My wife is from Majunga :) . One day, on the way to a local village which is located about 15km from the site where they found the first “Majungasaurus”, I found a weird tibia shaped stone on the road and was thinking about bringing that in Amerca BUT my wife made fun of me suggesting that it might just be a regular white stone. I hope I didn’t toss a treasure away because it was quite heavy like a fossilized trunk. There are a lot of fossilized tree trunk there guys, especially in the west of Madagascar

I have seen a Rajasaurus narmadensis skull replica in the Indian Museum in Calcutta. This cousin of the Majungasaurus may have looked and behaved a lot like this. The Rajasaurus also had small arms and sturdy leg muscles and a short, deep skull which was crested: a conical bony projection that gave the Rajasaurus a regal appearance, as though it were wearing a crown. It's name is apt: It truly was THE KING OF THE NARMADA.

@HenrythePaleoGuy4 жыл бұрын
Considering the gap between animals like Buffalo and lions, the likelihood that Majungasaurus was able to take down sauropods like Rapetosaurus isn't too far of a reach in the slightest.
@maclarenschell88554 жыл бұрын
@@HenrythePaleoGuy I agree, and I'd guess if it were to go after a subadult or adult it'd probably have no option except to go for the neck given the size difference. I think it'd be most akin to a tiger hunting water buffalo, due to the size difference and probably solitary lifestyle
@Joakim14004 жыл бұрын
@@HenrythePaleoGuy I'm a bit sceptical of the idea that Majungasaurus could and actively hunted full-grown sauropods, but I do find it possible that they preyed on juveniles or 'sub-adult' ones. A younger sauropod could have been small enough to allow a Majungasaurus to wrap its jaws around its prey and pin it and yet strong enough to require Majungasaurus to have adaptations in its jaws against torsion
@HenrythePaleoGuy4 жыл бұрын
Fully-grown Rapetosaurus wouldn't have been impossible to hunt, but like all predators, Majungasaurus would have gone after juvenile or weakened animals as you suggest more often than fully grown animals.

I call shenanigans on those arm structures. Those look like wing mounts and pectoral plates. I dont think this could fly but it would have been able to glide, possibly even leaping from small outcrops onto prey or otherwise into combat. Even though they wouldnt have had much surface area to weight ratio their massive legs would cushion them well, being nearly half the creatures weight and all. Also, reverse cant legs absorb shock better and allow for a quicker transition to forward locomotion. Also, damn thing couldve kicked on the way down, negating the need for arm claws entirely when paired with the mouth swords. Intimidation factor wouldve been through the roof too. Hell, if i could hunt like that and was that big i might try to drop stones or dirt on prey from a ledge before leaping down to strike. Covering prey in dirt will slow them down and further cushion a hard combat landing. I think we're overlooking something here, thats all

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t carnotaurus known for having a pretty weak bite force? They were thought to repeatedly “axe” their prey with their upper jaws, because of their neck being strong and made for that sort of movement, and their skulls being too weak to kill by biting hard......right? Is that unusual in the family? I always assumed, since the family had very similarly shaped heads/necks/etc., that it was the case with the family, but is that not so? In an image u included, of the top view of a number of the family, it was easy to see how much wider Majung’s skull is than all the others, so does Majung stand out as the one in the family that’s skull is strengthened enough to be able to withstand a strong bite force?
@majungasaurusaaaa4 жыл бұрын
The whole "axing with upper jaw" is debunked fantasy. Carnotaurus and its south american relatives were very fast sprinters. They had very different builds than the east gondwana abelisaurids who were stocky ambush predators built to bite and hold.
