Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is a zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Its mission is conservation, research, recreation, and education. Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is nationally renowned for its leadership in animal conservation and research. Evolving from the public Riverview Park Zoo established in 1894, today the zoo includes several notable exhibits. "Kingdoms of the Night" is the world's largest nocturnal exhibit and indoor swamp; the Lied Jungle is one of the world's largest indoor rainforests, and the "Desert Dome" is one of the world's largest indoor deserts, as well as the largest glazed geodesic dome in the world. The zoo is Nebraska's top-paid attendance attraction and has welcomed more than 25 million visitors over the past 40 years.
Major exhibits
African Grasslands
After six years of planning and three years of construction, the 28-acre, $73 million African Grasslands exhibit opened to the public May 27, 2016, over the zoo's former eastern boundary area and Pachyderm Hill exhibits. The exhibit is the zoo's largest project to date, with over twenty five new buildings, in addition to multiple wildlife panoramas and a Kopje, and features giraffes, hoofstock, white rhinos, and many other native species including six African elephants in a 29,000-square feet exhibit that is the largest herd room in North America. There are a variety of new structures for guests, such as a hunting lodge-inspired Grill, the exploration-based Wildlife Management Headquarters, tents for overnight visits, and a Giraffe Encounter where guests may feed giraffes.
Butterfly and Insect Pavilion
The Berniece Grewcock Butterfly and Insect Pavilion opened in 2008. The Pavilion is a 14,000-square-foot (1,300 m2) total-immersion exhibit located between the Scott Aquarium and the Giraffe Complex. Viewed from the sky, the exhibit resembles a winged insect. The building features several different exhibits inside:
Butterfly Conservatory: The 2,450-square-foot (228 m2) area features 10-foot (3.0 m)-high glass sidewalls to allow the maximum amount of light inside the exhibit. Natural light, large trees, rocks, and water elements are all critical components needed to simulate a natural habitat and important to stimulate natural butterfly behaviors.
Insect Zoo: This 2,413-square-foot (224.2 m2) area has a 5-foot (1.5 m) high glass sidewall on top of a 7-foot (2.1 m) solid wall to allow more intensive exhibit work. Individual micro-habitats are home to ants, spiders, scorpions, walking sticks, mantids, centipedes, roaches, beetles and other creatures. In the center of this room, two bird exhibits house other exotic species such as tropical hummingbirds.
Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium
The Walter and Suzanne Scott Aquarium, a public aquarium, opened on April 1, 1995, at a cost of $16 million. The building has 71,000 sq ft (6,600 m2) and contains a total of 1,200,000 US gal (4,500,000 l; 1,000,000 imp gal) of water. The exhibit was first renovated in 2011, and opened again on April 5, 2012. It is one of the largest in-zoo aquariums in the world. It features displays of aquatic habitats from polar regions, temperate oceans, the flooded Amazon rainforest, and coral reefs. The 450,000 US gal (1,700,000 l; 370,000 imp gal) shark tank features a 70 ft (21 m) shark tunnel at the bottom of the 17 ft (5.2 m)-deep tank.

Hey Tom! Man, i feel like this Zoo just kept amazing me more and more! It seemed it just kept getting better by the habitat! This is an absolutely amazing Zoo! I think my favourites were the elephants (i`ll have a few elephant time stamps later), the rhinos, the insect house and the reptile area in part 1. Just, AMAZING!! Amazing habitats for the animals, and a great landscape! I know there are some people who say Zoos are cruel for animals and yes that is true for some zoos but there are far more great zoos out there than bad ones. You go to this zoo and you tell me if you still think that Zoos are cruel by the end of your visit. That`s what i thought. Now, for some timestamps, Tom: 0:59: This was very interesting to read Tom! I`ve always been interested in Folklore of different countries and legends about different creatures. 1:51: If it`s not zebra butts, it`s something else showing you the hind end eh Tom? Man, you just can`t catch a break, can you? 8:15: Just out of curiosity Tom: why is it surprising that they have lids and straws? Just curious. 8:56: Man, this little fella does not look very old! Each baby aids in conservation, awesome that the Zoo has 2 babies that you showed in the video, their existence helps conservation in ways they will never know. 9:24: WOAH!! This is an amazing indoor elephant habitat! I was in my room, alone while watching this and i muttered woah, i realised a few minutes later that my mouth was open in awe, i closed it LOL. 11:46: This individual is a male, only the males of this species have horns, and very impressive horns at that! 12:00: Can you spot all 9 giraffes in the photo, Tom? 14:10: It`s actually pronounced: KOPP-IE, thought i`d clarify, Tom. 14:38: Meercats are pretty darn cute eh Tom? 15:20: Such beautiful animals. 16:48: Having some food, and some water as well, butterflies generally get most if not all of their water from their food. 18:23: Look at all of that colour! Shame butterflies don`t have a longer lifespan, they`re such beautiful critters! 19:08: These guys are a common feeder insect in the reptile hobby, my bearded dragon loved them when he was a baby. 20:03: Good eye Tom! Such a beautiful beetle. I really loved the insect house as i`m very interested in inverts, i had a good chuckle at your grasshopper story as well, i had a similar incident when i was a little boy. Basically the exact same thing you described and guess what i had on me? You guessed it! Grasshoppers, i was about 6 and my mother was having a proper fit trying to get them off, she DOES NOT like bugs, needless to say. 20:14: These guys actually make good pets and are suggested to kids who want to start keeping inverts as they are very easy to care for and completely harmless! 20:22: That would actually be kind of scary, if one of these jumped at ya, i like bugs but no thanks, not on my face! 26:07: Dinner time! So cool how they have each species trained to go to a specific spot in the enclosure to receive their food. 28:00: This is called a sun starfish Tom! I`ve seen them on documentaries and stuff before. Though, i`m not sure what species of sun starfish as there are lots of different species. 30:24: Now THAT is a crab!! Look at this BEAST! Absolute UNIT of an animal!! 39:42: You are so right Tom, very interesting to look at. 42:27: Good eye Tom, he was well camouflaged! Fun fact: Eels are constantly opening and closing their mouths to circulate oxygen throughout their body, they would suffocate if they stopped doing this. 47:08: That`s an interesting name for a fish, old wife. I don`t really know if i want to find out how it got it`s common name LOL! 490: Good eye, Tom. 50:07: Good shot, Tom!! Normally, they are all curled up in a crevice, this guy is out in all his/her glory!! Magnificent animal! 53:20: Nice to see him out, absolutely magnificent creature. That does it for time stamps, this is an amazing property to say the least! Now Tom, i want to let you in on something, since i tell you a lot you know, beyond the channel. I have found out recently that a childhood friend of mine (i`ve known her since i was around 10 years old, i`m 17 now) Anna, likes me and would like to start a relationship in the coming years. And here`s the funny part: I`ve had a crush on her for about 2 years but never told her because i was too shy. When i told her this, she was surprised but happy, she said i hid it well. Since we both like each other, we`ve agreed to start a relationship sometime after high school, after we sort out our college studies and that. She has told me that none of her relationships have worked out, her heart always ended up being broken but she gave me a bunch of compliments and she said that she`s confident that when the time comes, she thinks we`ll hit it off and this will be different than her other boyfriends because of my personality, she says i`m... different. With any luck, when the time comes in a year or 2, we can start dating and if we`re really lucky, we could spend our lives together, which i would like because Anna is a really nice girl. She`s very pretty, really cares about people`s feelings, very sweet, good-natured and super nice, she`s also in my grade, she`s just a matter of months older than me, which is fine, i`m not a believer in that the man should always be older and stronger. Thought you`d like to know that in the coming years, when we`re both ready, i`ll probably have my first girlfriend. But for the moment, we`re just friends. I actually call her Bestie sometimes, an affectionate nickname i`ve given her for the fact that we`re best friends and she loves it, she giggles and smiles every time i use it, she has the most wonderful laugh and smile. She`s so much unlike one of my previous friends, who turned toxic towards me and others, i`ve stopped talking to her. Which was difficult, because i`ve known her since 2nd grade but she was making my mental health go downhill, it`s for the best. Let me know your thoughts Tom, and while we`re on this subject: Did you have a girlfriend around my age? Or have ever had one? Now, i`m curious LOL. See you next time Tom i hope you`re well and looking forward to your reply! Now, i`m off to watch my favourite Bigfoot movie: Hunting Grounds.
@TomsRoadTrippin
@TomsRoadTrippin 2 жыл бұрын
@Noah Roy Sorry for the late reply, I have to view your comments on my computer the zoo did keep getting better and better. I really enjoyed the multiple viewing areas, makes for great animal sightings. Zebra butts are going to be the downfall of society one day LOL Several zoo's I have been too, don't allow lids or straws on drink cups, in case someone throws them into an animal habitat it could harm the animals. Those baby elephants were adorable, pretty cool the zoo has two little ones. I always enjoy watching the meercats, usually you have one as the lookout so the others can do meercat stuff. Very cute animals indeed. the majority of the zoo animals know exactly where to go for checkups and food. Dailey repetition is the key here. That way they don't have to chase them down. That's great you met someone that compliments your personality. The old saying goes: There's someone for everyone. I really hope things work out well for you two in the long run. It's also a good thing you're not rushing into a relationship, get your schooling situated first. I have had girlfriends when I was younger, although they never lasted as long as I wanted. Nowadays work is my relationship, I don't have much free time to spend with anyone. But life is full of surprises, you never know when you might meet someone that clicks with you.

@@TomsRoadTrippin Yeah Tom, this Zoo was amazing, truly magnificent! Zebra butts just might be the downfall of society one day, yes Tom, you might be on to something LOL! Ah yes, that`s a good reason regarding the lids & straws. Elephants are some of my favourite animals, ever since i was a little boy. Meercats are very curious creatures, i watched a documentary on meercats once, their lifestyle and family links & bonds is very interesting and strong. Yeah Tom, Anna is a very nice girl, very pretty! And might i add: She thinks that i`m handsome so i`ve got that going for myself hehe. I don`t usually use the term: Meant for each other but i think that applies here with me & Anna, i think that we could have a good life ahead of us, but one step at a time. If you don`t mind me asking Tom, when was the last time you were in a relationship with a girl? You know Tom, reading that last part makes me a little sad, i feel kind of sorry for you man. I`ve always liked to think that everyone finds their special person at one point or another, and hopefully your turn is coming soon. In the future, if you like Tom, i can update you on me & Anna. But i`m a firm believer in that you`re never too old for anything. Hopefully there`s a woman out there just right for you Tom! Leave a reply if you have any thoughts Tom ;)!
