I think I read somewhere that Margaret Beaufort had an extremely difficult childbirth due to her age & she was never able to conceive again despite having two more husbands. Poor girl she was just a child.

Thanks Clare. Interesting to know that you don’t subscribe to the archer theory about Henry’s grandfather. I’m glad you mentioned Katherine of Aragon’s fasting during her pregnancies. It adds a tragic element to the deaths of her children. Perhaps there were genetic elements, but the idea that what she thought of as her piety and sacrifice to God was probably a contributing factor is so sad. They knew nothing of prenatal care or even pregnancy and female anatomy. So sad.

Is there any reason why Catherine was so religious during her life? Too bad there wasn't a Cardinal or Bishop to tell her that you don't fast during pregnancy. You don't fast while trying to conceive. A doctor saying same with the religious backup. It might have been irrelevant to the situation... How sad... Nice video🙃🙃

Is King Henry's Y-DNA known anywhere? Even with descent with mistresses before he became King? And did he have early mistrisses?

Prior to Bessie Blount, there are allegations of mistresses. The most notable is the accusation he had an affair with Anne Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon, sister to his friend Edward Stanford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham, and those allegations came up in tandem with another of Anne’s alleged affairs, with Henry’s other close friend, William Compton. He only had one acknowledged illegitimate son, Henry Fitzroy, with Bessie Blount, and he has no descendants via legitimate or illegitimate lines that he confirmed. Claire has discussed her belief that Mary Boleyn’s children are not his, and while there are a number of allegations from others, it’s telling he acknowledged Bessie’s son, but not these alleged others, who were claimed by the alleged mistresses’ husbands. Unlike his maternal grandfather, with whom he shared a lot of vices, Henry seemed like the type to marry a woman, then move on and get rid of them when he got bored, and then onto the next, instead of having numerous mistresses while remaining in a marriage that did not suit him.

@@cakt1991 Thanks Courtney it maybe just me, but it seems that everyone is leaving the Y-DNA out of the question? We all know many young men do sew their wild oats in years before marriage, when they are young and in their teens. I believe you are right about the known illegitimate sons f King Henry VII. But my question goes to the unknown sons? When I see these programs and the sir names, it amazes me how many of these sir names are among the first who came to Virginia as Cavaliers. Some of these families and later generations, that cared for Henry's illegitimates were known leaders, who came to the American Colony. Like the Pages, Wyatts and Dillards. The Wyatts an early Governor of Virginia, and generations before a Treasurer of Henry the VIII. Was Henry Fitzroy raised by the Page family? I wonder about the unknown illegitimate sons of Henry VIII? And today if we could find a sample of his hair or something that can be Y-DNA tested that belonged to him. We may be able to find and/or know if King Henry VIII really does have unknown descent maybe even a line who came to Virginia in the early 1600's? Has anyone done a good Y-DNA test on the Kings items which may still show his DNA. That may or may not match his unknown descent?
