I haven't been to Henry Doorly but one thing I have noticed in nearly every zoo tour I've seen of the place is how small some of the exhibits are. They seem to tuck in tiny aviaries and enclosures everywhere. Some of the exhibits seem more focused on displaying the animals for effect, more so than the animals wefare. I didn't like that tapir exhibit one bit! That cave cage for a clouded leopard was terrible, I'm glad there's only an owl in there now. I've seen some other examples in the desert dome too.
@FromLAtoFUNland3 жыл бұрын
I think this exhibit will be on my list. I always liked these "houses". The only thing, it seemed to me that tapirs and hippos do not have enough land. Perhaps it will stand somewhere in the 14th place.

When I was 9 I waited several hours to see the Lied Jungle on opening day. It totally blew my mind. Since the Jungle was built the zoo has constructed several mega projects and completely transformed itself. There is very little from that era still remaining. Even though it is pushing 30, The Lied Jungle is still an amazing experience and my favorite zoo exhibit.

Thank you so much for still uploading during these times. Here in the UK we’re still locked down but I’m back to school next week, zoos don’t reopen until after Easter and your videos really do help me feel as though I’m seeing the animals for myself, and I don’t know how you do it but it’s wonderful. Thank you.

if you ever have the chance you have to come here! I grew up across the street and worked there for years! thus is so much more than a zoo! it's a paradise and they do so much in terms of education and rehabilitation! I hope things are going well for you 🙏

As an Omaha resident, I am inordinately proud of our zoo, at it is easily my second favorite place in the world after my own home. On a more comedic note, I think I vaguely remember getting pooped on by a bat on the lower level when I was much, much younger. On a final note, really looking forward to seeing more of it now that everything is opening back up.

6:32 In case you haven't already been told, this used to be where they had a Baird's Tapir. I hadn't visited the Lied Jungle recently enough to know that they had to switch it out for the time being, interesting news to me.

I've never been to the US but I have been to the world's largest indoor rainforest. The "Gondwanaland" in Leipzig, Germany. It was amazing and is probably my favourite exhibit that I've been to
@graphite27863 жыл бұрын
OMG yes! I haven't been to any USA zoos but my god, the German and Dutch zoos rock! The tropic exhibit at Emmen Wildlands has Asian elephants in it, I think it is four times the size of the lied jungle. I really love this channel though, and hopefully when the pandemic is under control, we can see some tours of the European zoos. I'd gladly donate to a Go fund me to send him off to document Leipzig, Zurich, Basle, Frankfurt etc. I reckon he'd do the best job! Plus he'd get to see animals like pangolin, pygmy anteater, yapok, coconut crabs, birds of paradise, giant armadillo, otter shrew, aye-aye, brown hyena and other amazing creatures that are rare or absent from the US zoos.
@oliverbrunninge3 жыл бұрын
@@graphite2786 Seems unlikely he would travel to Europe but I agree. I haven't been to any zoos in the Netherlands but what I have seen has been great
@graphite27863 жыл бұрын
@@oliverbrunninge Yes there are still many zoos in the USA that he hasn't covered, so they will of course have priority. But if this channel really takes off and starts making big dollars....who knows what could happen?

I remember when this first got built, you had to get a pass to get in set for a certain time frame. There is such a difference between then and now with all the tree’s plants, and animals being added and growing. it is a bit humid in there but I never seem to mind even on a hot day.
