A Pegasus puppet a la War Horse that flies over the audience ridden by Hercules would add the wow factor.And was already done with the giant moth in the OG of Dr Dolittle at the Hammersmith Apollo so not impossible.And don't forget there was a flying dragon at TRDL in the OG West End version of Shrek!

We are so excited about Hercules coming to London but really surprised Disney has chosen Drury Lane for its run. It seems risky to me. Such a big space to fill and young children don't know this show. Looking at current videos/reviews of the Hamburg production, it really doesn't feel right at this point. Whatever I won't be missing it!

Michael Ahomka-Lindsay has been the first name that has come to mind to play Hercules. He looks the part, and he's a great actor. There's not much of a chance to hear his singing in Cabaret, but I'd love to discover it. I honestly can't think of any other names at the moment, but he's come to mind as soon as I heard "let's dream cast Hercules".

I feel like the best West End Hades would be Bertie Carvel. I'm not sure if he's really interested in doing musicals anymore? But if he is, that combination of manic comic talent and villainous gravitas is just perfect for Hades--sort of merges the Roger Bart and Shuler Hensley takes.
@natalierandall245 ай бұрын
It needs either a Sven style or War Horse style puppet for Pegasus. He's an integral character in my opinion, just as much as Sven his in Frozen. The Frozen bridge pivots at sections so it can turn 90 degrees to get on stage left and then off again stage right to then be stored upstage of the LED wall. The same way the Shrek bridge worked back when it was in Drury lane. :)

I've always hoped that they might bring THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME to the West End. Was a real shame that it never transferred to Broadway because of the large choir but it's one of the best scores for any Disney production!!

I saw the production in Hamburg and have to say, I hope they'll make some changes for the West End transfer. While the cast in Hamburg is absolutely phenomenal I missed the "Disney Magic Moment" as well. In addition the story has aaaaa lot room for improvement (I particularly didn't like the Hades ending/resolution). Still the show was a lot fun to watch though - but mainly because of the music and great performers on stage. Let's see how the London version turns out 🏺🏺🏺

Hm. The stage licensing point is resonating with me. The high school my kids went to got an early license for a high school version of Little Mermaid, and it has been fairly popular with the middle school/high school theater groups since then (a straight take on the movie, and you know the hermit crab live is a take no high school kid should perform). Hercules could fall into the same mindset. I do love the movie as a musical, and the images you caught of the german production looked really reminiscent of the film style. Given how long things run, I could start planning my Totoro/Hercules summer now

When thinking about who could play Hades on Broadway, my mind went into very, very different directions. First, I thought of Norm Lewis, because that voice, and he can be so commanding, but yet have such awesome humor. But, at this point in his life, I don’t know if he would want to do another Disney musical on Broadway. But I would love it! Then, I thought of James Monroe Iglehart. He would bring such hilarious to the role, but yet be able to do it just I feel. Plus, if you know anything about him, he is obsessed with Disney, and I think he would definitely love to play another iconic character in a Disney musical on Broadway for sure.

Ooh Jordan Benjamin would be such a good shout! I was thinking maybe Michael Ahomka Lindsay or Djavan Van Der Fliert since they’re already known to Disney Theatricals but I’d be delighted if Jordan was cast. For Meg, maybe Dujonna Gift, Frances Mayli McCann or Rhianne Louise, they’d be so sassy! Trevor Dion Nicholas as Phil? And stick with me here, but I’d actually love to see George McGuire as Hades - after seeing him in Death Note, he could totally pull off the campy villain.

As a Dane traveling to London frequently and having watched four amazing Disney Musicals, I seriously doubt if I am going to see Hercules over there. I would rather see Fredericia Musicalteater produce Disney’s Hercules with Diluckshan Jeyaratnam as the title role (black and amazing voice) and eventually Johanne Milland as Megara. They both star in Wicked this fall and the earlier Fredericia Teater has produced four Disney musicals before.

Exciting news however I do feel it's going to struggle to sell for the reasons you stated. As for what may be going in after frozen I did hear Finding neverland was going in (which seams unlikely now). I wasn't aware that disney had rights to the theatre so could we see other disney show going in maybe Mary poppins getting a limited run (before it goes on tour) or Aladdin (once they have wrapped up the tour in Jan). Unsure about who they will cast (saw Marley Fenton in Grease the other week, may be a possibility) however I can easily see Clive Rowe playing Phil. And yes I had the same reaction about Roger Bart when I found out.

I know the theatre is colour blind and there is nothing wrong with that but why not have a white actor play Hercules? He is, after all a figure from Greek legend and was shown as blond and blue eyed in the film.
@MickeyJoTheatre5 ай бұрын
He wasn't blonde in the film, was he? Very ginger. I don't think there's any reason not to, beyond Disney earmarking the role for a young man of colour (who are underrepresented in romantic leads!). As for the Greek part, a white British actor would be no more Greek, so what's the difference?
