the problem is the small standard tarp with not enough gui outs... it wont do u any good in windy conditions with rain... the plasticbiners on the end broke as well. i recommend getting a BIGGER tarp if u plan to use it in the rain.
@OmegaGear
@OmegaGear 9 жыл бұрын
I have used this tarp dozens of times and many, many times in the rain, I have gotten wet only one time and it was due to me not setting it up right. That was in heavy rain and 10-20 mph winds. I have slept in it in worse conditions and not gotten wet. - Craig
@protoyz7405
@protoyz7405 9 жыл бұрын
used it last weekend on the mountains here... the plasticbiner/-hook broke on both sides and the tarp became a kite for most of the night. if it was raining i would have been in some serious trouble. fortunately it was only wet mist. the part near the suspension needs another guy out point to keep it down in high winds. just my observation at 6500 feet elevation...
@OmegaGear

pro Toyz Interesting, thanks for sharing. I have used mine in rough conditions as stated with no problems after several years now..this really surprises me.
@protoyz7405
@protoyz7405 9 жыл бұрын
i would trust this thing(hennessy explorer) in normal rain but the wind from a ridgeline will make short work of the tarp especially if it will come from an angle of roughly 45°. and i didnt have the luxury of campsite selection in this guided tour. therefore i ordered a hyperlite mountaingear flat tarp(8'x10') to go along with the hammock. i will use the hammock this weekend on a 4 days climb but i will modify it with a seperate ridgeline. maybe this is enough to take care of the problem.
@OmegaGear
@OmegaGear 9 жыл бұрын
pro Toyz You need to do what works for you my friend. As I said before, I have used mine many, many times in very rough conditions and only gotten wet one time...so this is a surprise to me that you had such trouble. Glad you get out often!

Hey I just stumbled on this video after looking at the official hammock setup. Very good video, quite informative of the product. I used to live in FL and considered getting one, but now that I'm in Oregon I am defiantly getting one as we have allot more trees that are viable for tying off too. How well does it fit sleeping bags? and how easy is it to get into one while in the hammock?
@OmegaGear
@OmegaGear 9 жыл бұрын
Robert - Patrick O'Neill I've used mine with and without a bag. No problems either way. Getting into the bag takes practice, but once you find what tricks work for you, it's no big deal. I would suggest setting it up once to practice before going on a trip. This will allow you to climb in and out in daylight and get a feel for the arrangement of things you may want to store with you inside....like a flashlight, water bottle, or book.

You think the Hennessy hammock is better or the ENO hammock? I bought an ENO but depending on quality would be willing to return it for a Hennessy. Please let me know.
@OmegaGear
@OmegaGear 9 жыл бұрын
Beau Green I personally think so, however it might not be the same for you. I have found the Hennessy to be more comfortable simply because I like to sleep on my side. I cannot seem to do that in an ENO but can do that easily in a Hennessy. Plus the tarp, and bug protector come standard with the Hennessy..Since I sleep in a hammock year round I need both of those to keep off the elements - Craig

I'm 6'1" and about 215lbs. Will I be comfortable with the smallest ultralite version? I don't want to get one and regret not getting the larger one, but ultralite is my goal.. From what I've seen, I'm just a touch over the recommendation (6' 200lbs) but I'm guessing I'm close enough that it might be ok. Again - will I be COMFORTABLE, ie, stretch out my legs completely be fairly flat etc? Would really appreciate it someone who knows what they are talking about could advise me. Cheers.

Hmmm. Here is what I think...Do you like mummy sleeping bags? If so you will probably be OK in the ultralight version, because at your size you are going to be pretty compacted in there, particuarly at the toe and head...if you don't like a mummy bag...I would go with the bigger one...- Craig
