I couldn't agree more with that assessment. And to further that thought, propaganda Fluff pieces like this (which make light of the atrocities of history) deserve to be scrutinized and considered as potential aiding and abetting/complicity. Seeing this documentary has definitely opened my eyes up to the true nature of this channel. Which is apparently NOT to inform others about history so much as serve as apologist for the TYRANTS who are likely paying them to white-wash the horrors of their misdeeds. Kissinger was/is nothing short of a sociopath l. And the pain, misery and social misfortunes his suggested "policies" inspired cannot be overstated. (Or concealed with ANY amount of such propaganda.) Unsubscribed. I will be certain to warn friends and associates of the deceptive Propaganda this channel puts out.

In case you didn't know WAR is an Ugly definition where the objective is to kill your enemy, my Uncle got drafted as a scared 17 year old, came back in 73' as a strung out junkie, he would get up on our grapefruit tree with a rifle in hand and would tell my grandmother, to get down 👎 & be quiet, because the "gooks" were coming. I just remember my grandmother crying & pleading telling my Uncle to get down por favor, she would say! Now, this is only one of the reasons, why politicians should think very hard & carefully before making the decision to go to WAR!

As a historian, I think you hit the nail on the head in the closing of the video - Henry Kissinger was a product of his time, much like his other contemporaries. Yes, much of the United States' foreign policy during the Cold War would be absolutely egregious by the moral standards of the post Cold War Era. But - as I often say - to view history and those within it through our own present-day values, morals, and general point-of-view does not help us understand history or its participants. We have to remember that this method of foreign policy was a norm for major powers of the time (and in some cases, it is still is utilized today). The United States simply possessed a greater amount of geopolitical capital. To blame Kissinger for the methods of foreign policy that took place during his time is about as misplaced as holding generals of the American Civil War responsible for the absolutely deadly and ludicrous tactics of the day. In both cases, by today's standards such acts could easily be described as butchery. However, in the context of their respective times this was simply what was done based upon the circumstances and resources available. Furthermore - as you correctly pointed out - the reason for Kissinger's bad rap as of late appears to be the fact that he's outlived nearly all his contemporaries; leaders and statesmen who were far more culpable in anything the United States did abroad. Kissinger is effectively a living face of the era, and thus he is more-or-less a target of moralist thought. Again, his own actions must be taken with the consideration of historical context: That is, the methods of foreign relations practiced by those both above and below him within the American government, as well as those of other powerful nations. Kissinger is effectively blamed for an entire method of geopolitics that was larger than himself - or indeed even larger than the government he served - simply because he's one of the last remaining statesmen of said era. He is a living face upon whom the amoral actions of the Cold War - be they his or not - can be placed.

The only place human rights have ever existed was withing the group of democracies that Kissinger was trying to protect from the Soviet Union during the Cold War. They reached a high point in human history by the end of the Cold War and are now in decline. It is possible that we are entering an Orwellian dystopia were nobody has any freedom. Kissinger was trying to defend a free world from an international jungle. The leaders of western countries today, have no commitment to the rule of law or the freedom of their citizens. Martin Luther King only had a chance of success in a country with the values the Cold Warriors like Kissinger were defending. He pointed out that we weren't living up to them. Today's leaders are more corrupt and willing to eliminate our freedoms than the leaders of the Cold War. Today as them, they are willing to make alliances with thugs to carry out foreign policy. We are arming Nazis in Ukraine in order to weaken Russia. The FBI and CIA were working with Twitter to subvert the first amendment to cover up that fact. Kissinger's generation made deals with bad actors but do not seem to have violated the first amendment to silence their critics. People were free to call Kissinger a war criminal. Today, people making similar accusations against NATO leaders get banned from Twitter, KZbin and Facebook by the government working with oligarchs. Kissinger was defending a form of democracy that was more free than ours is.

Kissinger never felt compelled by his and his family's experience of German fascism because he was too busy trying to stake out a part for himself in an American version of fascism that in retirement he rolled into some kind of ersatz worldly wisdom he continues to peddle today. It's still just a love of power and a dream of being on a high pedestal while the world may burn.

Britain controls France and the last thing humanity needs is Kings and Queens. You have as much or more blood on your hands than Kissinger. How many countries have you "Occupied" by brutal tyranny? Strip country clean of every asset and live off the backs of slaves. No wonder you have such long lunch breaks. I remember studying World War Two. Britain & France had a military alliance with Poland and you both stabbed them in the back. Nice of you, when you knew you had no intension of keeping your word, you were happy to learn how your "Allies" , Poland broke the enigma code and shared with you. Then Britain claimed it didn't work and they broke the code. They broke the code breakers after done using them when 2 of 4 had a mysterious death leaving either Britain or France. The plane stopped at end of runway, which was before the ocean when 2 men were seen getting into the plane. Lights went off so unable to see if they got off. Then plane goes into ocean and only one to survive was Pilot. How about the brilliant mathematician who used Polish info to create an add on feature just for Britain, France, Butcher Stalin and their American "Royal cousins, Sir President Roosevelt and 1/3 of our So called American Senate. You all LIBERATED Europe from British Hitler and left everone with totalitarian Royal rule. Freedom for your country. Slavery for other, the inferior countries. Stalin tortured to death anyone they decided may have tried to protect Polish citizens from the Allies Holocaust by Hitler. Studying the truth of European history can make one literrally sick. Haiti agreed to pay France 90% of GDP for 123 yrs, just to get your Tyrrany to leave. People are dirt poor while you live in luxury. After WW2, I don't know how u can possibly allow the same people in power. Didn't you have state sponsored terrorism against citizens not long ago. Welcome to what our European leaders have done to Americans since 1920.

To me this means he was able to see some opponents as honorable men and women, rather than as dangerous devils needing to be destroyed. Once the US took the path of global superpower, a move generally supported by our leaders and ordinary citizens, this meant exercising raw power militarily and economically, with at times enormous and terrible human consequences. In that sense, Kissinger was simply a product of the values and ideals of his times, and no more an Evil figure than Mao or Stalin. In retrospect, I wish we Americans had taken a more peaceful, generous path. But it is what it is …

The video starts with a bad mistake (minute 00:00 - 00:14). The comment says that Henry Kissinger was born in Fürth, Germany. There are three places called "Fürth": Fürth(Bay), Fürth(Odw) and Fürth(Ostertal). None of them is in the Alps. The photo which is shown to illustrate this text, can by no means be "Fürth". The mountains in the background are much too high.

The trouble with "realpolitk" is that it deludes itself into thinking it is merely being "realistic" in a "bad, bad world", but this degenerates into mere cynicism, shameless self-interest at others' expense, jusification for violence, indifference to killing and suffering. In other words, colonialist exploitation and imperialist oppression.

Those calling Kissinger a war criminal are being extreme. The nature of geopolitics is that morally ambiguous decisions are often made as an attempt to do some good in an otherwise impossible situation. Whereas most American civilians can afford the luxury of holding somewhat absolutist views, a statesman dealing with evil regimes really can't. Yes, Kissinger has blood on his hands, but so does literally any world leader or high ranking diplomat. The deal is, you appoint a diplomat and send them out to negotiate the best deal they can get. Odds are, you won't like the deal, but neither will the other side. That's how negotiation works. Anyhow, diplomats are given these difficult tasks and are also generally exempted from prosecution unless they really seriously cross the line. Kissinger crossed no such lines.

This semi biographical on Kissinger has captured all aspects of his life,,what touched me most was his early childhood experiences and the fact that even in America there are people who are antisemitic,,Like Kissinger people who face life threatening experiences reach a point of suppressing feelings,,hence for his”coldness,”We’re it not for the strong democratic and liberalism of Americans many people like Kissinger would have not made,,it’s for that reason that America has many friends and well wishers throughout the world,,,,

Great bio. I love The Cold War era. I have a question for those older than me (I was born 1968) so I vaguely remember hearing about him in news etc. what I want to know is, he seems to be a mixed bag of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ so to speak. So, was there a period of that time, under a certain administration or decade where he served or advised that his decisions were better, or seemed to be better for that specific time period and were a benefit. and what were his not so good decisions, advice etc . I have read books , watched documentaries etc, I just want to get other points of view. TYIA.

As a Franconian, I always felt connected to Henry when I heard him talk. I am sad that he has passed away - he was up-to-date until his last days; a remarkably alert mind. Of course, there are good and bad outcomes of a long life in politics. But whoever criticises Henry should at first humbly take a look in the mirror and think about his own life and the moral quality of his own decisions of a life-time. I am certain that Henry never intendedly decided to harm people. If this happened, it was an unavoidable damage caused by pursuing a political aim considered essential at that very point in time. As Secretary of State or as National Security Advisor it was his job to work and fight for his country's interests. Americans should be proud of having had a guy like him in their high ranks - especially, when looking at the unfortunate figures who bear political responsibility in western countries today...
