Devito's version: "So we auditioned a bunch of guys, then my secretary phoned all their agents with the standard "He was great, we've put him on the short list - it's between him and another guy" bullshit story we tell everyone until a contract gets signed by our first choice... honestly, you should have seen the Blag Flag guy. Honestly, he is an actor though. I'm not saying he's the best Shakespearian method actor in the world or whatever but he has the ability to forget about his reality and create a new reality and become part of it and that's all acting really is. Even when he came out and said "Break a leg. I did." he was acting. I'm sure he didn't feel naturally antagonistic toward them. He briefly just created a new reality for the sake of humor or to get a rise out of someone. Not everyone can do that. Not everyone can make their mindset vastly different easily and quickly.
