'What route is Henry taking tonight?' asked the driver. 'The costal run, it's the quickest.' 'But, I told you,' gasped the driver, 'that's dangerous for a big engine like Henry!' The yardmaster quickly phoned the signalman. Henry roared past the signal box. 'I'll soon make up for lost time.' The signalman couldn't hear the warning. “Oh look, Henry’s spooked,” said a truck and the others giggled in their silly way. “Be quiet!” snapped Henry, “I’m not scared!” But he was. A little later, the fog came down. As they approached the same area, they saw the amber light again. “Here we go,” said Henry’s driver. Then under known to Henry, the gates were mysteriously closed by themselves. And the signal went red. The Trucks had seen all and they were spooked too. “Faster faster, there’s a ghost about!” “Stop, stop!” yelled Henry. A mysterious figure watched Henry go by. Ahead there was a landslide blocking the line. Henry braked hard but the trucks hit some of the rock and plunged into the ravine.

You know, I do wonder. How DID the gates close on their own?
@MrJoeyWheeler8 жыл бұрын
TheTrainFan 55 So the gates were mechanically-operated, then?
@MrJoeyWheeler8 жыл бұрын
TheTrainFan 55 Hm, I was not aware of that. I thought that particular style of crossing was manual. Of course, this episode did have much bigger problems. Like why they would have permission to take a train down a line which was blocked - and why the blockage had not been reported.
@MrJoeyWheeler8 жыл бұрын
TheTrainFan 55 Well, I suppose that would clear it up. Of course, were I the Fat Controller I probably would have been a bit harsh on Old Bailey for not just being clear-cut about the issue. Even with his spooky 'warnings', he could easily have caused someone to get injured or worse. Not to mention, since several trucks plummeted into the ravine, they got destroyed and their loads damaged. That sort of thing wouldn't go down too well :P
@MrJoeyWheeler8 жыл бұрын
TheTrainFan 55 True, but the trucks are very rarely held accountable for their actions. While I'm sure tha the trucks' misbehaviour is a representation of how tricky old plank-wagons used to be, the railway would still technically be responsible - and the engine and crew who were driving it. Unless the goods were being delivered for the railway's own use, there'd be some big repurcussions there :P
