I managed three different nutrition clubs (never became a distributor, just knew business and marketing more than the actual “business owner” Herbalife distributors that popped up all the clubs) and was shocked to see how UNHEALTHY all of the products actually were. The club owners put oatmeal, jello-pudding, sprinkles, whip cream, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, etc. in the shakes, advertise that the shakes are only 240 calories and totally ~nutritious~. What a joke. The last club I was at put jolly rancher flavored drink mix in the teas. I was appalled and couldn’t believe that their target market was the middle school and high school across the street- legitimately taking advantage of kids and their lack of knowledge of manipulative marketing.

But you are ok with McDonald's?
@sadiekayx3 жыл бұрын
@@luisibanezvdjla I don’t moralize food. In my book, there is no such thing as “good” food or “bad” food. Personally, McDonald’s makes me fatigued and sluggish, so I tend to not eat McDonald’s. I eat plant-based whole foods. The issue here is that Herbalife nutrition clubs don’t list the ingredients of their shakes anywhere for customers to see clearly. So customers come in thinking they’re getting a protein shake, but are deceived with a milkshake containing 3x+ the sugar content in comparison to a protein shake.
@dietitiankat3 жыл бұрын
Being “ok” is not enough of a nuanced term when you’re looking at applications of biochemistry (nutrition) and behavioral psychology in this case. It’s more about looking at the context. Am I recommending people kick off their nutrient-dense journey by heading to McDonalds? No. Would I be ok in certain cases for, let’s say, eating disorder-related exposure therapy? Potentially, depending on the case. Would I be ok for someone who isn’t able to keep anything down, overall not getting in enough food outside of it? Sure. I’ve seen pregnant people only be able to eat an egg McMuffin in the morning, while throwing up every other food. In that case, it’s unethical to withhold the only food they can hold down. I hope that’s not debatable. Would I be ok it for someone who had to leave without packing to travel to another city for a family emergency and who needs something quick (no time to stop in a grocery store and grab something else)? Again, potentially! Would I be ok with someone choosing a food place they want for whatever reason? Yes. I’m not the food police. I’m not going to make people feel shame or guilt for choosing a specific food place. What I AM going to do, is teach them how to approach food with curiosity, compassion, and context, to determine what the best food for them is. That is an approach that not only is supported by nutrition evidence, but also behavioral-psychology, which is something that has been missing in the health field (as we’ve seen based off the health status of many people, particularly in America). When we are able to do that, most people recognize how McDonalds makes their bodies feel and perform, versus other foods. I’m not about to answer a complex, nuanced question with a simple “yes” or “no”. Doing so only fuels more nutrition misinformation, confusion, and ultimately poor health (physically and emotionally). I’m not sure what country you’re in, but discussions without nuance has been a huge part of why USA is the way it is right now. As we become smarter humans, we need to stop expecting/wanting black and white answers. Full stop.

What sets me off is the fact that they tried to give me a meal plan, they told me about the shakes and the teas, and I had to join a 21-day challenge but they gave me a grocery list of foods that I can and cannot eat. What really got me is that they contradicted themselves for saying that I can have Non Dairy products, but I can't consume Almond Milk or Greek Yogurt. I HAVE NON DAIRY GREEK YOGURT and they said that I can't have that. They said that I can't have honey or sugar. I'd upload a list or two but it seems like I can't.

The whole diet industry does target women as does the magazine industry. Women being shamed into conforming to the norm. Men can get by with a large body or belly. Women's 'powers' are relegated to their 'sexuality', 'sexual desirability' and social status such as wife and mother. This is why they become vulnerable to the messages the media and marketing project. Doesn't matter how intelligent or wealthy she is, SHE has to look good too. 'She' won't be worthy of the status without it. However, women are also at risk of heart attacks and strokes, and ethnic minorities also highly at risk. Even the rich white men are at risk.

Interesting video! I used to be an Herbalife hater and always thought of it as a joke until I tried it out myself. I've honestly never felt better physically and mentally. It's unfortunate to see all the negativity from people who have never tried the products and only hear the bad or see false articles. People may not agree with the business but the products themselves have helped my health tremendously. I will always recommend it!
@dietitiankat3 жыл бұрын
I agree about negativity, but I think there’s a difference in referencing literature from reputable sources and having an educated opinion based on that. I hope this doesn’t fuel any Herbalife hate. I can’t imagine being a “hater”, but will instead focus on the resources to base decisions. As a dietitian, I will sometimes have a client take a specific supplement for medical nutrition therapy purposes, even though I might not have personally tried it. Another example is a doctor giving a patient medication - they don’t need to try the medicine personally to decide whether it’s a good or bad idea, they use the resources to decide. Thankfully I don’t have to try street drugs to know they aren’t a good idea! Reputable resources can really provide a lot of help!

Turns out the Academy basically said that they don't condone views of expo partners and that basically they will take anyone who pays, and if they put restrictions on booths, it would be overstepping professional judgement. Is there any one thing someone can do to lose weight?
@imaan19024 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not Kat and I'm also not a nutritionist or anything like that but personally losing weight and successfully keeping it off requires you to find a sustainable diet that you can see yourself eating for pretty much forever. Pick healthy foods that you love and you can also choose to make healthier versions of your favourite "unhealthy" foods or just treat yourself with these foods every once in a while. If it feels like a chore , you won't stick to it. I suggest first incorporating healthier food choices and then exercising. And the main thing is being in a caloric deficit, this depends on your age,weight,gender, activity level, height etc. so you have to check what works for you. You don't have to restrict too low find a suitable amount of calories and choose low calorie food such as veggies, fruits , lean meat etc to actually feel full/satiated. There's no short cut or easy way to weight loss, the long road is the most effective. Lose weight slowly and healthily and you're more likely to keep it off. I used to have some disordered eating habits -not a full blown ed but yeah not healthy eating habits or views on food, but now I realised the importance of a sustainable and long term diet that becomes a lifestyle. Some people track their macros and some don't - that's something that you'll have to research and see if it will benefit you. But all in all nutrition is key for weight loss - as the saying go "abs are made in the kitchen" , so eat healthy but make it manageable and personalised to your tastes and lifestyle and don't fall for these fad diets. I know this might be a really long reply lol , I'm sorry for that but I hope this helps a bit and good luck on your weight loss! 😁💪🏻

It can start with a whole lifestyle evaluation. The 24/7 lifestyle has most of us working irregular long hours and sedate leisure interests. You might taking calories with low nutritional value, so your body is calling for 'more' but you're 'putting in gas when you need oil and water'. Might be eating convenience because you don't have enough energy, money or time for a freshly cooked, least processed meal. The one thing someone can do is develop a meal or eating plan that suits their lifestyle, abilities and needs.
@goodgirlsguide4 жыл бұрын
Well you wouldn't go to someone for a wellness evaluation if you didn't want a solution and were clearly not going to research it yourself, in exactly the same way you sell your service as a dietitian/coach. You said the wellness consultation asks you about 'your (personal) meaning of wellness', then tell people that their answer should incorporate a global socio-economic perspective. If you went to your General Practitioner, they also wouldn't be asking you for a global perspective on socio-economic causes of 'your' problems. 17:00 - you are being unrealistic. It's a booklet not a text book. A healthy breakfast is the same for everyone. Not sugary, not processed, balanced nutrients and adequate calories. I'm no fan of the business, but pretty sure the Nobel award winning Dr at the company has years of expertise over someone with 5 years 'experience'. Fructose is fructose not sucrose. The liver studies you present are misleading as you are talking about protein shakes, but the studies don't specify which 'supplements' were taken and were most likely the herbal/oatmeal tablets not the protein shake. Everything when taken in excess is a threat to health, but there is no indication that they of telling, encouraging or providing you with excessive levels of anything in their products. You don't know what level of chemical company and Monsanto drugs, pesticides and chemicals are in your fruit and veg, antibiotic feed poultry, meat and dairy food or grains for that matter either. And let's not mention genetically modified food.

Interesting. "A healthy breakfast is the same for everyone." No, it's not. A person with Chron's disease might have a healthy breakfast for them that's not healthy for someone with epilepsy. We cannot make generalizations like that in science, especially medical nutrition therapy. "pretty sure the Nobel award winning Dr at the company has years of expertise over someone with 5 years 'experience'." Not sure how that makes a difference when the 5 year person isn't making up the info, but instead taking the information from reputable sources from people with more experience than that doctor who has fructose as the main carb ingredient in their shakes. I'm aware that fructose is not sucrose, I learned all that in the multiple nutrition biochem classes. I can see your concern about the studies. I'll put it on the list to revisit and make an updated video with more research from other doctors not funded by Herbalife.

How do you explain the above reality ..???? Don't you think, you could also be wrong or biased ???
@dietitiankat3 жыл бұрын
I am definitely biased. I try to add that in to newer videos and discuss the arguments why I am. For example, I have a bias when talking about MLMs. I don't support them, but I like to give the reasons why, which includes info from the FTC and other reputable sources. I definitely don't know everything and mention that when I can. This is why I use all the sources to gather the info in my videos! So the videos aren't based solely on me being right or wrong, but more on reputable sources listed in the description from people who have more education than I do! 😊

I found this video super discouraging 😞. I have a herbalife community that cares about me and belives in the products. I lost 17 lbs in 25 days and not even with 100% discipline. There is just so much out there with nutrition that it is overwhelming. I have always been thin and now I find myself obese within a short 5 years. Herbalife has been the only thing that has really helped me and now u are telling me that's bad too! I just throw my hands up in the air at this point. Looking for the positive in your video 😢

Diet culture really is super frustrating, I'm so sorry 🤍. Distributors of any company are going to participate in love-bombing and will be very nice (how else would anyone purchase)? I know nutrition can seem very confusing, but we know what a health diet is, and we know that it's simple. We don't need to spend $$$ on supplements. We can get what we need from a grocery store. Which product of herbal life is good for piles
@dietitiankat4 жыл бұрын
general nutrition recommendations for piles/hemorrhoids includes fiber-rich foods (beans, lentils, oats, starchy and non-starchy veggies) and plenty of water. It's also recommended to slowly increase the fiber, with water, to avoid problems with gas, bloating, or potentially making the problems worse. If you're working with a doctor, next time ask if they can refer you to a dietitian who can help on that 1:1 level. :)

Not really .. we are not these people .. For more than 10 years I’ve been using most of the Herbalife products and this is my result, they ( the products) keep me with energy and healthy because every time I run my health evaluations the results are great I do appreciate that you guys want to become famous but don’t talk crap about any company any company at all because when you talk bad about others all you are doing is showing who you are.
@dietitiankat4 жыл бұрын
Hi Canelo, glad to hear your personal experience. I’m not sure who you’re referring to when you mention “you guys.” I am only one person on my channel (minus 1 collab currently). My goal is not fame - I don’t want to even imagine the safety and other concerns that come with fame. Please refer to where I “talk crap”. I’m giving my educated opinion as a licensed, medical health professional. Criticism doesn’t equate to “crap talking” when you’re bringing evidence to the discussion. There is nothing wrong with critiquing companies that are causing harm. If we lived in a world where people only spoke positive on every company, we’d be in a very dangerous place. My criticism is definitely showing who I am - a health professional concerned about certain ingredients and messaging around this company. Nothing wrong with that when I can back it up.

I agree it's so annoying when people bash it and haven't tried it or tried it for a day an that's it. And mlm is not bad, some people have taken advantage of people in mlm but then again people take advantage of people outside of mlm. Not ALL people take advantage of other people. A customer for life means they just keep ordering the products they like. Like any other product, I like Dawn dish soap and have been using it for years and will continue. I have a customer who just loves the tea and orders it even though she isnt a member. Uuuff so annoying some people have been lead to believe the ugly even though they haven't tried it themselves. This girl would feel great if she was on it for a month. She would be surprised. Like uuuh so annoying how are you going to review something you haven't even tried. Hate this video.
@dietitiankat4 жыл бұрын
“How are you going to review something you haven’t even tried[?]” Me trying something gives anecdotal information. Personal testimony is not a strong argument when talking about science. To answer the “how”: I go to the official product website, look at ingredients, and reference ingredient information from reputable sources, including but not limited, to Medline Plus, Pubmed, and other sources from the National Institutes of Health and the US National Library of Medicine. Anyone who had taken higher level biological science courses (biochemistry, genetics, etc) tend to follow the same course of action, rather than relying on personal experience. My channel is aimed at those wanting information that can be backed up by evidence-based information.
@goodgirlsguide4 жыл бұрын
@@dietitiankat The flaw in your argument though is only people who felt ill complained to doctors and participated in the research. There was no double blind study or control participants included in the 'research' presented, comprehensive details of what they ate or consumed weren't detailed, therefore you can't conclude that changes to their livers or health were exclusively attributed to the none specified supplements that you implied they were taking over 15 years ago. You also stated there are so many factors affecting someone's health; environmental, psycho-social and economic factors, genetics and historical factors and behaviour, so the 'studies' are flawed to begin with. It does appear that you are attempting to promote yourself and your services by doing a 'scam' review of a product, business and service you haven't had any experience of nor interviewed people about, but just trawled the internet to explore, as a high SEO rating topic. Regardless of how pseudo-scientific you attempt to sound, it can't cover the fact that you have an alternative agenda. Self-promotion. I choose some products over others - Fairy washing up liquid, Colgate toothpaste - not every time, but enough to have used them through-out my life. So could be classed as a life-time consumer. They are consumable daily products, not education services. Even in the education sector, you learn what you need to know, put it to use and if it works, keep DOING it, if not, then move on or up. Same with dieticians. That info rarely changes, which is why people sell coaching/courses and books and do 'research' to 'package' it differently and resell it or to reposition themselves or their products in the crowded marketplace. Information and consumable products - two different product and service lifecycles. No-one will admire your 'nobility' as it just market positioning.
@dietitiankat4 жыл бұрын
@@goodgirlsguide I'll make another video better explaining your concerns. Thanks for the feedback. As far as appearing to promote myself. I didn't go into this job and take an oath to do no harm to sit idle and watch people be taken advantage of. I would say that I'm more so promoting my ideas and the ideas of so many before me, versus myself personally, even though I wouldn't necessarily see a problem with that. But no, I cannot stay quiet when I see harm in the dieting world. I'm so tired of people saying there's agendas everywhere. People who are doing important work are seen by people wanting to stay comfortable as "having an agenda". If I could write an agenda right now, it would be for dieting companies to stop profiting off people insecurities and selling unnecessary overpriced supplements. That's my "alternative agenda" and I'm ok to stand by it. Information for dietitians does change and get updated often. I read over the new research studies in my area of practice every month, so not sure how else to respond. "No-one will admire your 'nobility' as it just market positioning." Well...other than the fact that I'd never tell someone that to someone, I appreciate your opinion, but that's just not true. Otherwise I wouldn't have what I have. Even though you say no one will admire me, I'm not going to talk down to you or put anything rude and harmful into your head. I have better things to do, like lifting up people and keeping them from harmful dieting companies, thanks, but no thanks. If you want to have a civil conversation, I'm here for it, but personal attacks aren't up for debate. That's elementary.

This is so sad! But then again, education doesn't automatically equate to intelligence. The next time you use literature that you find online to do a "review" on - please verify where its from . This wellness guide is outdated and is actually not official documentation from Herbalife Nutrition. It is a specific teams guide. I would definitely not want you as my dietitian. It baffles me where you find the time to be doing all of this. Which makes me wonder, does this woman have so much free time on her hands and is now using social media to create clout for her name? Why is she not busy? Is business that bad that she needs to stoop this low? This is petty and low. I think you have said enough. You're bitter and mean and I hope that your carelessness does not cause anyone's health any harm.
@dietitiankat3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shalom! Sorry this is sad to you! 💜 I agree education doesn't equate to intelligence which is why I always link resources and try my best to not fall back and resort to illogical fallacies. The feeling is mutual, I would not want you as a client (I don't take everyone though, so don't feel bad), so I'm glad we can agree again. I try my best to not work with people who talk rudely about people and make assumptions. I'm thankful for that freedom to not have to take anyone who contacts me. As far as where I find the time, since it baffles you, I do it in the pockets of free time here and there. I have built my life and schedule to allow for hobbies and advocacy (which partially includes KZbin). Generally I spend some Saturdays editing if I get around to record the previous week. I wish I was more consistent, but client work takes priority and sometimes I just don't feel like recording/editing/uploading. You don't actually need a whole bunch of free time to make KZbin content! I can definitely help you with some tips if you'd like. I'd hate to see people thinking KZbin really takes as long as you're thinking it does. 😊 Since you sound concerned, I just do my business for fun. I'm privileged, very grateful, and don't take for granted that I can do side hobbies such as KZbin and get paid for it. I hated being tied to a 9-5 and my husband was all for me doing what I wanted to do. I do see quite a bit of illogical fallacies in your arguments, but I'd be open to a debate if you're ever interested. As far as the guide, I can completely understand where you're coming from. Because of your concern, I'll be sure to do another video on Herbalife with their updated guide so there will be even more content on KZbin about it! Thanks for the idea! I think many of my newer viewers haven't seen this video since it's older, so I'll be sure to make an update! I follow nutrition-related laws, (i.e. not careless), so you don't have to worry about harming health. I can share some of my work history/awards if you'd like. I don't like to talk about them, but if you're concerned about my practice, I can ease your mind with some examples that show you don't have to worry. Thanks for the interaction on my channel, I appreciate it. I hope you have a good night Shalom.
