I was waiting for some sort of scene where she would find Mimo was her granddaughter and just imagine if she was dying (the grandmother) and the realisation would be sinking in... the drama 🤯

A lot of people did mention tho, that when the friend asked momi if the child was Nathan's she never confirmed or denied. Now ik silence in these type of situations can be a 'yes' but it does get me thinking, it's easy to assume, like the friend that the child is Nathan's and we keep waiting for the mom to have this grand realisation but it never comes like why would momi not use that card to save her child's life? Unless she was never Nathan's child?

If you think about it…mask girl was not a serial killer. She didn’t kill the first guy, he stumbled trying to attack Mo Me and he hurt himself! Nathan is the one who stabbed him and killed him. The second guy, Nathan, was a monster and raped her! She was defending herself! Breaks my heart for mi Mo!!

Yeah so she killed two guys , the second one her and her friend when they choke him. In her mind tho, she killed two more (total 4) , the first guy and the rapist’s mom . So killing two ppl doesn’t consider serial killer. What was she convicted of tho? Which crime?

Yeah the netflix version was heavily tweaked. In the comic she's much more of a brazen and intentional murderer. But in the drama she's much more a victim of circumstance.

"I just want to be loved" hits so much harder because she gives the ultimate sacrifice to her daughter making sure she knows SHE was loved at the very least even when Momi herself never got to truly experience that. It's beautiful but also very sad. It's a powerful message because Momi in the end did get to see that her own mother loved her daughter at least and was there for her right before she herself makes the same sacrifice.

Spoiler alert : 1. I wish the grandma has found out that she’s her actual grandkid 2. After all momi ( the mask girl ) went through, we literally watched her form when she’s a kid to adult to being a mom, all she gone through, all her life experiences and when it end the ending show her kid watching her younger : Where she was asked what’s her dream was ? And the young versioning of mask girl just said “ my dream is to be loved by everyone “ . This tear me down! It’s like a summarize going back how at the beginning she’s just wanted to be loved ! But because of society agenda and many other reasons just turn her life into what we know as mask girl! I cry so hard after that ending clip it’s a masterpiece for me

What I find sad, amongst many things in this show, was that Karen when Nathan was alive wanted him to care for her and show her the same affection as other mothers - When Mo Mi tells her she wants to work so she can live a long life and take care of her, Karen never realises this's her grandchild and that this's her sole family wanting to provide for her the way she's always wanted.

I love how everyone had flaws, because originally in K-dramas there’s always a character that’s perfect. That’s either a goofball, and they fall in love with the rich guy, or it ends up in a very cliché ending, but this was perfect, because everyone not only everyone had flaws, but also had struggles of their own. We’re all human, I love the ending and I love the show.

I stand with Momi & Mimo. All she wanted was a chance to raises her daughter differently. And in a way she showed her that by sacrificing herself for mimo to be free and happy. Momi accomplished that in the end. Broke the generational curse and made up with her mother And protected her daughter that was spectacular ending.❤❤❤❤

I really hope the show win an award. It has parasite vibe and the cinematic filming and editing was more than chef kiss. I only had a complain that I wish Nathan’s mom realized she was trying to kill her own grandchild. It would be a roller coaster of emotion the actress had to portray, which by all means, she was amazing, especially when she had to identify her son’s body.

I totally agree with the sentiment that the story is not about her chasing beauty. She had it already but the problems were still there. I feel like it was more about systematic traumatization through stigma and the rippling downfall that comes with it. Every domino led to an even more explosive effect because of unearned shame and the festering of trauma. Very eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

This story is insane, I love it. Steph does such a good telling of it too. The best way to consume a narrative is being told it IMO, it's casual enough that you feel at ease so you can get into the imaginative mindspace but directed enough to keep you sucked in to the actual narrative.

This show was so good. It really showed archetypes of mothers that I personally never seen before in media, especially Asian mothers. Like we all know the moms that praise their sons like gods, and those who take their disdain out of their lives simply because their daughters weren’t born beautiful. We also know the moms who are trying, but growing up in a harsh environment simply makes it impossible to ever be ideal even with change and forgiveness. It was so addicting lol

rapists mom didnt know her son at all as a person or even aknowledged his existence, she didnt know what he liked to do, what he enjoyed in life. she didnt even saw him really. you cant love someone you dont even recognize. so his mom "loved" herself in her son, not him. and this "love" wasnt unconditional, it was obsessive and unhealthy. based on her egocentric ego, how she sacrificed everything in her life to raise him and give him better future, therefore the son owns her efforts back.

I have a theory about why Mimo was doing the choking herself thing and saying she is Mask Girl-- its because she knows nothing about her mother except that she was Mask Girl. Her grandma never told her anything else so it may have been the only way for her to feel in any way connected to her mother. Also kids are weird and do weird shit loll. I think the story is tragic but compelling because the coldness if the characters matches the coldness of reality. When Eleanor told her cronies to just fake the picture of Mimo instead of genuinely wanting to help Momi pissed me off. People just wanted to use Momi for whatever they wanted, without regard to Momi as a person. She wasnt able to be what people wanted and wasnt loved because she was not conventionally attractive but also even if she was conventionally attractive and loved you have to wonder if it is simply because shes attractive. All the men in the show dehumanized the women; Handsome Monk, Nathan, boss guy, Cynthia's live in moocher they never saw anything past what they wanted to gain from the women. Cynthia was kind and her kindness was taken advantage of I honestly worried something horrible would happen to her doggo. The theme of dehumanization continued with Karen. She didnt see her son as a whole person she loved him so hard but it was a possessive obsessive love, all she saw was he is her son and so he is hers. If she actually loved her son as much as she claimed she would have investigated the injuries he received in school, would have tried to find out if he is okay. She saw herself as a loving mother and a righteous Christian but she was really completely hypocritical. Thinking God would help her kill the murderer of her son--ugh. It comes down to image and dehumanization And its so sad about Mimo because she was conventionally a cute kid but the pain she faced was image based again when people learned her mother was Mask girl they turned against her because of the assumptions they made about her. Yetty was probably the only person who really sought to know Mimo as a person. I'm glad she was able to stay with Yetty and her wholesome family but that girl will DEFINITELY need sooooo much therapy for all the trauma she went through. Also Mimos real grandmother ended up being my favorite character despite coming off so cold originally haha

This show has many themes: The bias that brings along being ugly or pretty. The toxic relationship The sexual violence The bias created by the police Victim blaming The stigma that the killer's children are subjected to.

You're a wonderful story teller. I was crying at the end of that very complicated tale. You might want to find a new sidekick. . . He refused to watch the show, but worse, he wasn't even paying attention to your telling of the story well enough to keep up with the plot.

I'd really love to see Stephanie do a video on two Turkish drama films called Ayla, and Miracle in Cell no 7. The film Ayla is a South Korean-Turkish drama based on a true story during the Korean War, meanwhile The Miracle in Cell no 7 is an adaptation of a South Korean comedy-drama film with the same name, but vastly different from the original as the Turkish version has significant changes in the story, characters and tone that pulls on the heartstrings. They're both sad movies, but they're absolutely a must-watch in my opinion

Wait, miracle in cell no 7 south korea ver is comedy??!!! I watched that movie years ago. So good, and I remembered me and all my mates were crying our eyes out, it was so heart-wrenching, I don't dare watching it again. Guess the only memory I have left of that movie is how sad it is, no comedy whatsoever 🥲

@@bijjjjj yeah the Turkish version changed a lot of things, they took the comedy out. The original, the South Korean comedy-drama came out in 2013, the Turkish version came out in 2019. They have the same name, but like I said, they changed the story, characters and the tone a lot in the Turkish adaptation

I think the reason she beat minion 1 is bcs minion 1 is the leader/main aggressor of the three brawn. She can't touch the Queen so to show dominance, she go after minion 1. She sending the message to other prisoners that if the trio afraid of her, nobody can get to her.

This would make for a great Movie. I think the characters played a huge part in showing us who they really were and how the world can almost mold us into something different. I think it's a story where you can relate to the characters in so many different ways. If I saw this as a movie it would hit home to me cause I am invested in the characters and even tho you would hate some of those characters they come back at you with their true hearts.

I can see how some people would oversimplify the drama as MoMi just “chasing pretty” because they’ve never gone through a situation where their appearance may have been so heavily dragged on or commented on. MoMi was confident with the idea of being a star and she was comfortable with herself but she wasn’t allowed to and was shamed for not acting the way she looked but her appearance was never an issue for her, it was everyone else that was making it an issue and letting her know. Ik that in Korea, appearances are everything and America is seen as the place where everyone can shine but even here, appearance plays such a huge role for everyone who isn’t conventionally attractive too. I know firsthand about that and required years of self healing. And if you think pretty privilege doesn’t exist, it’s because you are part of that group. When you’re pretty you just struggle in different ways like being objectified and se***lized but people are nicer to you and anything you do is seen as endearing or charming while on the other hand when you’re seen as “ugly” you’re annoying, an inconvenience, you’re bullied and told your place and people are so mean to you. I just want to say that I chase being the prettiest version I can possibly accomplish of myself not for the sake of being pretty or even to please others but just to be treated nicely, like a person and MoMi, if she was chasing pretty it was possibly for the same reason. We just want to shine or be loved or not deal with people being cruel because we don’t fit their standard even when we’re just minding our business not doing anything. It’s never something as simple as just “chasing pretty” and that’s why MoMi’s life was so sad because she was just a kid that wanted to sparkle and be loved/admired but died being being scared of and hated as if living her life as the “ugly person” and later assaulted wasn’t enough.
