@@andrewmiles3378 , The Abbey do things very well. One of the nice little touches was that they brought out the banners, which you don't often see in procession like that, and the Pope was proceeded by the Banner of Saint Peter, who is also the saint to who the Abbey is dedicated. But, in answer to what he was thinking..... it is complex ..... The complexities of that service are such that the Papal Legate was nearly rearing the remains of his hair out .... and Cardinal Pell was weeping tears of blood. First they got him into the robing room, and it was made absolutely clear that while his priestly status was honoured at the Abbey, he was NOT regarded as a Bishop. The Bishop was Rowan Williams, and that was that. Secondly, services at the Abbey are Christian and inclusive..... Now come and meet the people who are here to greet you..... the Catholic Bishops you have already met, of course, so here is the Bishop of the Church of Ireland and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Major General or whatever her title is of the Salvation Army, the Head of the Lutheran Church, (who took both his hands in hers and gave him a warm blessing, and here we have the Patriarchs of the Western European divisions of the Eastern and Western Orthodox Churches (which don't usually see eye to eye, but this is London), and the Pope has just shaken hands with all these lovely enthusiastic men and woman from Churches that have not been acknowledge by Rome since Constantine was a lad....! And THEN he had to process,behind Dean John Hall, next to the magnificent Rowan Williams and with that large Canon with his splendid voice right behind him. The Abbey had also prepared a nice little reading for him. The sight of the Bishops and Cardinals faces was a study. By the time the service was finished, the Pope had, either knowingly or unwittingly, acknowledged, not only that the Church of England exists, but that it is valid, that it has a right to exist, and like the Church of Rome, is an integral part of that One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church ..... So there you are! Exactly what the full ramifications of this service at the Royal Peculiar are, I do not know. Is anyone brave enough to write a Thesis on it? We do know that despite all the good and wonderful, and very dangerous matters that Pope Benedict was prepared to delve into (the Vatican Bank clean-up, and the courageous instruction to put matters of sexual abuse into the hands of local legal authorities) ) ..... the acceptance of this invitation to Westminster Abbey was the most daring. Possibly the most outrageous and daring thing that any Pope had done for 800 years, since Pope Innocent III recognised that what the world needed was humility, and kissed the feet of Francis of Assisi. Oh well, after so much excitement, I suppose an early retirement seemed in order ..... or did it?

@DavidParker-cf2km4 жыл бұрын
@@harrycontois7762 You are quite correct, I do not condemn a "religion", God already did. Notice that John the Baptizer called the Jews a "brood of vipers". John passed judgment on Judaism with their damnable Talmud of traditions that made of no effect the law of God. Jesus called the Pharisees children of the devil. Jesus affirmed the Old Testament, creation, and all the prophets. Since you seem to have missed it, Roman Catholicism is man-made, teaching salvation by meritorious works. Please do show we where purgatory, indulgences, limbo, prayers to Mary, prayers to designated saints, indulgences, etc., are found in the Bible. There was a reason for the Reformation and there was a very bloody reprisal by the papists for the next two hundred years against Christians. I have no doubt at all that if the Pope had the military power now that he did then, that war to kill every Christian would still be fought. The essence of Christianity is salvation by the grace of God alone through faith in the effectual, finished work of Jesus' propitiatory sacrifice of Himself on the cross for God's elect and not of any meritorious work of man. Perhaps you never read Ephesians 2:8-9 or the rest of the Bible. Telling the truth, especially to hostile people who do not want to hear it, is also required of a Christian.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE HOLY Being Good (goodness) does not SAVE …becoming Holy does! “Be Holy because I am Holy ” (1 Peter 1, 16). It is natural for all those deciding to follow Christ in His Law to change the attitudes toward others to become better people to become good! Goodness however DOES NOT SAVE because ALL SINS REMAIN! A pure heart (sin free heart) is needed in order to return to the presence of God [Matthew 5-8] “BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART- FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD”. Man becomes Holy and "sainted" by participation in the holiness of God. To be Holy is to become ~a new creation~ by part taking with God during Baptism as delivered by the Holy Spirit to the Apostles the day of Pentecost 2000 years ago! This is how Paul describes His personal experience, as being ~a new creation~ part man part god (by the Grace of God) [Gal 2:20] “So that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me” Paul admits that God (Christ) lives in him, making him this way part man and part god a god-man by His Grace, a way of being never seen on heaven or earth before also known as becoming a New Creation. [Galatians 6:15] “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature”. There was only ONE CHURH present in the world the first 1054 years of Christianity! Paul was very lucid as to a certain characteristic of the Church none negotiable that was delivered by the Holy Spirit. If Salvation Truth had to be based on one verse of the Holy bible alone, it would be the verse spoken by Paul to the Ephesians 4:5 “5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism”. This is because the Church is not an human made organization. [In Colossians 1: 24] Paul verifies the fact that the Church is the Body of Christ! “Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:: The Church is a living ~god man~ organism that is Divine created by the Holy Spirit the day of Pentecost with 85 Holy Apostolic canons that considered the WILL of GOG for the Salvation of man kind! When Michael Voris from Church Militant watches this, how can he say our Anglican Church is null and void - I can never and will never fathom that mindset.

For those who enjoy this, the event to welcome the Pope to Westminster Cathedral (the Roman Catholic Cathedral of London) begins in an equally spectacular manner, with glorious music.

What a fine and rousing hymn is Henry Purcell's "Christ Is Made The Sure Foundation". A truly fine Papal performance from a 2010 Ecumenical Celebration Service at Westminster Abbey, City of Westminster, UK.

It's Catholic too. In the Red Worship Hymnal (GIA) # 732. I'm cantoring this evening at 5:15 Mass for our Priest's 5th Anniversary. One of his favorites. It will be the recessional.

Here's the Latin version especially for our Roman buddies: ANGULARIS FUNDAMENTUM 1. Angularis fundamentum lapis Christus missus est, qui parietum compage in utroque nectitur, quem Sion sancta suscepit, in quo credens permanet. 2.

@gadielrivera18806 жыл бұрын
That is a very general statement. Catholics actually invented Gregorian Chant which is one the most beautiful music in existence. Under the papacy of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI Tradition was upheld in a more visible way. You should hear all of Saint Peter’s Square singing the Salve Regina. Also though some may be bad singers at least we have sane Theology God bless you!!!

One of the things that I love abut this video is how very HAPPY the Pope looks! He is having a hard time not grinning. In answer to the person who remarked on him not wearing a mitre, it is because he holds no position, and has no status in the particular church. He is essentially a guest. A sign of "headship" would have been out of place.
@mudgebauer5 жыл бұрын
Yes, and the Archbishop could have used a fancier mitre for the occasion rather than that dull drab gold one. He looks a lot like Foster Brooks.

Mandy J Maddison. This is certainly an example of "You learn something every day." All the peculiarities of Court and Church must take lifetimes to absorb.
