My mother and I took a DNA test and discovered we are mixed with Yoruba, Moroccan /North African and Lemba Yehudim. Yet my parents, grandparents, great grandparents and etc grew up on plantations in the United States of America. They were descendants of the Trans-Atlantic and Arab Slave trade. Deuteronomy Chapter 28:68 And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. (Rescue or redeem) The truth is the truth no matter how uncomfortable it makes others.

And when were black Africans brought from Israel to Egypt by ships in Irons. When were black Africans offered for sale and not sold? Every black African alive was sold, fat, skinny, tall, short, ugly, beautiful All were sold! The Yoruba, are Nigerians, the Moroccans/North Africans are Berber/Amazigh amd the Lemba are not Jews. They have been shown to have Arab Muslim DNA from the Arab traders. My dear, you are African, not Israelite or Jewish.

@@rachelsamuel3328is that what the Lemba ppl say themselves? There are Lemba here in the comments & they said for Eurasian converts like the presenter to remember they came to them in Africa asking to be taught ancient paleo Hebrew etc . I’ve seen videos of Jewish in Africa speaking to ancient Israelite tribes & asking them “ I know your the ancient Israelites and I’m Jewish (ish as in kind of if u go by definition) but the question is, do you want to be known as ancient Israelites or do you want to be called jews” they answered to him, “who came first the Jew or the ancient Israelite? Who is original? The question is why do u want to be known as US” the Jewish guy laughed and agreed… all these little things that make u think. Then there’s the Igbo tribe that can speak ancient Hebrew never having learned it simply because they still speak it as they’ve always spoken it… yet Jewish ppl can’t do that as modern Hebrew is a reconstructed language and they’ve said they can’t even be sure of the pronunciation. Curious things indeed

According to modern archaeological research, Great Zimbabwe was built by indigenous African groups such as the Shona and Venda, not the Lemba. And there is no evidence of Judaic practices in that civization (it's elites practiced indigenous African religions involving animism, totemism and ancestor veneration). Colonial-era Rhodesian writers preferred the theory that the Lemba had built it because it served their racist idea that native Africans were incapable of creating civilizations without outside influences.

I find it interesting that the Lemba seem to have a tradition of female conversion. This seems to be consistent with the Biblical tradition of belonging to the Nation of Israel. A good example would be that of Ruth or Rahab both of whom are ancestors of David. So, it seems like there needs to be a decision made on the validity of the ancient conversions of these women in order to determine whether or not these “Jewish” claims could be validated. It only seems consistent. I seem to recollect that a good number of people with Ashkenazi ancestry have mitochondrial DNA from the Italian peninsula. So, wouldn’t their claims be just as valid as the Lemba claims? I am asking this sincerely. I do not have an agenda.
@user-jr4kc6lu9q

Only a minority of Ashkenazic mitochondrial DNA lineages come from Italy, actually. Naffi wrote to Anthrogenica "So i went over the book [The Maternal Genetic Lineages of Ashkenazic Jews by Kevin Alan Brook] and here is the origin of the mtdnas in the book according to the author 26.19% Broadly Western Eurasian 24.00% Middle Eastern [= Israelite and Persian] 12.86% Broadly European 9.32% Slavic/Polish 8.2% Greco-Italian 7.14% German/Northwestern Europe 5.0% Central or Eastern European 2.53% North African 2.52% Iberian/Southern France 1.35% Eastern European or Khazarian 0.56% Khazar 0.35% East Asian" ..... So in fact Ashkenazim have some Middle Eastern mtDNA which can credibly be connected to the Levant...... The Lemba don't belong to any SPECIFIC paternal or maternal lineages that Jews belong to, because they are not actually descended from the Israelites at all.

Since the Lemba men have been shown to have the Cohen Modal Haplotype, they preserve the lineage of the ancient priests of Israel. You mentioned that there was a time in Israelite history when patrilineal lineage was upheld; and the rabbanites requires matrilineal only. Therefore, it seems likely that the Lemba men departed Israel at a time when Israelite identity was imparted father-to-son and preserved that tradition. Otherwise, they would have maintained matrilineal descent and married only Israelite women. In light of the genetic evidence, and their spiritual practices and history, it is clear they are Israelites. Therefore, cannot the rabbinate of Israel make an exception for them in view of the fact the they represented an earlier stage of Israelite history? They accepted the Ethiopians and the Ethiopians hadn't even heard of Hanukkah or the Book of Esther (another Israelite group preserving an ancient stratum of history).

Just a quick correction, the CMH that over 50% of Cohen have is just Y haplogroup J. Y haplo J originated around 40,000 years ago in Caucasus/Armenian highlands, not 3,000. J is also the most common Y haplo in the middle east in general, meaning, not only are most Cohen, J, but most Yehudim and most middle eastern men. Now, the Cohen who have J are broken up into two major subgroups, J1 and J2, and each of those subgroups are broken up into multiple subgroups. J1 and J2, which DO both derive from J, diverged from one another like 35k years ago or something along those lines. This makes it IMPOSSIBLE for the majority of Cohen to be descended of Aaron or even Levi. As Aaron and Levi would have had the same Y haplo. And we know modern Levites have drastically different proportions. None the less, the CMH was further narrowed down later, and about 25% of modern Cohen DO share a common ancestor around 3,000 years ago, one of the J2 subgroups. So MAYBE this subgroup of J2 are descended of Aaron. However that is not necessarily the only way to arrive at these proportions. They could have simply outproduced the other Cohen, or Cohen might not have started out as the actual sons of Aaron. But either way, its only about 25% of Cohen of a specific subclade of J2, who share a common male ancestral line from around 3,000 years ago. Otherwise, spot on, good work as always.

I certainly found it facinating. Would love to know the whole story of how the Lemba came about, we'll probably never know, but to think of that journey from Canaan/Egypt/Arabia all the way to southern Africa. The only small point I'd make is it'd be interesting to know which Bantu language they speak - Zulu (or Ndebele - essentially the same language) or another. Bantu is like saying 'Romance' or Slavic language I believe. But so interesting. Genetics is such an interesting and important addition to written sources and archeology. it's like human archeology.

I have a genetic analogy for you based on what you wrote about linguistics. The Cohen Modal Haplotype of 1997 which was based on only 6 markers is analogous to a broad language family like Romance or Slavic or Semitic. By contrast, the Extended Cohen Modal Haplotype with 12 or more markers is more specific and tells us more, such as whether somebody could be tribally Israelite or not. The Lemba fail to belong to the extended haplotype, only the simple incomplete haplotype, and therefore fail to belong to a specific Israelite group, but do partially match Arabians.

A cogent presentation, Henry, in which you gave an easy-to-understand, but valid, review of Jewish ancestry and descent. You stated that bloodlines do not matter in determining Jewish identity, and that is true, but there is one exception, and that is the concept of זרע ישראל. This applies when a gentile with proven Jewish ancestry asks to be converted to Judaism. Such a person generally is more readily accepted as a candidate for conversion than a gentile of entirely gentile ancestry (although the Jewish ancestry does not necessarily guarantee a successful conversion).

The Jews lived previously in Morocco, Brasil, the US, Poland, Iraq etc., but all had a common ancestor, The probability of that happening with unrelated individuals does not exist.

So the Lemba aren't that much different than Ashkenazi Jews (and possibly Eastern European and Russian Jews too). Research has shown that possibly most Ashkenazi Jews have mitochondrial DNA that matches European and gentile mitochondrial DNA whereas the Ashkenazi men's y-chromosome DNA distribution closely matches that of Mizrahi men. Supposedly mine and my mother's mitochondrial DNA comes directly from Moses' daughter and one of my father's male ancestors was a Maccabee son and yet because I have a clearly Latin/Hispanic last name I get a lot of pushback from Ashkenazi/Eastern European/Russian Jews as to whether I am part Jewish or not. Really what right do Ashkenazi Jews have of saying who is actually Jewish and who is not when clearly most of them are descended from gentile women (the supposed matrilineal descent of Jews therefore does not exist). My guess is that the Orthodox people in Israel who decide who is Jewish and who is not probably in most cases have gentile mitochondrial DNA and cannot prove that the woman responsible for their gentile mitochondrial DNA went through an officially approved Orthodox conversion. It is a total and complete hypocrisy. Maybe love of God and Judaism and the Torah and the good Jewish people should be the only determinant of who is actually Hebrew and who isn't? Also, 60 Minutes did a report about the Lemba Jews many years ago. Maybe Goldstein got the idea for his research from the 60 Minutes show?

The Lemba have no Jewish or Israelite DNA. The Lemba do not have the Cohen Markers, they have a similar Arab DNA pattern. There were 5 studies done on Cohen genetics. The original CMH (Cohen Modal Haplotype) was tested in 1996 and 2000 when DNA testing was in its infancy. Dr. Karl Skorecki tested Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews that self identified as Cohanim. From these "White" Jews they found 6 gene sequences that most had, they labeled this as the CMH. The problem was that the control group, which was mostly Levantine Arabs that had no ties to the Jews, let alone to the Israelite High Priests, *Over 30% showed positive for these 6 gene sequences,* If this was truly a test of Cohen genetics, these Arabs should have shown negative. In later testing they tightened the parameters of the DNA testing and they used more gene sequences to create *The Extended CMH* this had many more gene sequences chosen. When the Arabs and Lemba were tested against the Extended CMH. Neither the Arabs, nor the Lemba had these genes, while 95% of the Real Cohen Jews showed positive. The Study in the South African Medical Journal as well as the Extended CMH, *the Lemba do not show any Cohen genes.* *_The South African Medical Journal,_** 2013 in their study titled, ***_Lemba origins revisited: tracing the ancestry of Y chromosomes in the South African and Zimbabwean Lemba_* stated; *While it was not possible to trace unequivocally the origins of the non-African Y chromosomes in the Lemba and Remba, this study does not support the earlier claims of their Jewish genetic heritage*

The Lembas claim descent from ancient Israelites, and they follow certain Jewish practices such as circumcision and refraining from eating pork, and for many geneticists and historians the genetic evidence seemed to verify their claim."_* _"However, it soon became apparent that the CMH _*_is not specific to Jews or descendants of Jews._*_ In a 1988 article in Science News titled, "The Priests Chromosome", Dr Skorecki indicated (in an interview) that some non-Jews also possess the Cohen markers, and that the markers are therefore not "unique or special". The CMH is very common among the Iraqi Kurds, according to a 1999 study by C.Brinkman st al. And in her 2001 article, Oppenheim wrote: "The dominant haplotype of the Muslim Kurds (haplotype 114) was only one microsatellite-mutation step apart from the CMH... (Oppenheim 2001, PG 1100). Furthermore, the CMH is also found among some Armenians, according to Dr. Levon Yepiskoposyan (Head of the Institute of Man in Yerevan. Armenia), who has studied genetics for many years. Dr.Avshalom Zoosmann-Diskin wrote: "The suggestion that the 'Cohen Modal Haplotype' is a signature haplotype for. the ancient Hebrew population is also not supported by data from other populations"._ _"In short, the CMH is a genetic marker from the northern Middle East which is not unique to Jews. However, its existence among many Kurds and Armenians, as well as some Italians and Hungarians, would seem to support the overall contention that the Kurds and Armenians are the close relatives of modern Jews and the majority of today's Jews have paternal ancestry from the northeastern Mediterranean region."_ I think this time you did not do your due diligence. There are many of the Black Hebrews that watch you and twist your words and the information you provide. I am still putting out fires because of the mention of the Kalonomys family as being one of the original founding Ashkenazi families, the BHI now insist because of this fact, from your video that ALL Jews are converts and derive from the Kalonomys family who were all converts. The Lemba were tested against the Original CMH, this study was created by Dr.Shorecki, not Goldstein and it has been shown to be too broad and used a small amount of gene sequences. The later studies all show that the Lemba do not show the Extended CMH that used more and specific gene sequences, not general genes. The BHI not knowing that the original CMH came from Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews that self -Identified as Jews constantly use their incorrect understanding that all the Lemba show 53% of High Priests DNA when the general Jewish population slows less than 3% of this DNA. Many of us are in the trenches daily fighting the BHI that call the Real Jews as fakes and converts, You could do a video on the true DNA of Jews and the unbroken chain of Jewish descent, tradition, law, culture, language, and heritage going back to Mount Sinai, how there are Jews shown in the ancient Synogogues as light skinned people, how the Eguptians in their Book of Gates showed the Israelites as sallow skinned with fringes on their clothes as the Torah demands. A visual show of Jews depiction, throughout the ages would help. They say that you insist the Real Jews were Negroes, because in the Roman catacombs you showed dark skinned Jews being pictured. Another great source has been the KZbin channel *Ninety-Three TV* who debunks the BHI ideas that All the Sephardi Jews were Negroes as they were called swarthy by the Europeans, anything you could do to help this fight would be appreciated.

Lastly, Lemba are Jews and just like myself, we do not need some Arab or fake Jew to tell us who we are, science do not lie and our oral traditions are very clear, you on the other hand most likely and Arab living in North Africa because of military invasion and religious conquest, you are not a Jew and not even African.

What is interesting is that most ethnicities that I have heard of trace their origin to the north according to ancient stories. Somewhere in Egypt or onward. There is a myth that Europeans started that says "bantu" originate from equatorial Africa specifically Cameroon but our own historical records point North around Egypt or Ethiopia.

Now this is verifiable. The first time I was identified as being a member of a "tribe" was by two Jews who operated a business on 7th Avenue, Hendersonville, NC. They were father and son and were members of the Jewish Temple on King Street. It measured about (I want to say 12' by 24'.) well very small. There were no outside markings. AT least I don't recall any. When the father saw me he yelled for the son, "Sammy come and look at this one." I was about four or five years of age and hid behind my stepfather as Louis continued calling my stepfather by name and asking. "Where did you get this one?" My stepfather answered, "He came with my second wife." The word "tribe" was used several times. My stepfather paid close attention and the next thing I can remember about this was my stepfather describing what Louis and Sammy had said to my mother. "They said he was a member of a tribe." He was sure they meant Cherokee Tribe! I want to go back and see if that Temple is still there.
