Love and appreciate your videos - I use a Henson with a Voskhod...best shave for me. Love the Henson - I have the mild and medium. I initially purchased the medium, but contacted Henson to see if i could return it and get the mild as it was slightly more aggressive to my liking. They told me to keep the medium and shipped me a mild free of charge. I couldn't believe that level of customer service! Great razor AND great customer service.

My Henson is my top razor. As long as I don't press too hard and take my time I tend to get a perfect shave. It is nice and mild for those times you have a blemish or a bit of razor burn show up. If I only had one razor this would be it. The Timeless AL Slant does run a close second and feels almost like the Henson but it is a little more aggressive and like you said you get more perfect shaves with the Henson. However I will say I am very impressed with Timeless. They almost came in a took the top spot. Thanks again for a great video.

Great tips for the Henson. I have the medium AL 13 and your tip about not flicking your wrist was spot on. I realized that if your shoulder head is moving up while shaving the neck ATG you aren't flicking the wrist. The mirror tells you whether your doing it right. Love your vids.

Henson was my first and still a fav. One thing I would point out about the weight. For us older guys or those with arthritis, the light weight of the Henson is a god send. Henson is a pretty innovative company with a razor that has good aesthetics. If I'm not recommending the Rockwell 6C to beginners, then I'm recommending a Henson. I did have to go to a Mild because I discovered through more shaves with other razor blades that my skin is more sensitive than I knew (even though the Medium was still quite amazing). I still think switching out the aluminum handle for something slightly heavier makes the shave even better based on what you're after, though. Still, this is an amazing razor that provides a great shave time and time again with very little maintenance and technique. You just put this thing to your face with light pressure and just shave, and that is what every beginner needs in an introduction to traditional wet shaving.

First shave with 6C, 3 plate, Gillette Pt blades with Proraso shave cream. Smooth nick-free shave. Perhaps over-thinking it, but I was very conscious to hold the right angle knowing the 6C was not as set-and-forget as the Henson, and listened to change in noise as the angle changed to set a good angle. Always used TOBS cream before - the Proraso was good but not as slick or nice smelling as TOBS. Thanks for the videos on the 6C - influenced my purchase of what seems to be a very nice 2nd DE razor, at half the price of my Henson. I found out about Henson from Joe Scott, but I became sold on them from Ohio Shaves. I got into DE shaving because of this razor and love it. Now even though I really like the Henson, it is relegated to under my nose and trimming my brows. For most of my shaving I use a Leaf razor with two blades. The third blade was doing nothing for me except waste a half of a blade. I shave my whole head and face with the Leaf and finish with the Henson. Now as far as the Henson is concerned, I tried lots of blades including Feather and Astra. I decided to stick with the blades that came with the Henson. RKs are very comfortable and not too expensive. They work great with the Henson. And now the real reason I came to this video is because I wanted to share my experience shaving with Dove soap. It works great. In fact, it seems to me to be better on my head then any of the shaving soaps or creams that I have tried. I tried a shaving brush, but my skin is too sensitive and I ended up tossing it. Thanks for all the great videos you do. They are the best shaving videos on KZbin.

Great question, but not the easiest to answer. It's a totally different set up than the Rockwell. What I have found is every manufacturer has a different type of feel on your face. Some feel silky, smooth, others have a little more blade view, and then there is some that are very aggressive on your face. The Henson Razor is for people wanting to learn technique which intern gives you a perfect achieve regardless of how many passes you may take. I had to put a plate number on it. I would say 4

Okay I finally watched all of this, the drying the tips with a towel is such a good idea, why didn't I think of it? I don't have a stand so what I've been doing is shaking it out over my shower, that way I can shake it really hard and I don't care that the shower wall gets wet lol

@@OhioShaves what I've been doing is after shaking it all out, I put the brush in the cup I have next to my toothbrush that I use to gargle, I just make sure the cup is dry and I set the brush gently down into it hair side down. That way it's not in my medicine cabinet in the dark.

I have the al13 mild but i always nick myself! I don't have this problem with the 6C on the 3 plate, zero nicks and bbs. Do you think i should exchange it for the medium? Or is it just user error applying too much pressure? Lol
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Ай бұрын
I prefer the mild over the medium myself. I would try using a different blade in the AL 13. Not every blade that works in the Rockwell Razor is going to work for me and the Henson Razor. Technique is definitely going to make a difference and applying too much pressure obviously is going to resolve in some sort of skin irritation. What do you think?

So I shaved again with my Hensen, and as I mentioned in another one of your videos, this thing doesn't glide across the skin very smooth. I went back to my chrome Rockwell. I wonder if the soap is an issue for me. When I'm in a hurry, I use shave cream from a can in the shower. What are your thoughts?
@chadbhaiyya5167
@chadbhaiyya5167 Ай бұрын
if there's a feeling of suction or dragging, try adding more water to your lather. A hydrated lather makes it much smoother
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Ай бұрын
I would try different blade. If it's not cutting smoothly, that means that the blade is not adequate for your face and hair type. What blade are you currently using? A artisan shaving soap is definitely going to be a slicker surface than shaving cream in a can. You really can't rush this process and get a perfect shave. Preparation and letting the shaving soap soften up the hairs on your face is key to getting a smooth, comfortable shave.

Last year, bought a Dr. Squatch (Green) version of the mild version. Very, very light razor. I accidentally cut myself because I didn’t have the right angle. I accidentally did and pressed too hard. SMH The tricky part of this razor is it cuts, but just doesn’t feel like it. Lol

Biggest issue I have with the AL13 mild I purchased is that I struggle to keep it at the right angle to cut the hair. Only razor I have this issue with. Second issue I have is that it’s just a bit too mild for me. If I go longer than one day growth it will take multiple passes. Unlike my Parker semi-slant single pass and done. So unless I am shaving every day I rarely use it. On a side note. Henson should allow people to buy just the more aggressive razor head instead of having to buy a whole second razor.

Are you going for a OnePass shave? Have you tried other double razor blades in the Henson because I just love the fact that I don't get the correct angle it does not cut. Great learning tool and I get more perfect shaves using this razor than anything else in my shave Den
