Hammock Camping - Hennessy Hammock Setup & Review
Hello I'm Paul
Welcome to my channel
In this video I setup and review the Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Hammock. This is the hammock I use when hammock camping when I'm out practicing Bushcraft in the woods or out wild camping. This video will hopefully be useful to anyone thinking of buying a hammock or want to learn how to hammock camp.
The Hennessy hammock is very well made and the asymetrical lay ensures a comfortable night's sleep. The hennessy explorer asym zip hammock is the larger brother of the hennessy expedition asym zip hammock
Below it the link to the Hennessy webite for details and specifactions of the hammock.
hennessyhammock.com/products/...
I've also listed the website for DD Frontline hammock which I also mention in the video

I found your channel and started watching vids and hit the sub button. I have had this same hammock for the last two seasons. Great hammock! I use the under quilt. I struggled to get the right setup as far as how tight to set it up. Now that I know what I like, it is a great nights sleep for me.

Thanks for watching and for the sub....I agree it's a great hammock. I prefer to use the exped mat now instead of the underquilt. Each to their own I suppose...ATB Paul

I use pretty much the same setup and agree that it is great hammock. I also agree that the small tarp is a little too small. I use the Hennessy Hex Fly for weather protection. I use the same method with the carabiner and rings. They work nice :) Thanks for sharing the video - Martin

Great minds think alike, Martin :). The rings make adjustment very easy. The Hennessy tarp does a good job at protecting the hammock but it doesn't cover much else. I like a little more room under my tarp to cook, work and keep my gear stored. The DD 3x3 tarp does this well. Thank you for watching. Paul.

Love this Hammock Mr Messner. I still have the DD Frontline which I find comfortable once I am settled. But as with all hammocks you have the fun of getting in and settled down first!! Also bought a Dura II bag with a front zip which makes the process so much more dignified!!! The only thing I find with Hammock camping is it takes a few mins to get over the sea sick swing!!! Great video mate...

Found your channel while researching the Hennessy Hammock. One thing.. in wet conditions I would mount the tarp before sliding off the snakeskins. And when breaking camp, slide on snakeskins before removing the tarp. That aside, This video got me one step closer to purchase.. damnit 😁

+Ola Andersson Hi. Thank you for watching the video. Glad you enjoyed it. If it's raining I always put the tarp up first. I don't often use the hennessy fly now though as it is a little small. I would recommend choosing the larger tarp they supply. I use a 3x3m tarp with diagonal setup most of the time now, as seen on my other videos. I highly recommend the hammock though. Extremely well made and very comfortable. All the best. Paul

Philip Nicolson Glad you enjoyed the video. The travel hammock is a very good piece of kit. will you be using an underquilt or a pad to insulate you from underneath? ATB Paul

The key for a flat/flatter lay is a ridge line strong enough to hold your weight, dyneema is perfect for this. Henge hammocks sell adjustable ridge lines to find the best length for anyone's preference, and being the same length each erection the sag/flat lay is consistent too. I have the DD superlight range and havent tried the mozzy net yet but it's cool to be completely removable. I assume the frontline doesn't work with a saggg hammock as intended and I imagine it's annoying with such things as the rods to hold it up. I can't fathom how Hennessy do the all in one pack system, I'd love to incorporate it into the DD superlight hammock/tarp

good video i have the same Hammock and my set up has rings and tree huggers at both ends, that way it is easier to move the hammock to the position you want between the trees. I also have the larger Hexfly as i found the one that came with it a bit small, if you put a roll mat in-side have a open sleeping bag under you and a cheep duvet over me then you can sleep diagnally and on your side i know thats bulky so i only do that for my week camps
@PaulMessner
@PaulMessner 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I have an exped synmat 7 that I sometimes use instead of a roll mat. It's really warm but has a tendency to wander off in the night :). I have to have it only inflated about 50% but find this still offers great insulation from underneath. I just need to find a way to keep it secure in the hammock. ATB Paul

Hi Paul, you look very young in this video. I'm sure Reggie might struggle in a hammock. I'm thinking about buying one of these, perhaps you should do an updated review, now you're a full time professional KZbin'er. Great video mate, happy camping 👍

excellent hammock. I would definitely switch out the rope for whoopie slings and avoid the 2 rings. they would often slip. so true huggers, crab attached to a marlin spike hitch then directly on to the whoopies. I did the mod myself (very successfully) and I am really not the practical type.

That was the plan but in the end i upgraded to the chameleon due to the reduction in weight. The hennessey is still a great hammock though

a lot money them hennessy hammocks, I see to ground dwell all the time but after breaking my back have gone over to hammocks now, after much looking i use the tenth wonder super xl hammock which is 3mx 1.8m, use with a structural ridge line and I can lay dead flat on the diagonal, I have a 4mx4m tw tarp to give me plenty of room for admin/cooking etc, really like your videos, cheers craig

Thanks for the comment Craig. The Hennessey is a bit on the expensive side but it's good quality and comfortable. I've heard good things about the tenth wonder. Glad you like it. WOW..4 x 4 tarp...I bet that takes up some space in the pack. I find the 3 x 3 is the perfect size for me. ATB Paul

whats the reason for the extra caribinear on the tarp? it looks like it's meant to just clip right on to the one on the hammock? I just ordered one but went with the larger tarp that says needs to be tied to the tree, kind of regretting going for that one when I see how easy this one is!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Do you have a system for ensuring that the asymmetrical shape of the tarp is easily set up the right way to match the shape of the hammock? Especially in the dark.

I use a couple of rings to act as rain break. You can also add some string on a prussik knot to act as a rain break. I have a video on this. Also check out Shug....He makes some brilliant hammock videos. Thanks for watching. ATB Paul

Suspension looks less than 30° which can damage the hammock if you didn't have a structural ridgeline.
