Your channel, even though I will never hear or see any comments from you. When you’re a big big channel, I know you don’t have time for little channels like mine, but I do love gardening and I do love to get inspirational gardening channels that are big to keep me focused on my own little tiny tiny gardenand get some awesome creative ideas to keep going forward on my channel. Thanks for another great inspiring video. Love your fountain video and now I am watching your garden video.

New subscriber here. Loving your cooking demonstrations and gardening tips. Puts me in a good mood just watching your videos. 😊 I love how your lifestyle contains so many multigenerational family aspects. A great way to live. So, when you plant tomatoes deep down inside the tiles, it would seem like they don’t get enough light. But I guess they do. 🌿Please follow up with a part two: staking techniques. I planted out a long deserted patch of earth, that probably hadn’t had anything growing in it for at least 50 years. It was as hard and barren as concrete. 3 seasons later with a lot of mulch/compost/ leaf drop and plantings; the soil is easy to dig into, full of earthworms and other important organisms and above ground, plants are full of flowers, pollinators, lady bugs, bumble bees, butterflies and a plethora of birds. Your techniques are spot on.

Good to know that planting tomatoes deep is ok. Also trimming off excess suckers and lower leaves. Thanks for the great information. 😊

I use a coffee filter at the bottom of my pots so the soil doesn’t run through but the water can still leach out!

Always so informative! I designated an area outside my kitchen window for herbs and I used to plant them in the ground… Some are so invasive, either by roots or seeds, that I started putting them in large urns… And now 95% of my annual and perennial herbs are grown in pots in the “herb garden”… I love your idea of companion planting them! Move over parsley and basil!

It's really interesting to see how different folks in different areas plant tomatoes. Where I am the summers usually don't get very hot, so I've found side planting a little better than planting deep so the roots stay warm. I can totally see how planting deep helps protect the plants from wind, and those heavy tiles--what a great adaptation! I used your jug method for my tomatoes this year for plants that were a little small but I really wanted to get in the ground and it worked fabulously! Just had to tell the family to stop throwing out the milk and vinegar jugs for the last year (which was not easy, I pulled them out of the blue bin several times). Happy growing!

This year, I want to plant some herbs, basil , parsley, cilantro, but i will be putting them in containers. There was no room in my raised bed. I have planted quite a variety of tomato plants this year, supersteak, better boy, la roma, supersweet red, Carolina gold, lemon boy, sunsugar,.

I have trenched and planted deep on tomatoes and for me deep is much better...need less watering as opposed to trench where roots are closer to surface

I understand wanting to protect the little tomato plants from the wind, but doesn't the terra cotta tiles block out a lot of the sun? Or do the little plants get enough sun when the sun is directly overhead? Just curious.

Plant very early in the morning or late evening. Thoroughly water the hole and let drain before planting, plant roots deeper, put a little dirt rim around plants to hold water in a little longer, water daily until very established and mulch, mulch, mulch. Happy gardening! 🌿

Is it necessary to fill with so much soil? Can the bottom be filled with "filler" like cut up pool noodles or a turned over plastic pot.
@BritInvLvr
@BritInvLvr 7 ай бұрын
I would suggest not adding plastic to your soil, especially if it’s for an edible plant. I use raked up leaves, shredded paper or twigs to fill up my containers on the bottom. It the container is really big, I’ll use tree branches.

I just sprayed my chive plant for black aphids with a tiny squirt of original blue Dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Neem Oil can also be used and can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's. Both are supposed to smother the aphids. Neem Oil will probably work best if you have caterpillars or those green worms eating the leaves of the herb plants. Look out for grasshoppers too eating your herbs.

I hear you, very annoying. I sprinkle cayenne pepper around the plant and repeat as needed. Squirrels hate it!
