45-70 isn't usually a tight-grouping round... unless you shoot it from a Henry barrel, apparently. I also got crazy small groups from my Henry All-Weather 45-70.

TWANGnBANG Most the groups I have seen shot from 1886 were an 1 1/4” or less five shot groups Iron sights at 100 yards, the 45-70 is just a really fun round to shoot mostly because it has very little recoil and makes a really big hole, although I prefer the 50-110 WCF seems to be a lot more accurate,

@@Leverguns50 .45-70 has "very little recoil"? Ive heard a lot of fuss about the opposite but have never shot one myself. Now I'm curious. Id love one just because...no reason, not even a hunter, but just because! But I think I may be better served with a 44Mag or .30-30 or something.

In this age of black rifles, semi-auto actions and high capacity firearms (which I like them all), I really enjoy shooting a big bore lever action, or even a single shot break-down rifle, using iron sights. It's a very nostalgic kind of fun. It's just cool. And that color case-hardened finish you find on the Henrys, H&Rs and other similar brands is beautiful, as well as easy to maintain. I really enjoyed this video; thanks.

If you load the tube with the action open, replace tube rod and then drop one in the chamber you get your " plus one" whilst never having yourself in front of the barrel with a round in it. Ive been doing it for a year and no drama's.👍 Your H010 steel also takes 5 in the tube not 4, hasn't had any ill affects so far.

Mrgunsngear -- Nice review! I've been a lever action lover since I first shot my fathers 30-30 Winchester "many" years ago. Henry Repeating Arms have vastly improved the lever action design to accommodate modern large caliber performance that rivals many other designs. Bolt action lockup is key to high accuracy in the field, and Henry Rifles have nailed it IMHO. A Henry Long Ranger in .308 "AND" .45-70 are on my purchase list this year. ;) I'm also a big fan of the .44 Mag and the .444 Marlin calibers. I recently purchased a Winchester 94 AE Trapper carbine in .44 Mag and love it for a good mid sized deer gun in the thick wooded brush of Ohio, but I'd personally LOVE to see a Henry Long Ranger lever action in .444 Marlin. It'd be a great 100+ yard brush buster for those long shots across the river valley or through the woods across a large meadow. That said, I'm also getting a Henry "Mare's Leg Lever Action Pistol" in .44 Magnum just for the fun of it... just because I can! It wouldn't and couldn't replace my Redhawk, but it'd sure be a fun gun to have! Honestly I hadn't looked to see if you've reviewed one yet, but it'd be nice if you haven't already. Thanks for a down to earth review without all the horn blowing huff and fluff "soooo" many others waist our precious time with. Accuracy tests are what brought me to your reviews. Thank you for that, as well as your to-the-point comments I tend to agree with here. VERY impressive lever guns indeed. Keep up the great work brother! ;)

Great video love that you used the longer 22" barrel was thinking about the Marlin CB with the 26" or the Henry single 45-70 but after this video will be thinking about that rifle love the octagon barrel and the extra weight of the Henry 8.10 vs 7 of the Marlin CB but still like the 26" barrel of the CB would be nice And the 6.8 lb of the single might be a bit light. I do shoot a 12 gauge and do not find the recoil bad at all . in fact use to shoot a single shot 12 3" and never even though about recoil but some people said it kicked like a mule, it must be what you are use to. I was watching videos with people complaining about the recoil of the .45 70 so head me thinking of wanting a 444 marlin but if it only recoils like a 12 gauge i am not going to worry abut it.

I would think this rifle chambered in .45-70 Springfield would appeal to the hunter of not only deer, but likewise elk, moose, caribou, buffalo (bison), and bear. And certainly why not? For properly placed shots kept under 200 yards, especially in the woods or timber, it should be ideal for the task, whether in the United States (including Alaska) and Canada. Loaded with .45-70 loads of 300, 405, and 500 grains respectively, this rifle would surely be ideal for the purpose of providing fresh meat. A competent skilled hunter or outdoorsman and this rifle would be made for each other indeed. Jim Farmer Merrill, Oregon (Klamath County)

The Brass Lever Action 45-70 is 1lb heavier than the Steel Lever Action so you're right; much less recoil. But wouldn't a good muzzle brake make the Steel Lever a sweet shooter that's also lighter-weight and more compact? A Grizzly Gunworks would tame this sucker. Just trying to weight options for my next toy.

Seems like a great gun, but it annoys me that so many Henry’s don’t run the tube mag the full length of the barrel. Even the ones that do seem to hold a round or two less than their Marlin or Henry counterparts. Shame, because they seem like fine rifles, but that low capacity is a significant negative for me.

Hey, nice channel, enjoy your stuff. I've the H010 model and I've had some issues with different ammo and the cartridge carrier getting gouged up if the casings aren't well crimped, FYI. I love this gun and shooting it, however the Henry rep I talked to had only a few select cartridges that they recommend using with these guns....I figure the carriers are identical in all their 45-70 actions and that their ammo recommendations might deflect this problem. Enjoy your weapon!
@bigriver32787 жыл бұрын
....I should add that Henry sent me a new carrier at no charge and I simply replaced during a cleaning. As I recall it was Hornady's Leverrevolution that I was feeding it and they do not recommend it. Kind of sucks because I had settled on that ammo's performance down range and higher velocity, but since have honed in on Federal's Bear Claw and reloads when I can do the crimp.

No sir. Big loop levers are not for speed shooting per-say as your comment would indicate. Smaller calibers, sure you can get away with shots as fast as you can move the lever just as The Rifleman did, and Henry rifles were record holders as well as game changers in that regard initially (maybe still are idk). Large calibers leave large goose eggs, or worse in the wrong, inexperienced, or arrogant showoff types hands. Big loop levers were designed for shooters and hunters in cold weather when gloves are a necessity, allowing speed and control when multiple shots were/are required. Imagine a big brown bear or grizzly coming at you in cold weather and you obviously have gloves on. That 1-2 seconds it takes to grab the lever or attempt to take your gloves off could be the difference between you surviving... or the bear! Just sayin'... ;)
