+Stef Sanjati Yeah, alot of the stuff out there about trans people seems glamorized and gives a false image. I think there needs to be more realistic looks into the lives of trans people and maybe that can kill some of the bias and ignorance.

Sharkie SVK We all have our prejudices and phobias (even small ones) just being a minority does not make one able to see past their own issues nor stop some from being prejudiced themselves. Shows like this will help open some eyes and minds to what a lot don't see.

@0ctaviaPony 8 жыл бұрын
+Sharkie SVK TERFs are the worst and there are a scary number of them. Theyve set back trans rights by a lot more than youd think. One of the more prolific TERFs, Janice Raymond, actually was responsible for how hellish it is to get trans medical coverage. She made it so trans health care was no longer considered 'medically necessary' by the government.

+Octavia Philharmonica This goes a long way back... the problem is that transpeople have decided to respond to fear and ignorance with hate and emotional violence, which has just escalated on both sides. Its time for transwomen to do what women everywhere do. Bind wounds, bring love, heal hurts, and nurse the wounded. We need to be bigger, more loving, more compassionate, more forgiving... because that's what it will take to move the frightened and ignorant. We are the solution, not the problem. Its time we owned our power as women, and took full responsibility for our world. You can be victimized, but nobody can make you a victim, nobody can rob you of your humanity. We are better than that.
@anituska23
@anituska23 8 жыл бұрын
+Octavia Philharmonica I have just read into that... she is just a sad person full of hatred. I am a lesbian, I have never been personally judged but if you have a brain and a HEART, it is easy to get inside someone else's body and understand what they are going through. I completely get it if someone wants to transition, and since being in the 21st century, where it is a bit easier to do so with our medical progress, why would anyone want to be the person to stop another person to do so!!! Just not right... but then again, I am maybe different than another lesbian :/ and I stand up for anyone who feels ''beaten'' and stand up against people like Janice Raymond.

+isabelle happyfeet Education like this is important. It helps those who have never struggled with this understand. Not everyone can be blessed with knowing a Trans Person. Some people never see what Hateful comments have on Trans People, they don't see that they are being bigoted. They don't understand that if you don't "Pass" well, what kind of EXTRA discrimination you can face. Plus it helps show women, "Hey! Look at this awesome you are missing out on!"

+isabelle happy feet Well said. As a cis-male, but a member of the LGBTQ community, I love what this show represents for cis-people. An entertaining look at what it’s like to be trans. Emphasis on entertainment, because that’s what people are most after. It’s so much easier to educate someone while they’re being entertained. Kudos to you for watching. I’m eager to see more and more cis-people doing the same!

+Joslyn Stricklin Paige is now both my Carrie Washington and Morgan Freeman... and no its not fair (lol). I love her power, her strength, she could have died when she was 14 locked out of her parents house, and been turned away from a women's shelter. You know she put herself through law school and didn't get to practice law until she was 25, how many tables did she have to wait to get there... I have a good friend, Vicky Kolakowski, she's the first municipal judge in the country who's trans. She also an ordained minister and stood at the pulpit of an MCC Church for a number of years. I don't know how many transwomen owe their lives to her intelligence, generosity or compassion, but we've been misrepresented, and nobody is talking to us about the truth. A show like this is a breath of fresh air. I see Jamie Clayton in Sense8 or Lana Wachowski who produced it, or any of a dozen other, strong, independent, transwomen, setting the bar incredibly high, and saying we are here, we won't be ignored, we won't back down, and we won't just go away. You can't call us men, because we are not men. We may not have had a very good start in what is a hard and dangerous world, but we will not accommodate the comfort of CIS People by not existing. We are brilliant, we are valuable, we are worthwhile.

Oh man, just finished the whole season. Very cool story. That whole heart-to-heart where Vi wonders if her liking a woman makes her less of one blew my mind. I hadn't even considered that trans identity could be so deeply affected by traditional gender stereotypes and physical comparisons with cis same-gender partners (that scene on ep 2 was eye-opening too!). Thanks for making this, it challenged me to think more about these issues.
@annemarietobias
@annemarietobias 8 жыл бұрын
+CraftyJane It's even worse, because on the one hand, a lot of transwomen are feminists and interested in tearing down strict gender roles which at the heart of forcing men and women to behave in ways that don't honor their humanity, on the other hand we are trying to be perceived as the women we claim to be. Society at large and even the people in our lives have an expectation of us "Femming it Up". I can't tell you how many of my girl friends want me to wear more make up or more feminine clothing... and I reply I'm dressed just like you, why would you expect me to dress "more feminine" and they reply "I'm a tomboy..." and I say "so I can't be a tomboy too?" Its all so funny. So many presumptions and prejudices come popping out of the woodwork. Talking to a Radical Feminist, about being a woman. She say's you don't have a womb and ovaries so you can't be a woman. And I say, what would you say to a man who tells a woman who's had a hysterectomy, that because she no longer has a womb or ovaries that she's therefore no longer a real woman. She stops. She get's angry. I say my lack of reproductive organs make me no less a woman than any other woman who's had a hysterectomy, because a woman isn't her ability to breed or bleed. This is generally where the conversation get's angry. Its not fair to argue this in rational terms. Its not a rational argument. These are about strong unexamined feelings, internalized prejudices. This about beliefs, and fact and beliefs can live in the same space and never even see one another. We all have some growing up to do.

I have that struggle. As someone who's both bi and trans, I worry that being in a relationship with a woman makes it easier to get "clocked" or outed for being trans. I also relate to episode two (i think?), where she feels like more of a woman when she's with a man. These are definitely real issues.

Well, don't tell them trans women helped create the technology we use today. Sisters Lynn Conway and Sophie Wilson helped create the technology we get for our gaming consoles, smartphones, tablets, and broadband services. Not an individualistic effort as it was a collaborative one but the effort from them is remarkable and goes to show that they can do a great job. Also, I wish nothing but good luck for those two women.

I loved this because I learned more about what it's like to be transgender. I think it's important to try and understand people's life experiences. This also had a lot of representation of different situations in real life. We had the daily life struggles of being trans, and the hesitation that comes with liking someone who you think makes you seem like less of (insert gender) or that doesn't always feel like it matches the label you identify with. We also saw how other LGBT+ people can be unaccepting of other genders or sexualities they don't understand. People can tend to think that just because someone is gay or bisexual or whatever else they will support every other situation with different sexualities or genders. Not saying all people are like that, but that this shows how people can have transphobia whether they're gay or straight or any other sexuality or gender. Idk I just feel very empowered from Paige and this series. Also today as a polyromantic person (or whatever I am I'm still figuring it out)I felt better seeing that other people like me tend to lean toward a certain gender even though they still identify as pan or poly. I just know the feeling when you can relate to a situation like your own, and for people who can relate to this, I'm glad that you have a community that understands you. I'm also glad that I got to learn more about this and I'm so happy you exist keep going strong❤

Cute story. As a old lesbian, I don't see how we can afford to discriminate against anyone given where we have been. Good work

Not sure if I'm the right demographic for this being a middle-aged straight guy, but I honestly thought this was one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Congratulations to the actors, writers & the whole crew on a fabulous job. Thank you.

After watching this webseries, I realized how little I knew about transgender people. For my English class, I am required to write a 30-50 page essay about a subject of my choice and I have decided to do it on transgender people. Not only about the surgery or changing part but also of how trans people are emotionally effected and how they are treated by society. If anybody has any comments or hints to help me out, it would be much appreciated, thanks :D

yes please, rn i am working on getting an interview with someone who is an expert such as a physiologist who helps transgender ppl or maybe an activist group that fights for rights for transgender ppl such as the transgender law center Damy

lok-yui chan I think that's a great idea! Concerning the physiologist though: Please keep in mind that not all trans people want to transition medically, and there are some that can't due to not having the money/an insurance that is willing to pay, and that after all, every part of a person's transition can be very difficult depending on the circumstances (for example, the law concerning trans people here in Germany is outdated and I, as a non-binary trans person, don't exist according to German law). There are many "professionals" who don't know how to treat transgender people and may be just as biased as the population in general (telling them it's just a phase, it must be because something was wrong with their childhood, requiring them to hate their genitals, to be "ultra feminine" and heterosexual to acknowledge they're trans women, and so on). Sorry, this turned out way too long. Is there anything in particular you want to focus on? I'm always here to answer any questions :)

Damy Well, before planning the interview, I have already done a lot of background information research (5 pages). The only thing that I am concerned about is that most of my information have only to do with the United States so all my statistics and information are only about those in the United States. After the interview, I plan to focus more on statistics in other (2nd or 3rd world) countries that may or may not be more accepting towards transgender people. Since you're from Germany, do you maybe have any links/sources that you can recommend to me?

If I was you... don't search for a psychologist... but for a transgender person styding psycholgy or something like that. Because not every "so called specialist" actually understands what transgender actually is (I've met a few of them). In the Netherlands there's Thomas Wormgoor who's himself a transguy, but also working in the gender-clinic as one of the psychologists, per exemple ;) And read and watch a hella lot of things made by transgender people.
