Rollins taking the piss out of the English audience, and incorporating it into his song is the very definition of art.

Jesus H Christ... A spontaneous self-remixing to represent a reflexive, dually constructed truth through self-misrepresentation and farce, and to engage the audience in this in the farce of a mass social environment: a postmodern theorist would be preoccupied for eons with this whole scenario 🙃

Of course the crowd ‘got it’ it’s classic British humour and H knows it! And he would be gutted if he didn’t get ‘you fat bastard’ chanted back to him lovingly and with clear deep irony. Great showman. Poet. Lyricist. Human being.

I love the slow beautiful music leading into the brutal "Liar" sections. When we discuss the greatest rock bands I think Rollins Band is rarely mentioned, but this band put out some really amazing music. (My favorite is "All I Want".) And the live performances prove what great musicians they are.

I was there. Meeting Henry in the press area, I introduced myself to the artist, asking, "Hello, Mr Rollins, may I take a photo"? I still have that photo, although after 29 years I'm not sure where it is? He was an imposing figure. Having seen the band on the preceding tour, at Leicester's De Monfort Uni (post-Polytechnic), in the photographer's pit, I witnessed a superb performance, closer than anything I had at Reading. Henry Rollins is one great performer. It is ingrained in my memory.

Damn, that song never fails to send shivers. It's one of the most important and passionate songs/performances in music history. He really went all out on this one. Kind of makes me sad that an English crowd couldn't get Rollins' sardonic sense of humour... How can they have missed the whole point of the song?! He's exposing the malignant narcissists mind.
@lebheidenstrm5392
@lebheidenstrm5392 4 жыл бұрын
What I loved about it was that those that were upset with him thought he was speaking directly to them....but he was also part of a song that was being played. Maybe it was too much for some people minds and they thought there were multiple levels of performance going on at once.

When he sings he's at his most real. "Waiting for a long time forever. Because everything I say is everything that you've ever wanted to hear. I'M A LIAR." That's an introvert talking, that knows that no one really identifies with him. Keep on thinking that you get him. But the reason that you like him is probably because you don't get him.

He told my whole life story... Lonely, ugly, loser. Than at 21 I found that one girl, who told me everything and more and believed it all, than she walked out without a care in the world after 5 years of lying, left me scarred for life as she was way outta my league. I should've known after a lifetime of being the ugly duckling and not even able to get the ugly chicks, than this beautiful, smart, funny girl comes along and makes me believe I'm all that, which is a dangerous thing to do to someone who's really ugly cause people will walk out at slightest show of confidence or ego... And yes my friends even stopped talking to me... What im saying is if someone comes along and it seems too good to be true it probably isnt
