Henry Kaiser was instrumental in America winning WW2. He reorganized Big Business, had machine factories retool themselves from making typewriters, cars, washing machines, etc to making airplanes, bullets, bombs. He made sure everyone was paid a fair wage, worked under the direction of FDR and was the mastermind behind America's sleeeping giant. In addition, he helped to build Hoover Dam, became a ship builder, and created Kaiser Permanente Health Plan. In my opinion, he is a forgotten hero.

Agree about Kaiser Permanente. I have them for my health insurance and they are the only insurer worth a damn out there. Granted, they aren't perfect (they do give new meaning to red tape!) but they don't give you trouble about paying for stuff you need. Plus I love their one stop shop formula and their being efficient.... I was once in their ER a couple years ago for a total of just under two hours. Talk about a miracle!

I lived with him on his Hawaii estate in 1965 and worked in 1966/7 at Kaiser Steel in West Australia...I was but a youngster and he was a good friend & respectful of my youth.

Henry gave thought to his workers, leading to health care and child support, and thereafter the founding of Kaiser Permanente, the biggest healthcare concern on the West Coast. Gratitude to Henry for helping winning the ear, and caring about people.

I love it when someone says "you didn't do that, you didn't build that!". Funny, nobody told that to Henry Kaiser, a drop out in school. Ya know...the chief guy behind several dam's, ship port/building and one of the best medical systems in the world. Yes, in fact he did. He wasn't the guy that solved a puzzle before he had it built, Oh sh*t, he was that guy!

Kaiser carriers were classed as CVEs. The sailors on board (my grandfather was one) knew them as Combustible, Vulnerable, Expendable. Cheaply built - they didn't even have proper ventilators because that would have been too expensive, and miserable to be in when the seas were rough, they nevertheless did amazing things.

Well said! Myself being a USS Midway guy and flew home 40 yr old helos with duct tape on the blades. Fuel in the scuttle-butts, ya know, multi colored meats etc... But Kaiser was brilliant at what he did and in record time/under budget/employed thousands and took care of them as well (fam's included). A true visionary.

Interesting that there's no mention of Kaiser getting caught defrauding the Government, thus the American taxpayer, through grossly overcharging for production of the C-123 aircraft in 1954 and was subsequently permanently barred from further Air Force contracts.
