The technical quality of your video (specifically skintones) makes me want to listen to you on this subject. I was not deceived. Thanks a lot

Ha! I have enough experience to get by making my stuff look pretty good (before filming and once editing), but I definitely not a master at perfecting the colors/skintones of my images/videos. Thanks for the compliment though! Have a good one!

What if I am using strobes and flashes, should I turn them on or off before taking a shot of the gray card or the color checker? Or flashes and strobe should be turned on before taking a shot of the gray card or white balance card?

I saw people selecting all other colors instead of grey on the card and doing color calibration in Davinci resolve. Is is possible to do the same thing in Premiere? Davinci has more detailed color correction tools.

Good video! It is one of the best I have seen on this subject. Please, could you help me with this question: In lightroom, is there any recommendation or indication to know which gray box to use as a sample for the white balance? for example: is it better to use the lightest or darkest grays on the card depending on the type of photography? or is it irrelevant which one we take the sample from?
@ThisGuy
@ThisGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Technically there is a right one to select (the more middle one), but I tend to adjust my settings (grade my images) to my liking after anyways, so most of the time I just click until I get a starting look that I like and then go from there. If you watched my other white balance videos I discussed the fact that all of the "18% middle grey" things that I own are different shades, so...either it doesn't really matter for regular people, or the photo industry is messing with us on purpose! Having said all that I've never had to edit anything in my life to be "perfectly color accurate" - in that case I'm sure there's a more complex/refined way to edit images, that involves more than just clicking the right grey.

interesting thing with photoshop, if you have a colour checker in a jpeg image and its way off it does a great job of correcting the colours with the 'set white point" in levels. i've been a jpeg shooter for stills for 2 1/2 years by choice so i learnt to set the exposures and colours for the final image in camera, i knew raw was the better data recording and i naturally knew i was giving up what i thought was the east automatic colour adjustment by not shooting in raw i'm thinking about getting a canon pixma 200 printer so i bought a colour checker to get much more accurate colours, my thinking was if i have the card in the scene on the computer and in my hands at home i could at least manually adjust the colours with photoshop adjustments i deliberately shot several jpeg images with the card in at bad w/b and shot in mixed lighting and under a florescent light and to my surprise photoshop 5 with mac book running el capitan did every adjustment in one click with the set white point the item in hues that i would like to know about is what the colourize droppers do for add and subtract when you change from master to the individual colours i hue adjustment

Ok, not just for beginers. That color tablet is for precise color correction, when you click to colors. I wanted only see, how you do it, but nothing about that wasnt told. =/
@ThisGuy
@ThisGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this video isn't meant to show anything beyond "basic fixes" with "one-click" - as the title suggests. Not a full blown explanation on how to get "precise colors. I have linked a video that explains how to use it for video in the description, as this person does a great job of explaining how to use it for that. Have a good one.

@@xerox7442 If you can find it cheap, then it's a good starter camera to learn photography. If you plan on also using it for video as well, then it's maybe not a great choice as it only has 720p and no continuous autofocus

@ThisGuy

@@c0pyimitati0n lol that's because this video is about ways you can fix your WB issues with one click, not how to get "perfect white balance". I mention a few times in this series that I'm NOT showing you how to get perfect colours, just how to not get bad colours as most monitors are calibrated different anyway, and most people are watching because they are just making videos for youtube and/or for fun and don't need to master scopes in that case. I also have a video (from someone else that explains how to use SpiderCheckr and scopes) linked in the description for people that want to learn more...since I don't ever use it "properly" I didn't feel like I should be the one explaining how to do use it. You are completely missing context/target audience, I mean even in my description I put "fix with one click using the spydercheckr (sort of)" - so I'm glad you're a master at using scopes to get perfect white balance, but for most of my videos I don't, and nobody would be the wiser.
@c0pyimitati0n
@c0pyimitati0n 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThisGuy yeah but one click doesn't do justice... My manual correction looks insanely better than what that MBR effect does. MBE 3 pushed my clips way too far into the red/magenta zone. It's always good to understand scopes just to double check that everything is correct. They actually fairly easy to understand the basics of like for checking exposure and white balance.
@ThisGuy
@ThisGuy 3 жыл бұрын
@@c0pyimitati0n I completely agree with all of that, but my target audience isn't you...it's mostly beginners and/or people that either aren't ready for or don't care to "correct" everything in great detail...they just want a quick fix to make their video look a little better, or like I said, just not terrible looking. Those that are more experienced want to dive deeper into the topic, will find other videos. Thanks for the feedback. I actually do appreciate it.
