Chris (guitar) sat behind me in anatomy at Rancho high school in '08. I don't remember him showing up often but I can still remember his Suicide Silence Kool-Aid man shirt like it was yesterday. I bought one of those Hello Kitty shirts from him during class. I recall a statement on MySpace from the band saying he was kicked out because he spent too much time hooking up with "raccoons" (scene girl groupies). Pretty hilarious.

Man these guys are legends in the local scene. That venue you’re talking about really was an underrated hidden gem, it was called the Nitty Gritty. A lot of death and metal core bands got to play there, Emmure, stick to your guns, arsonists get all the girls, impending doom, and a ton of local bands too.

I miss the gritty, my grandparents used to own the church that held gritty, and I miss it so much some times

Being a kid from Los Angeles county, going to heavy shows from 06 to 2010 HDMR were so awesome to watch live. I miss those deathcore days. Underneath the gun, we are the end, face your maker, so this is suffering, elixir of an alchemist, engulfs the sky, impurities, destruction of a king, Goliath

I was actually fortunate enough to run into them at warped tour. At the time I was pretty crushed to find out they weren’t playing. This was the Stlouis date if I remember right. Only Jake and Coco were remaining at the time they said their drummer left. They didn’t tell me about the tour letting them down. I feel really bad for them. Like you said, they were sooo close.

I just noticed that breakdown in the compulsive and compelled song off summer sessions ep sounds exactly like young, rich and out of control by Emmure, except it’s slower tempo. If it’s from 2007 HDMR did it first 😮

Whoever did it first is up for debate but one thing is for sure. That riff is badass

I wonder what happened to the "no exits" intro or i think thats what it was called. it was the "whos afraid of the dark" song that they did at the beginning of the show when they played at zombie fest 2007. it was an actual recorded song and was only on MySpace for a short amount of time and then it disappeared and was never heard from or talked about again.

I first got into these guys in 07’ when honor among thieves came out. And me and a friend were the only ones bumping these guys at school becuz no knew them. Stay strong went so freaking hard. But… alas….. after Cameron left it just wasn’t the same. His vocals gave HDMR the image it had. And the dude that replaced him just didn’t have it. And basically the direction they went in with The Takeover just didn’t do it for me. And once I saw that they had t mills 🤮 on there too 🤦♂️ . I did listen to it a couple times and also didn’t like that they butchered stay strong. Idk it just seemed they went with the whole crabcore thing. And from what I heard coco let some of the spotlight and aromas of being around bigger groups and all that comes with it go to his head. You should’ve mentioned they’re break up statement they made when they made it official. I still remember it. Well not verbatim but they did say “our fans just aren’t there anymore”. And i still remember in the comment of the post someone commented “you guys did this to yourselves, t mills isn’t true HDMR”. No joke. I still remember that. Anyways thanks for the vid man I’m glad I found you. And thanks for covering a band no one really talks about. It really brought me back. I wish I could’ve gotten one of the hello kitty band shirts they had back then. ❤

Honestly the Nitty Gritty sucked. Saw a thirty year old man run directly to a fifteen year old just to punch him in the jaw. Dude wasn't even there apart of the scene or looked the part. Watched one of the gangs there jump a kid all around the room and grabbing the church chairs to throw and beat him with. Venue was terrible.
