Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass was the band that inspired me as a Pennsylvania farm boy to become a musician. Up to that point there were no musicians in my family. I have since played music through Europe, the eastern and western United States. Thank you Herb Alpert and your band members for your inspiration. I am very grateful.

Great for you. I started playing the trumpet in the 5th grade, maybe 4 years before the T.J.B. surfaced. But when I heard his style, he and Hugh Masekela have inspired me to continue playing to my current young age of 74..

I think he’s one of the coolest musicians out there. Although I normally play guitar and sing professionally, I love playing all of his songs on my trumpet. I’ve listened to him since the ‘60’s and just saw him perform in 2023. He’s still the coolest. 😊

Ah the childhood memories come rushing back , even though I am in my 60's. My mother loved Herb Alpert and TJ Brass. She played his albums all the time when I was a kid. Just yesterday I was playing my "Whipped Cream And Other Delights" LP. How can we listen to this music and not get a big smile on our face? I miss music the way we had it back in the '60s in the U.S. Our local AM stations would play a great mix of artists, from Herb Alpert and Frank Sinatra to The Beatles and The Beach Boys.

That's so true. AM Top 40 radio included everything. In 1969, first year I started listening to the radio, the Top 40 had Pop music, of course, and variations of Rock n Roll (hard Rock, acid Rock), jazz groups like Blood Sweat and Tears, Motown, of course, a little bit of Country (Johnny Cash, Roy Clark), bubble gum (the Archies, the Cuff Links), a little Gospel (the Edwin Hawkins Singers), even a little reggae (Desmond Dekker), and, yes, there were still the big sellers like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones; vocal music by singers like Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, and Bobby Vinton; and a few instrumentals, like "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet." Great groups like the Doors, The Guess Who, 3 Dog Night, Credence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Cream, The Bob Seger System. Yes. AM Top 40 offered all of that. A complete musical education.

When his music came out he was on top of the rock and roll charts. The music that came out in 1967, 68 and 69 that was on top of the charts is not the music that people nowadays think it is. The definition of rock is what? The music that sold . He should be in there but everything is so political and who makes the decisions?

I was in my late teens back then. Herb and his Tijuana Brass had a no. 1 hit in the charts - *A Taste Of Honey*. Everywhere you went you'd hear it on radio. I learned later that Herb didn't really consider himself a great trumpet player - but I think he was selling himself short; he got a great sound out of that thing, and his playing was rhythmic and tight, sort of light-jazzy and band was top notch. And he was such a good looking dude the girls all swooned over him.

His tone is good, his phrasing is good, and he has a way with a melody. Those count. No, he really doesn't compare with Malcolm McNab (lead trumpet on a thousand Hollywood scores), but nobody compares with Malcolm McNab.

I played all the way from the 5th grade through the collegiate level. The moment you here the first few bars, you know it's Herb Alpert. I loved the 60's. Wouldn't trade crowing up then for anything. I finally got to see my musical hero in 2013 with his tour with his wife Lani Hall. Worth every dollar...I think it was $50.00.

I love the music, but I also love how ridiculously savvy Herb was about branding and promotion. He just knew how to do it right! In the liner notes to the first TJB LP, it says something like, "Word is getting out that Herb is something special. Some folks say he could make it big in the movies." Totally amazing, because the release is on his own record label, and he probably wrote liner notes himself! :) But, I wish he HAD made it big in the movies!

This one started it all for the great Herb Alpert .... AND even though he's not a great singer, I have no interest whatsoever in hearing any other artist perform "This Guy's in Love With You". I also understand that he paved the way for several young groups to reach their dreams in the world of Rock & Roll .... I salute you, SIR !

The TJB was part of our family car's 8-Track playlist on many summer vacation trips. Along with Tom Jones, Beach Boys, Al Martino, and others. Great memories associated with the sound of the TJB.

A Great Band. They were very popular in the 60's and they deserved it.. When I was at Fort Knox, Ky. in 1966 an Army band would play ".Tijuana Taxi ". Remember that one? It's nice to learn that they're still active.

I won't say how old I am, but I was 20 when this concert happened. LOL I must have 5 or 6 of their old 33 1/3 records. They were a great group, and this brings back lots of memories. The TJB were huge back then.

Brilliant! The TJB were always the $#!T when it came to music - no matter what your taste, you couldn’t help but feel happy upon hearing anything by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Let’s face it, Herb was the James Bond of music. As a five year old I realized this - women wanted him and men wanted to be him. Everything about him was cool and controlled. The finger pops, head bobs, the total control of the band and the sheer ease of his playing style made it clear that he was the man. No wonder that he became the music mogul that he was with A & M Records and with a personal net worth of close to a billion dollars. I’ve seen many of the greats in concert from so many musical genres - I do regret not seeing Herb (would have killed to see him perform with the TJB).
