I love how Rickson's students are literally teaching shrimping details and its getting out there...just goes to show how BJJ grew so fast that some of the basics were lost.

I don't think it's that the basics were lost, it think it's that the details of the basics are lost over time. Every white belt is still taught how to shrimp, but over time the small details are so watered down that it begins to be thought as if some of the older techniques are no longer as efficient as the were once believed to be. Its like that communication exercise where everyone stands in a line and the first person whispers something into the ear of the person next to them. By the end of the line, the story had significantly changed or was completely different. The details Henry provides are closer to the beginning of the whisper than the details being provided by instructors that are further removed from people like Rickson or Pedro Sauer that they finer details of what make the techniques so effective have either been watered down or completely lost altogether. Henry Akins could teach an entire seminar on shrimping alone and black belts with 20 years on the mats would greatly increase their knowledge of a simple technique that they've been doing since white belt that they didn't see as much more than a warm up exercise at the beginning of each class.
