Sam getting his mythology knowledge from a Disney movie lol. Hades isn't Satan or a demon, he's just a god that rules over the underworld. He's not evil. Just like Poseidon rules the sea, Hades rules the underworld.

While he is wrong yeah I think you could kind of draw some parallels. In Christianity, Satan was an angel who fell victim to his own pride and was dissatisfied with his station so he wanted to overthrow God and claim his spot. In Greek mythology, Hades was a brother equal to Zuess (aside from having been eaten by their father and then saved by Zuess) who then got screwed over with being king of the underworld simply because the other brothers didn’t want it. Both in a situation they were dissatisfied with, one was prideful and tried to punch up and the other was bitter (probably) but didn’t (as far as I know) act on it.

@@jaredramirez9623 nah, iirc (and it's been a minute since I learned Greek mythos) hades from the actual Greek stories didn't really care it was just his realm. The bitterness and parallels to hell and Satan are all kinda made up as a modern thing.

Also another common misconception, Satan doesn't rule Hell. He was sent there as a punishment just like all the other evil doers.

To be fair to Square Enix, they released a bunch of Kingdom Hearts games for various platforms between 2 and 3 - including re-releases of 1 and 2 that added extra content. Apparently if you've played all of those, Kingdom Hearts 3 makes more sense, but a lot of those in-between games are on oddly obscure platforms. Oh well. Very glad to see how much good that break did you. It's late, but welcome back.

Hey Sam, Hades can't really be equalized to Satan or Lucifer for a couple reasons. One being Hades is just a god, no different than the other gods. Just rules over the underworld. Two being the underworld in Greek mythos isn't a place where bad people go. It's where everyone goes, that said there are different levels in the underworld that differ depending on the life you lived. I know you didn't really want an answer to a mostly rhetorical random thought but I think it's all interesting.

I feel the same about FFXIV. I take a break and when I go back the main menu song always brings a tear to my eye. The main reason... 3 years ago I had my last drink of alcohol and that's when I started playing it. So there's a huge amount of sentimental value with that game.

@samdadude In greek mythology, Hades is in charge of the underworld yes, but in greece, everyone (good or bad) goes there. So he's not Satan, hes just the general manager

Been loving the new videos. I mean to be fair I love all the videos but you seem refreshed and it’s very nice to see. Also I love your tattoo mentality. Never let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t put on your body. I’ve been asked several times “aren’t you gonna regret those when you’re older” no. No I won’t. I’ll regret not having gotten them. Or even if I do regret them it’s my problem anyways that’s the beauty of it.

Hades is Zeus’s & Poseidon’s older brother. Hades, and Hephaestus, are probably some of the most chill gods in Greek mythology too. The dude is actually pretty chill and fair who loves his wife and doesn’t cheat on her.

I played Kingdom of hearts 2 on ps2 and literally years later broke it back out on ps2 and played again because it's just so good.

8:55 - Technically, Hades and Satan are both rulers of Hell. But like you said, different pantheons. Hades from Greek mythology and Satan from Christian mythology!

I mean if you wanna be specific, Hades rules the the Underworld which is entirely different from the Jewish/Christian/Muslim concept of Hell. Hell is basically always bad and a punishment, whereas the Underworld is more value-neutral. Likewise, Hades is not necessarily evil, and is actually way more respectful and less rapey than Zeus and Poseidon in the original myths.

Yeah, I think the Greek version of Hell was Tarturus, which was just one part of the Underworld. It would be like if Satan was not evil, or at least any more evil than anyone else, and was also in charge of the afterlife parts of Heaven.

also in greek mythology every soul went to the underworld. what you did and how you acted in your mortal life decided which part you were sent to in the underworld. you want to end up in Elysium. best place to be I believe.

have you tried predecessor yet sam? i know you’ve had a very strong love/hate relationship with smite for the past 2 months so it could be a nice change of pace
