@Herb Alpert when I was only 10 years old back in 1982, I was in Saudi Arabia and listening to music on the radio but I didn't know that Route 101 was played by you, so it just appeared on KZbin by recommending I guess because I search jazz music a lot. So this comes up and then I knew who played this beautiful music and I start searching for you and found it easily on FB, I am so glad to see you that you are still alive and playing music.

Singing on Route 101 at A & M Studio with the amazing Herb Albert producing, standing next to me, was one of the great moments of my career. It was one of the first albums I sang on when I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles two year prior. Mary Hylan sang with me and at the time Mary & I were both part of Clare Fischer's 2+2 that just received a Grammy nomination, a few years later we won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Group Performance.Route 101 is such a classic. I still love hearing it, especially driving on Route 101 from Los Angeles up the California coast. No better soundtrack for that experience. Thanks Herb.

My daughter and her 3 girlfriends started playing stringed instruments at an early age. When they got to highs chook as freshmen they initiated a string quartet. Their music teacher was a band man and really had no idea how to proceed with a group of violinists, cellists, and violists. His instrument was the trumpet. I asked if he knew Route 101..and no, he did not. 4 months later my wife and I were at the final performance of the year. Upon finishing the pieces, he took the microphone and announced they had one surprize piece. He turned to the students in his charge and they played Route 101 on strings with he playing the trumpet. ..it was to perfection. I loved it as did everyone in the audience. It has become a tradition as he is still teaching and performing. .great piece....love it everytime I hear it ..you see, I lived right above PCH in Capistrano Beach

Keith, mind if I butt in here? As Renee said, peace be unto your dad -- I'm sure it is peaceful with him. My comment about your memory is that I had a dear, dear "best" friend, Ron, who just passed away Christmas 2016 and this song reminds me of him as we would tool down Highway 101 in California on our way to Big Sur and farther ... whenever I'm feeling down or "nowhere", I play this and get taken away -- swept up in 1983 on 101 again. And, as you remember your precious dad, I remember my precious friend, Ronald. God bless you and keep you too.

Louise McCarthy Gosh, I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my brother Ron who also lived in the Sacramento area back in June 2016. I'd begged him to stop smoking. Just four months prior to his lung cancer diagnosis, our cousin passed from the exact same thing. I'd begged her too. I am a former smoker. My best friend since 7th grade is on oxygen due to COPD.....sorry...didn't mean to get so detailed. I remember this song as well but never knew the title. Jimmy Fallon was talking about it on his show tonight so had to come looking. Again, condolences to you, Louise

This video exemplifies the immense talent of Herb Alpert. As a young child I enjoyed his bright virtuosity coming into my home through both the radio and my parent's LP's. Every song with The Tijuana Brass stimulated my heart and soul. Moving forward Herb's music is always relevant. Regardless of genre Alpert's tone, timing, voicing and melodies knock it out of the park. He is one of those rare musicians that conceptualize ad execute music in real time. Herb Alpert's music is always noteworthy.

This song has to be one of Herb's best songs. Back in the early 60's laying in the panel behind the rear seats and under the back glass with my portable record player in my mom's white Ford Galaxy 500. It needed 4 "D" batteries and would play albums and 45's. I had the "Taste Of Honey" album and would play the whole thing from Bellflower, Ca. to Playa Del Rey. I always got a kick from the horns in "Tijuana Taxi"! Those were the good ol' days!

But it also reminds me of when I worked in the valley, driving to work at Warner Bros. and passing the A&M lot on La Brea.

I remember this song being played at the start of one of the PGA tournaments in the late sixties(?) but can't remember which one. Truly a great tune. One of many from Mr. Alpert!

Definitely a feel good song rather then a message behind it. Makes you want to drive along the coast in a convertible down and crank up the radio.
