I thought from the beginning Carla’ client looked great with her head shaved, but I understood her reluctance for not sporting a bald head. Last year 2/21 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and by 6/21 I was completely bald. For some reason it didn’t bother me like I thought it would and people who didn’t know me complimented my bald head. I’m an earring addict so I rocked it. Now I’m wearing a 2-1/2” TWA, and wanting to go back to my bald head!

I suffered with some hair loss in my crown. After a few dermatology treatments from my general practitioner/family doctor, I decided to save up and go and see a black female trichologist. (No steroid injections!) She treated me non-invasively and my scalp started to get better in 2 weeks and the hair grew back in 12 weeks. I've been following her recommendations for 3 years from February 2019 to now April 2022 and my hair has grown back in thickness. She diagnosed me with a sensitive scalp and scalp inflammation. I go to the trichologist's clinic at least twice a year to ensure I'm staying on track with my scalp and hair care. Here were her recommendations for me. 1. Reduce stress. I exercise regularly - yoga, personal trainer, soccer, walking and cycling and swimming. I also have been to therapy and use various therapy skills and techniques to relax and reduce my stress. 2. Take supplements. I took hair vitamins for 12 months. Now I take a daily multivitamin and from time to time extra iron, B complex, magnesium and vitamin D. 3. Get a full blood panel done to check for anaemia, thyroid, hormonal and insulin problems. 4. No more box braids, cornrows, or ponytails with or without extension hair. 5. Only wear wigs 1-4 a month and no longer than 24 hours. Best practice is not to sleep in the wig. 6. No more sew in weaves. 7. No wig glue or hair glue. I wear clip ins, wig grips or wig fix silicone band or attach with booby pins which I remove when I get home before bed. Occasionally maybe 4 times a year I wear the Got2Be gel or spray as it's less harsh than actual wig adhesive/wig/hair glue. I always take it off before bed and cleanse and moisturise the area after. 8. Wear satin or silk scarfs to protect your hair from the elements and also rubbing on your clothing and cotton pillowcases and sheets. I wear scarves to work regularly. No one has asked why. If they did I would tell them it's for religious and medical reasons. It protects my hair and scalp which is medical reason enough for me. 9. shampoo and deep condition with a hot towel weekly 10. apply topical scalp treatment mist or gel ( not oil or butter)and leave-in conditioner daily and steam with a hot towel. I don't use raw oils and butter on my hair or scalp because I appear to be slightly allergic. I also don't need my follicles clogged or irritated if I'm going to be using it daily. I am a thalassemia carrier and I was taking birth control and anti-depressants. So any blood disorders or medication can affect your hair. However, by following the trichologist's recommendations consistently and doing some scalp massage daily, no one can tell I have hair loss. I'm 40 and when I do choose to wear my natural hair out, when the weather is mild and medium humidity, I get lots of compliments on how high density/thick, shiny and defined it is. I have all my edges and no bald spots which is better than my mother when she was my age.

It takes 6 months to a year to see results. I had a lot of inflammation on my scalp. This stunted my hair growth and wasn't alopecia. It looked like alopecia. There was no scalp scarring or closed follicles. The dermatologist confirmed this from skin samples and microscope pics. The anti-inflammatory topical meds got rid of the problem. No meds in 6 months. My hair is thicker longer and no thinning or balding areas. Betamethasone and 5% Minoxidil were my topical meds. I didn't get unwanted hair growth in other areas as a side effect either. Sorry for the late edit......

@@fajobifolukee5059 wow sorry, I went to a specialist in Nashville and had a total of 4 services in 4 months so once a month and my hair started growing back immediately, I was told to take drops but I chose not to, instead after the initial growth… I realized I needed to work on my gut health, I started eating way better and exercising and now I only drink water 99.9% of the time, the picture in my bubble was about a year after i started all of that. This is just my story cause I am an advocate for modern medicine but I hope everything works out for you.

The hair dresser did a great job. Her is beautiful. I just pray she don’t give up on her natural hair. My hair came out on top. I was blessed to have patience and continue to put oils on my scalp. I also messaged them into my scalp. I were wigs and different weave. In the mean time. It took years of doing this and my hair is finally growing back and getting length. So don’t give up. God bless you both. In Jesus Christ name.

Just a food for thought, the Lord says that he will smite the daughters of zion with baldness. Mainly because to summarise we aren't appreciative with what we have, our hair is the most versatile it's beautiful. We need to start loving and taking care of our natural hair treat it well and ladies we will all see the difference. Some of us has health issues however depending we're we are, seeking assistance applying healthier lifestyle mixing with consistent good hair regiment. My hair was thinning too wearing alot of weaves, noticing bald spots. Then I decided to start taking care of my hair deep condition every week, oiling of scalp, scalp massages and using natural hair masks for deep conditioning. This lady is very beautiful hopefully she will do the right thing, love and start caring for her scalp and hair.

I really love the fact that you made it look realistic. Even the baby hairs are not coming all the way down to her forehead. Thanks for sharing.. and it just makes me angry that us as black women.. it doesn't matter what type of doctor we go to... It just seems like they don't take us serious and I just wonder if it's because they really don't know what to do when it comes to treating us and our issues.. But thanks for all you do to help black women look even more beautiful, than what we already are. 🥰

I think it is the same with most women of all races. It doesnt matter, doctors are highly educated, and very intelligent. Sometimes that makes them arrogant and unsympathetic. My advice is to keep trying until you find a good one. Ive been to many insulting or uncaring doctors but I have found some good ones too.
