And hey, Circe was apparently actually a contemporary of Heracles, as they both were purported to have been active around the time of the Trojan War. This may seem like a little thing, but considering that Hercules: TLJ also had him and Iolaus be around during the birth of Christ which was supposed to take place millennia after the age of Heracles (and this was a normal episode, so no time travel and Iolaus wasn't ever an important so that wasn't the work around), it's probably worthy of at least a golf clap to the writers.

In the TV series, there were a ton of press releases about Sam Jenkins playing the Serena, Golden Hind -- she'd met Kevin Sorbo in an earlier appearance and they got married, so they were making a big deal about his new real-life wife portraying the new love interest on the show, and heavily implying she'd be a series regular. I can't believe I haven't seen this video until now, that was fantastic! I have the speedrun World Record for this game. Here's some fun facts I think you would like: - We try to avoid literally as much combat as possible in the game. We just sprint past all the useless waves of enemies as they shout "Hey!" at us. In order to get all the money required to beat the game, we beat the tutorial over and over again right at the start. - Before we did a big routing change last year, take a wild guess where the biggest reset spot is? You'd be right, it's that damn jump on the hill to get the switch. There's no secret to it. Thankfully now, we do a glitch to go out of bounds and get to the switch from the other side, avoiding that nasty jump. -Every single labyrinth boss, the minotaurs, can be beaten in a matter of seconds. The funniest one is in the second labyrinth, where the developers for some reason made it so that if you run away from the minotaur while it is stuck behind a lava pool, it will jump and run through it. So you just hit the gong, run away, and the minotaur kills itself. Thank you guys for bringing attention to this quirky little mess of a game. I'm so glad you found that dialogue of the girl talking about how the game was rushed. I'd also be happy to answer any questions you have about the game, any oddities, I can also talk about more fun glitches.

13:00 Okay...THAT is something I've never seen happen before. How can a controller, the official controller, not be good enough for gameplay? Has something like that even happened before? How do you even program that into the game!? I'm confused and yet kinda...impressed?
@SoulWarrior2654 жыл бұрын
My only guess is that their first party controller's mechanism that detects how far it's been moved is starting to wear down to the point where it's no longer precise enough to make the jump. The jump in question also likely was only tested on controllers that are fresh out of the box and working as intended. The third party controller they ended up using likely still had all of its precision intact, and wasn't used long enough for it to start wearing down. This is only a guess, honestly, but this is the most logical conclusion I can think of.

@@SoulWarrior265 I'd think that too, Mario in Mario 64 runs way slower than he does on Virtual Console. It's kinda impossible to make him run at full speed with an official controller.

It's actually one of the better looking and less blurry games on the N64(has nice view distance, unlike many N64 games). N64 and PSX games aren't made to be viewed on HD TVs or monitors tho. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the shitty framerate, because it gets pretty bad at points.

As a kid when I heard about emulation I was really excited and emulated the gameboy + gameboy colour at the time and enjoyed the games I couldn't afford; when I heard there was a n64 one I was obvious hyped to try out all the games I never heard of and this was one of the games: "Hercules: The legendary Journeys" A game from one of the first non-cartoons I liked as a kid. But I could never get past the key part at the beginning and got bored fast; but the chance to see a cyclops in 3D always drew me back in (to get bored again). Well, I watched this video and i'm glad I didn't waste more time on it; that model looks awful even back then. But to see the rest of the game is, worse. There are some thing best left forgotten :/

@mattboy52964 жыл бұрын
@@brandycoral1103 It wasn't made specifically for this game, it was just a general add on that allowed controller vibration for extra immersion and many N64 games utilized it for puzzles. Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask used it to search for hidden objects in the world for example. I assume this game had it used for something similar.

One thing that this series thankfully got right: Hercules' main enemy is Hera. For some reason modern Hercules adaptations like to pit him against Hades even though Hades isn't really evil except for the whole Persephone thing (and let's be honest, Zeus has him beat when it comes to creeping on women).

Titus as a gaming dev company seems to always been dealt a bad hand. Superman 64, for example, WB basically hampered them every step of the way, and it's implied that they did it because it could be used as justification for them to cut ties with Titus and just selling the rights to another company for more money than Titus gave. Every single time they would second guess things like, they argued that Superman couldn't dive underwater and the lead dev had to show them the issue where Superman could fight underwater. We could have had a PC port that would fix all the issues, but WB wouldn't let them release it.

You've got to like the developers to put such a blatant "F*** You" to the publisher using an entire town to get their message across. If it's true and the game was rushed out the door so quickly, you can't really blame them for the state the game is in. If they'd had proper development time, they'd probably have fixed a lot of the issues. The publisher probably just asked "Can you get from the start to the end of the game?" "Well, technically yes. But..." "Okay, good enough. Let's ship it!" "But nothing's actually finished!" "Did I stutter? I said ship it!" Anyways, here's what I would probably try doing to fix this game, other than obvious things like making the key in the pool visible. 1: Port everything into Ocarina of Time's engine. The level design seems compatible, without needing to make any changes, and it would fix the controls, combat, and targeting. To be honest, when you see how the action prompt works, I think that probably was what the developers were going for. Actually, this would fix a ton more problems as well. Saving would be more convenient and fix the Labyrinth problem. Archery would be more precise. The only tweak you would need would be to place a platform in the middle of that controller-bugged jump, but that would even fix that area's issue as well. 2: Acknowledge the drowning cyclops, even if just for a laugh. Cyclops gets washed down-stream. We need to follow the river to try and rescue him from drowning. Path is blocked and we're led to next town. Either save the cyclops at some point, just to get the player near the next destination, or parody the whole damned thing and by the time you've done all the fetch quests required to open the path, the cyclops has drowned already. The entire quest is rendered moot, but you are near your next destination. 3: Slightly tweak the titan battle. Assuming that we're now using Ocarina of Time's engine and controls, change the fight to where the flaming boulder thrown at you stays on the ground when it hits. You now are able to use it for cover against the flamethrower attacks long enough to line up a shot to hit a target. After two or three flamethrower attacks or after successfully hitting a target, the boulder breaks and you repeat the process. Adds a bit of structure to the fight, and adds in slight moments for the player to catch their breath. Considering the state for Ocarina of Time hacking, I think this could actually be done fairly easily.

I’ve had a bit of a fascination with (at least imagining) trying to hack/mod some kind of decent game using a terrible one as a foundation (my go to for challenging people with that is Bubsy 3D). Hadn’t considered the opposite concept you just suggested: using a good game as a foundation to remake a bad one.
