Beautiful. It’s so nice hearing these older performances to hear pieces played musically. These days it’s all so robotic sounding and too fast. This was lovely.

Totally agree. These so called “stars” of the violin don’t convey music this way or have this kind of sound
@TheJcfclark2 жыл бұрын
I've been listening to more recent performances of this Concerto played beautifully, but much faster and at first I preferred them over Szeryng's but now I definitely prefer this, especially his absolutely exquisite playing... the articulation. wow. It's like he worships every single note.
@nataliekriegler93298 ай бұрын
These “violin stars” of today aren’t comparable but are super technically proficient….almost robotic. The teachers who teach 20 year olds now are not in the same category even of great violin teachers from the 50s, 60s 70s.

I think that it is the right tempo. Playing it quicker doesn't let you follow the subtle harmonic progression by the composer. This is not a competion about who plays it faster, it is about enjoying the music. The first movement is allegro, not presto. The second one is mostly piano, just the last phrase has a crescendo going up to a forte. In the last movement there are at least two fortissimo passages, and when hear some recordings you don't hear the difference. I think that this recording is very good, but there are some places where I would suggest some improvements. The one by Perlman seems slightly better.

Julia M the tempo is right, perfect. No sense with some violinists playing so fast They forgot the music. Don t forget... he s szeryng
@fierywomanpacnw70044 жыл бұрын
Vivaldi did not indicate a metronome marking (there were no metronomes in his day.) He only wrote: Allegro -- which, by the way, means "happy". This is a very elegant tempo.

This is considered one of the easier and accessible "real" pieces for pupils to perform. I played it with a chamber orchestra once, many many years ago, as a teenager in a small competition. I played it like Every note counts. The conductor started faster, but I played it slower (what gall!! -- and slower than this, too), and to his credit, the conductor followed. They were a good orchestra, teachers of the hosting music school. We only practiced it once or twice before the performance. It was a zen-like experience. I decided to not be afraid, because if I fail, so be it, but being afraid will make it more likely for me to fail; so let's not be afraid and just do my best, I decided. Put everything behind me so only music is what remains, and let come what may. Turned out, it turned out pretty good. My first and last performance.

Jolly Jack Your story is inspirational with a powerful message: "Do not be afraid because of you fail, let it be. Being afraid makes you more likely to fail!" ❤️ And "put everything behind yourself so o my music remains, and let come what may" ❤️ That hit me hard! Also, first and last performance!? After all of that, your not going to perform again!!!

There are a wide variety of acceptable tempi. If you search this piece here on KZbin you will find the performances are all at very different tempi. This one is on the slower end, but Szeryng is a highly respected soloist and this tempo is perfectly acceptable. Your teacher or jury may be able to tell you what their expectations are in advance.

Have you followed the harmonic changes? There ear needs some time to perceive the harmonic progression. Why bother write a so detailed harmonic progression when no one would have time to enjoy it. First movement is allegro, not presto. I think that part of this music is being able to hear the subtle harmonic progression by Vivaldi.
@nellieou4 жыл бұрын
It’s not meant to be a show off presto type piece. The tempo was perfect. There are so many players these days that play pieces too quickly and it takes away from the original musicality that the composer intended.
