Yeah, I've become very disillusioned with big, powerful bikes in recent years. I think 125 to 650 is the best span of sizes for bikes unless your into 2 up touring. My personal sweet spot is around 500. Enough power to progress, light enough to manage, can use all the power on every ride but has the best performance between 20 and 60, just where the speed limits are. Amazing that.
@johnburgess55343 жыл бұрын
Great review. My Cb500fa for touring, Worx 125 for local rides and town suit me. I have the best of both worlds. 62 years in the saddle and despite 27 makes and models of bikes I've found my ideal combination. No, not a sidecar combination. Just cancelled my subscription to two biking mags as they concentrate on tall, powerful thirsty bikes to which I no longer relate. I can't see the point of 130, 140 mph when you can't use all that power. Still, at 79 yrs old I don't want a bike that goes faster than I can THINK. Happy riding in the New Year. JB of Gosport.

In today’s market, global manufacturing is to be expected. The real question a buyer needs to consider is the overall QC of the finished product. I’m old enough to remember when bikes from Japan were thought of as “suspect” quality, and we certainly don’t think that way now 😉. I always get a chuckle when you point out frame welds that are a bit dodgy because I can remember the Spanish bikes of the 70’s looking like the frames were held together with a series of “warts” and not welds 😆. The first time I saw a Rickman frame I couldn’t take my eyes of the welds, a true work of art 🤩.
@TheMissendenFlyer3 жыл бұрын
Yes there's no doubt welding quality does vary on bikes - even on this single bike it goes from cool on the exhaust to hideous on the frame.....

Good to see small companies starting to make bikes again in the UK. It seems well sorted for a 125 though I can't understand why the EU haven't made ABS compulsory on this type of bike. I get that putting it on adds cost but as the target riders are learners so at more risk it just doesn't make sense to me at all.
@spotty_cat263 жыл бұрын
What a cracking little bike! It would be great if they made a 250cc version. Definitely good for a few green lanes. Assembled in the UK is becoming a thing nowadays, and why not? Engines and frames are made in China for many other top brand bikes. I imagine it allows UK pruducers to compete with Chinese bikes, which is a good thing. Edit. I've just googled Brat 250 and it comes out in March 2021. Get on to Herald and book a test drive for a review please Andy.

Great video. I took my UK motorcycle test on a Triumph Tiger Cub 250 in 1981. Also a simple single cylinder bike. This seems to be a big improvement: more speed, better brakes, less vibration. Herald seems to be coming a bit late to the party with petrol engines expected to be banned in 2030. I can’t help but think e-bikes are the way to go. I’m riding rented 125cc bikes in Vietnam and they are surprisingly competent - even to the point of carrying 2 passemgers with luggage over mountain passes.

Lovely looking 125 TMF, will be interesting to see your review on the Brat 500. had one of this piece of scrap under the name of "Minsk SCR 250" (with 250 cc engine though). "Made in Belarus" they said. but this "made in" was just re-assembling Fuego Scrambler 250 made in China and partly disassembled before shipping to Belarus. This is exactly the same "made in England"... My was anaemic with 250cc, this one should be slow up to "unsafe on the roads"... The only bright side of this bike is an exhaust pipe. 125cc bikes really are loads of fun. My first bike was a Honda XL125 back in the early 80’s. That was such a laugh to ride. Yes it did look quite tall for any shorter rider to cope with at the lights etc. Hope Mrs Flyer finds a bike which will help build up her hours and confidence. Is the smaller Royal Enfield single CBT compliant? Maybe that would be a good way to go as it looks like it has a pretty low seat height. I sure as hell hope that custom can is lacquered or treated in some way otherwise those welds are going to be seeds for oxidisation sites. For those that don't know, colouration from heat on stainless steel is damage to the chrome layer that gives the stainless steel its corrosion/rust resistance, hence, the colouration on the can is at risk of rusting specifically where the welds are. Those welds should be pickled and passivated. Source: I weld stainless and stainless variants for the biopharmaceutical industry.

Really interested to find out how you got on with this bike in the long run? Torn between this or a Sinnis Terrain for my 20 mile commute

Hello, just bought this bike in Germany - Zipp Scrambler 125 - for only 2650 Euros...What a bargain !! Did you experience any major problems until today with it? Quality issues? Thanks and best regards from bavaria Andy

No I didn't have any issues during the period I had the bike - great fun machine, enjoy!

Great looking bike, the brute sounds interesting as well. These sort of bikes must be a dream to commute and filter on 👍

Looking foreword to your review of the "Brute", can you actually buy one yet? I sat on one at 2018 NEC bike show,looked like a budget CCM and that's not a criticism.

What a cool bike, it's like an XSR700 / 900 front end meets Z900RS back end. Smiles for miles for little money, a winner indeed. Thanks TMF, really enjoyed that one.

3 grand for that or 3 grand for zontes G1. The G1 is full power LC, bosch abs and EFI. Rim spoked wheels like a BMW, alloy swing arm. Comes with crash bars and bung. Euro 5. If you can get a ride you won't be disappointed.

Couple of things. Do you know what 125 your getting for Mrs Flyer? And completely different, crash helmets. I have a couple, a everyday one and my high days and holidays one. Being a VR46 fan there both AGV. Although I've watched your review on helmets, if you could only have 2 helmets what would you have? Great channel and Happy New Year

"It's a single, but very few vibrations".... You need a proper single for that, one that communicates with the rider through the chassis!👍

Great review as usual. I can’t help wondering though, which manufactures are now producing twenty grand bikes without a fuel gauge?

I prefer a petcock with a reserve fuel setting. I wish more cycles had them. In the interest of getting on well with others, it would be ideal if motorcycles had both a petcock with a reserve setting and a fuel gauge.

Fab video, I've a question. Engines that these bikes are mainly derived from older Japanese models like Honda or Suzuki, would u know if this engine is derived from a Japanese oldie? Same question for the brute pls. Tks. Fab stuff ☺

Yes apparently it is (as I said in the video) but I'm not sure which one....not sure it is actually a Suzuki based unit as I stated....

Hi TMF. I've been waiting for your winter update on this bike as I'm hoping to be getting the euro 5 edition. Did you encounter any problems? Thanks.

No update I'm afraid - had to send it back as too tall for Mrs Flyer to ride!

Nice video Andy, how does this compare to the mutt you reviewed a few years ago and will this be the bike Mrs TMF learns on?
@TheMissendenFlyer3 жыл бұрын
It feels much bigger and more solid than the Mutt (better built)....the intention was for Mrs Flyer to ride it but it’s too tall for her - her feet don’t touch the ground - so sadly we had to send it back and think again!
@5tevieb9543 жыл бұрын
@@TheMissendenFlyer I’m only 5”5 so think I might struggle as well and perhaps might be better off with a mutt or CBR maybe (new one looks cool)
