I bought the mild version of the Henson and I'm not sorry. Henson says the mild accounts for about 90% of their sales. Get really close shaves with it and don't need anything more aggressive. I shave every other day and think I have a fairly coarse beard but this razor does the job. Best razor I've every owned. Gave away my highly touted Rockwell, and retired my Twig razor. The handle on the Henson really surprised me with how grippy it is. I shaved under my nose and the beveled corners of the Henson made it very easy. That's always a problem area for me. At $70 I think it's a steal.

I started with a Mild AL-13 I liked it so much I bought the Ti-22 Titanium also in Mild. I will say the Ti-22 shaves a bit more aggressive than the Aluminum AL-13 It feels familiar but also better in a few ways. It's heavier which I like. It also has much deeper knurling. It's much nicer when your hands are slippery.

Henson makes the world’s best razors IMO. You get the cost savings of DE blades with a design that eliminates blade chatter & irritation, and a shave so effortless and nick free you’ve got to try it to see for yourself. Unless you have thin whiskers the medium is usually a safe bet. I have both medium & aggressive & usually use the aggressive one when I have 2-3 days growth or more, although it’s smooth enough you could probably shave with it every day, although I go with the medium when I have to shave every day.

I have always kept a cheap rotary shaver in my cabinet. I currently have a cheap Remington 3-head that runs on 120V AC current (NO batteries!). I use this cheap electric shaver to mow down my beard when I haven't shaved in a couple of days (I'm retired). After a quick "mow" the Henson AL13 gives me a VERY clean shave just using plain-old Barbasol aerosol shave cream.

Which Rockwell 6c/6s plates best correspond to the +, ++, and +++ Hensons? The blade gap measurements would indicate aggressiveness close to or even higher than the 5 or 6 plates. But due to mitigating factors like the blade angle and exposure, this is likely not true.

never tried a H, very different to what the rest does but still interesting. I’ve never understood the “aggressive” description for razors. What do you we then call a straight razor? IMO blade/skin angle, technique and the type of blade determines if its “aggressive, at least for me. I’m a daily straight shaver and find them not to be aggressive. Thank you for sharing, regards dapper shaves
@carolinabarbershop

Aggressiveness has to deal with blade gap. Think of an adjustable razor. 1, mild. 7, Aggressive. It's how that blade feels on the face. The 1 setting is noticeably smoother but may not shave as well for some. It can make it where spots need to be gone over several times. A straight can be controlled with the steel used, finishes (stones and pastes used) and angle which you hold it.

@carolinabarbershop
@carolinabarbershop 2 жыл бұрын
That's difficult to answer. Aggressive may be the answer, or it may not. We would first need to diagnose why he isn't getting the shaves he desires. It could be the blade choice, prep, who knows? That said, if it is just smooth he is after, it may be something that's not achievable. For me, two spots on my neck I cannot get smooth. It's just the way the hair grows I cannot get it smooth. For the fight and irritation I incur trying it is not worth the fight.

I’ve used Gibbs, fatboy and slim’s wide open, UK red tip with massive blade gap and shaved daily with a very sensitive skin and dense beard. since then I moved to daily straight razor shaves, dont think you’ll find a larger “blade gap” and still shave ATG. regards dapper shaves

I was into DE and even straight razors for a while, but ended up back with cartridges---got tired of the nicks! (Had fairly aggressive Merkur). I'd like to go back, and my skill level did reduce nicks eventually......BUT, I have a mole on my cheek. If I go light over it with a cartridge--no problem. Perhaps a Medium Henson could also glide over it withouth nicking (HATE those mole-nicks!)

Is the aggressive one not made of titanium? Unless they made you one out of the aircraft aluminium. As the website the aggressive is the most expensive at $321.43 CDN. I own the Medium. I would have to say that would be the side to the Rockwell 6C/S. That it has all 3 plates. I'm sure there must be a engineering reason behind HS not allowing or designing the plates interchangeable as well. That's my main question. In the North American market. With it being manufactured here in Canada (North America). With a growing ethic diversity. Different ethnicities geneticly have thinker coarse face and body hair. So my thinking is. What works for the average Caucasian/European Person. May not be assertive enough for middle eastern or African Defendant cultures.
