Her Body Was Exhumed

Ellen Organ (August 24, 1903 - February 2, 1908), known as Little Nellie of Holy God, was an Irish child, venerated by some in the Roman Catholic Church for her precocious spiritual awareness and alleged mystical life. Particularly dedicated to the Eucharist, the story of her life inspired Pope Pius X to admit young children to Holy Communion. In 1910, Pope Pius X issued the decree Quam singulari, which lowered the age of Holy Communion for children from 12 years to around 7.
She loved to visit the chapel which she called the House of Holy God, and she was fascinated by the statues and images on display, and in particular by the Stations of the Cross. When told the story of the suffering and death of Jesus she burst into tears. It is claimed that she developed a mysterious awareness of the Blessed Sacrament. One story relates how she knew a member of staff had not been to Mass that day, even though the young woman said she had. You did not get Holy God today the child said. This episode and others like it led some Catholics to believe that she had what is referred to as the mystical gift of "discernment".
Meanwhile, she began to claim to have visions. She related how she saw Christ - usually as a little child like herself - and the Virgin Mary. On a number of occasions she claimed to have seen the Infant of Prague dancing for her. Her already precocious faith was growing, and those who came to know her testified to her holiness. She so impressed the sisters they began to entertain the possibility of recommending the child for the sacrament of confirmation. Contacting the local bishop, he agreed, and she was confirmed on October 8, 1907.
After some four years of life, Ellen Organ died on February 2, 1908. Witnesses said she appeared to see something at the foot of her bed which caused her to smile and her eyes to well with tears. She followed that something with her eyes, looking overhead, when she died.
She was buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in the city of Cork. When, a year later, In 1909 her body was exhumed, it appeared unchanged from the day of her burial, with her limbs flexible and her dress and Communion veil like new.[3] Her grave in the public cemetery attracted visitors from all over Ireland, as a result of which authorisation was given for her remains to be transferred to the cemetery of the Good Shepherd Sisters.

It’s so sad when little children pass. My nephew twenty two months old passed because a nurse gave him enough potassium that would of killed a two hundred fifty pound man. His short life he went through so much. One thing about my little nephew is with everything he went through he always had a smile for you when you spoke to him. I held him after he passed and I will never forget that feeling, that sweet boy! Little Nellie sounds like she went through so much as well. Wow. Little Nellie seems to have been happier at the orphanage. Beautiful grave & buildings. With such a historical value I'm surprised the church hasn't tried to restore the building to at least a point of safety. Architecturally it's a historic building plus Nellie's story & miraculous insights makes it a church historical site. Nellie may one day become a Saint if anyone is healed.

Hi Edna the convent and building was sold to developers who are trying to build apartments and houses on the land. People are protesting against it. Alot of the women from the mother and baby home were buried in unmarked graves.

Little Nellie of Holy God became the sign that Pope Pius X was looking for to lower the age of first communion. In 1910, he issued the decree Quam singulari, which changed the age at which Communion could be received from 12 to 7 years old, the age of discretion. When people would criticize Pius X for lowering the age of reception, he simply quoted the words of Jesus, "let the little children come to me". He was her champion, and so was her bishop. They both passed away and she had no one to support her. Moving her grave from Cork to the Good Shepherd convent made it very difficult for people to visit her grave, which is locked and on private property. I believe she was a great saint, in heaven now, ready and able to intercede for those who have recourse to her. If only her grave were moved to a public place, and her story became widely known. She needs another champion. Someone to support her cause. Little Nellie of Holy God, pray for us.

Thankyou so much for this insightful video. I recently listened to a talk on dear 'Little Nellie' and the same desire stirred in my heart, re excess to her beautiful tomb. It is so sad that the land which has such historical religious significance, is in the hands of a devoloper. What a great grace and opportunity to be passed into the right hands and made accecible to the public with the reverence dear Little Nellie deserves. Let's pray and trust, that through this awareness, Little Nellie's grave, can once more be recognised as the holy ground it is. Someone else raised the same question. 'Is there a petition? Or is there the possibility her grave like before can be removed to a holy ground. It is so sad to see access to her grave overgrown and unknown, when in the past it brought flocks of people to know and love her and either be healed, or to accept their sufferings and have a deeper understanding of the true meaning and prescene of Christ in receiving Communion. Blessed Little Nellie was a living Saint and it would be a shame if her grave was left forgotten.

I had a very painful shoulder a number of years ago. It looked as though I might have to give up work. I asked Little Nellie to pray for me and the next morning I awoke with no pain and have never had it since. Praise be to God .

It’s often the case that it’s the child that for some reason or not succumbs to an awful malady and they have something different or spiritual that ignites within, and they are have both blessed and mystical effects within themselves and far further reaching. Whatever is taken away, it’s beautifully replaced by a gift or gifts that few can put into words, but know it is very special. No matter when they are born children are the future and I’ve worked with some really impoverished children in the heart of London and helped open their eyes, and know my unorthodox way of so called “play leading” (grade 5 teacher) was so rewarding. Lovely story.

People when they're about to pass or close to passing can often see the spirit of Jesus the spirit of the Virgin Mary and other things even children so yes I believe that little Nellie had seen those things and knew her destiny it's why she wanted so much to be confirmed in the church and to have the sacrament of Christ because she believes so much in him God bless you all
