Norah Jones performing "She"( by Gram Parsons and Chris Ethridge), live at Return to Sin City - A Tribute To Gram Parsons. Joshua Tree, CA July 9th 2004.
she, she came from the land of the cotton
land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
and she, she worked and she slaved so hard
a big old field was her back yard in the delta sun
ooh, but she sure could sing
ooh, she sure could sing
then he looked down and he took a little pity
the whole town swore he decided he'd help her some
but he didn't mind if she wasn't very pretty
for deep inside his heart he knew she was the only one
ooh, but she sure could sing
yeah, she sure could sing
she had faith, she had believing
she led all the people together in singing
and she prayed every night to the lord up above
singing hallelujah, ooh hallelujah
they use to walk singing songs by the river
even when she knew for sure she had to go away
and she never knew what her life had to give her
and never had to worry about it for one single day
ooh my but she sure could sing
ooh, she sure could sing
she had faith, she had believing
led all the people together in singing
and she prayed every night to the lord up above
singing hallelujah, ooh hallelujah
she, she came from the land of the cotton
land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
and she, she worked and she slaved so hard
a big old field was her back yard in the delta sun
ooh, but she sure could sing
my, my, my she sure could sing
ooh, yeah she sure could sing
ooh, she sure could sing

While everyone is singing praises to Norah..........and rightfully so, let's not forget the song itself. Gram Parsons was one of the most influential artists in American music. And this is one of his most beautiful works. He would be proud of this version.

Well, Norah is clearly the most beautiful woman to ever walk the face of this planet. She also has the greatest voice and control of notes. She also has spectacular piano chops, which you nevet hear her get much credit for. The bottom line ia that anyone this great at something in life, and this beautiful, should be able to do what ever in the hell they want to do. The good news is that Norah appears to be doing exactly that, just she has since day one. Can't wait to see you in Brooklyn in May, Norah! Love you!

Norah's dad would be even more proud of her with how her career and life is going....:her talent definitely speaks well of what she inherited from her dad Ravi Shankar. Love her and have for years.
@Requiemslove
@Requiemslove Ай бұрын
Her talent has literally nothing to do with him. It was nurtured and nourished by her mother, Sue Jones, who has always and likely will always be there for her. Norah was estranged from her father [it's up to her if she ever saw him really as "dad"] until she was 18 years old [from when she was 3] and didn't properly reconnect with her [IMO less famous] father until she was in her mid 20's. By that point she'd already sold more albums and won more awards in 3 or 4 years, than he did in half a lifetime in music. It's insulting and disrespectful frankly to BOTH for anyone to continuously prattle on and say "but she got it from him". She didn't. She got it from inside her, and was helped to realise it by the continuous support of her mother, as well as her own determination. Of that her father Ravi Shanker was undoubtedly proud about. Her talent comes from her mothers side of the "tree" as much as his, however, and lets be honest, all that anyone can truthfully say that she may have picked up [from him] is a greater alacrity to learn. [She takes to music better than many, probably] She got that voice from her mothers side, however, as Sue Jones is said to have quite the voice herself. [Although Sue Jones has dedicated her life to being a concert promoter, and not an active musician]

@Requiemslove
@Requiemslove 15 күн бұрын
@@johnmefford2899 I never said "none" of her talent came from him, I said it had nothing to DO with him. There's a difference. I completely agree with the gist of what you say, and there's a kernel of truth in that which I'm not denying. But it's coming from a misguided place. Norah Jones was estranged from her father until she was 18 years old, and didn't properly reconnect with her Indian side until she was mid 20's. The potential of Norah's talent became manifest destiny entirely because of her mum and Norah's own dedication. It was her mum who paid for and encouraged Jones in her lessons, who nurtured her love of music, and it was Norah who put the effort in to making the best of what she had within her, and she got her VOICE from her mothers side. [Sue Jones can also sing from what I've heard] From her father she got a "part" of the potential that she had within her from the get go, but having that part and making use out of it are entirely different things. HE didn't help Norah to become a musician, his only real involvement was during Norah's Not too late album tour [when she had already sold what, 30 million records?] when he attempted to tutor Norah in the Sitar. And that didn't really work out, maybe he was too old, maybe she just wasn't ready, or maybe, just maybe, he would have had more luck at that if he'd been around more for his most TALENTED progeny? That last part was a dig at him and one I feel that he obviously would have deserved.

My Dad introduced me to Gram Parsons when I was about five or six, I'm now eighteen, and I've never tired of him, I believe it is impossible to! Most of the time covers of songs do not even come close to the superiority of the original, and while this is a completely different version of She, it gives me shivers down my spine just like the original.
