Da jazz funk, da whole & nothin' but...! When you see these artist's in their contemporary prime, you really know there ain't nothin' better! The fender rhodes still remains the greatest technological development in electronic music,as Herbie,Patrice Rushen,Lonnie Liston Smith,Webster Lewis,Lonnie Smith,Rodney Franklin,Eddie Russ & Chick Corea among other greats has proven.

Dropped in on an open jam a little over a month ago at the edge of the city of Atlanta. The Bros' asked me to play bass with them on this one. AWESOME! The old white gray haired guy had an absolute blast. Sometimes helps to be this old and remember the really cooool stuff!!

Man Herbie TAUGHT everybody HOW to solo on a Fender Rhodes...Patrice Rushen Larry Dunn Bob Mayo me... you etc etc. Big up Herbie much respect. His innovation and touch is legend on any instrument whether acoustic grand or the Arp Odyssey but he's the architect of soloing on Rhodes.

Herbie is the joint...the serious joint. Def. The baddest. I love him. I saw this band at the bottom line and P.Jackson broke a string and kept playing his ass off with Al Mouzon who is ridiculous. He's one of the cats who doesn't get nearly enough credit/played with McCoy and Herbie and Weather Report I think.

I would like to see cats like Herbie, Bob James, Billy Cobham, etc each make a throwback old-school analog FUNK record, just as they did in their heyday...I would buy that ALL DAY. I think if they were to do that, the real Funkateers would stand up and salute, and they'd never go back to their dentist-office Sir Nose quasi-funk again! Straight ahead jazz is still cool though. They can do that too.

this is one of the great bands of 1970s. They raised jazz funk to an art form equal, in my opinion, to any swing bop or accoustic bands. Herbie's solo is masterful in it rhythm, blues feeling and development.

I can't imagine especially if they took the time to search for the song. It's not that big of a deviation from the album version to create a bad taste in the mouth. It's a treat to be able to see Herbie Hancock in his hay day. I was only 7 when this performance was recorded so for me it's a thrill to be able to see what I missed. I can still remember the places in this song where the 8 track used to change tracks.

@AdriftFor That's Bennie Maupin - bandleader, composer, improviser, reed player extraordinaire (saxes, flutes, bass clarinets). Sauce. He collaborated with Herbie on a bunch of albums, worked on Miles' "In a Silent Way" and a couple others, recorded a half-dozen of his own, played with Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Jack DeJohnette, all those cats.

Ive been playing this video for 10 yrs- master level musicians! So ahead of it's time in certain parts anyone know how did he do those sounds? What is that thing above his back keyboard, an electric panel, screen, art or sheet music? Was that a wah pedal during the "Kung fu" part or some weird 70s motion detector gadget?? These riffs don't show up on the records I listen to and I'm guessing it was improvised. It's got to the best live performance I've ever seen
