Good stuff and excellent information! One question that's a bit off topic. How do you feel about the effectiveness of "hack and squirt treatment" during the dormant season?

It's effective pretty much any time of year except spring!

Do ya'll have any input on using Oust XP when managing for turkeys? I know it's sometimes used for site prep in pine plantations, but I've not seen much written about its use in areas managed for wildlife. We have some issues with Hay Scented Fern in our hardwoods post timber harvest. 2 oz Oust/acre sprayed in mid to late summer is supposed to control it, but I'm worred it'll also kill a lot of the forbs and blackberry.

It will knock back existing grasses and forbs. It also does have residual soil activity which will have an effect on what is then able to respond. Glyphosate will be friendlier to the grasses and forbs used by turkeys.
