Today's integration video update with Khanyisa and the Jabulani Herd is a lovely and lengthy 30-minute clip.
There were so many easy-going and peaceful moments just seeing Khanyisa in the wild, in her element, between a new and caring family, learning new things, and most importantly, feeling the sense of protection and love.
We have no doubt that with the trauma that she went through at the start of her young life, being on her own for so many days and injured from the horrid snare that wrapped itself around her, that security, love and protection means everything to this brave little elephant.
What a privilege it is to see her feeling safe and loved once again!

To all the team at HERD Elephant Orphanage: I think you are among the greatest people in the world for saving these elephants and for your kindness. After seeing and hearing Khanyisa's story, I had to donate! Everyone, please donate, no matter how small the gift, it all adds up to saving the elephant from extinction!

Yes James, it is vitally important that we help. Let's all follow James' lead. Surely we can replace '1' fast food meal so the herd can continue to eat!

@@repentantsoul4213 Thanks for the message. Helping to save the elephant is for sure more satisfying than more food or more clothing. I like what HERD, African Wildlife Federation, and the David Sheldrick Trust are doing to preserve these species. And there are still others helping to save the African Elephant, and yet others protecting the Asian Elephant. I support them all. What seemed hopeless a few years ago now seems hopeful.

I am just about to launch my new business and I hope it takes off so I can donate regularly to these extraordinary people who give their lives to these majestic beings. They are amongst the oldest and wisest on our planet amongst whales and dolphins and trees. These beings hold the original blueprint of this planet from before everything was messed with. That is why they seem so loving and wise and why it is unbearable how ignorant greedy and selfish people treat them. Hod bless the staff who love them and help them to get back onto their original path.....of just being an elephant!

@@thefairyqueen369 I agree with everything you say about the value of elephants. Can you imagine a world without these intelligent and very gentle animals? Good luck on your new business & may it free you to do the things that you want to do. Oh, and after I wrote my original post I repeatedly donated to help HERD, to the extent that my finances permitted.

That sweet gentle touch Khanyisa gave to Lammie, she learned it from Tokwe. Being with a herd is such an important part of being an elephant. Babies grow and learn everything from their mothers. Khanyisa has several, bless her heart. They teach her what to eat, how to harvest it, how to find water, behavior and manners in a herd, how to tend to babies, everything it means to be an elephant. I'm so grateful for the important work you're doing there. Each and every elephant is important. Their health, happiness, and well-being is all part of rehabilitation and development. Bless you all!💕

Sativa -- I don't know about you .... but I am utterly, fatefully, forever smitten with this Baby Khanyisa and the whole herd-! She is already so amazingly smart and loving beyond most humans. We are truly fortunate to have such a connection to these sentient beings called Elephants. I had a crummy afternoon and came home just now -- clicked onto this video and I feel like I've had a three hour meditation of total bliss in the just witnessing these wondrous creatures. Tis a pity we so called human beings cannot treat each other with such respect and care, especially in the assaults on protesters and the lackadaisical disrespect of the Corona Virus by too many. Ohhhh wellllll. Happy almost Saturday & Namaste-! D.A.

@@MeBeTheDB I'm so glad this lifted your spirits. I adore watching the care elephants show to the babies, even ones not their own. Socially, they are more advanced, loving and caring than we are. It's very sad I just typed that and it came so easily. This virus is turning people against each other at a time when we need to be supportive with many ending their lives for one reason or another. It's Sunday morning here, enjoy your weekend! God Bless, if I can't find many nice people nearby, it's always joyful finding wonderful people on the net 🙏🌸

I miss Fenya. 😥 I wish she could and would have lived to be part of this herd and bestie with Khanyisa. I wonder if she had been surrounded by several big allomother Ellies, together with Khanyisa and Lammie, if that might have helped her to fight for life. She was so traumatized by human cruelty. She was terrified of humans. I'm so grateful that you all did everything to help her. 😔. Thank you.

My theory is because so much love has been extended to her by her carers and the people around the world she attracts love in huge amounts from the cows and bulls of THE HERD. She resonates with wonderful energy from all of us and you. Shows everyone the power of love!

It's amazing how big they are but their steps are gentle...she's right in the middle of them and they gracefully bypass her or don't step on her

It just amazes me how no matter where Khanyisa is there always seems to be at least one adult with her or very near her.

Yep, there are multiple bulls (males) in the herd, both young and old. The herd was named after a bull named Jabulani who was rescued in 1997. He was the first member of the herd who Khanyisa was introduced to (see their 3 month and 6 month update videos on her). They have info about the herd members on their website if you want to learn more about them :)

I could watch the herd all day. It's so relaxing. It still amazes me how patient protective and loving the wild herd is with Khanyisa. She is so full of life and spunk and ready to go explore. That beautiful little girl is a true embassador to the elephant species. 🥰🥰❤❤🐘🐘🐘

I'm always looking for Fishan now. I'm so concerned about his left front foot. He seems to be keeping up with the rest of his family, but is it too soon to wonder if there might be more that can be done for him. What an extended family he has around him...you, Adine, the carers, his vet, and the rest of the Jabulani Herd...everyone looking out for everyone...smile now!

He has a pressure sore, from always sleeping on that affected leg. There is very little that can be done other than treat it every day - which we do. Our wildlife vet, Dr Rogers checks up on him often. The fact that he is walking today is a miracle of it's own! Unfortunately there is not much more that can be done, and he is getting on fine. If he were battling he would be staying behind for lengths of time or even staying in stables, like he did at first. It was a good 6 months after breaking his leg before he felt strong enough to go out for the full day. Rest assured, we are keeping a very keen and tentative eye on him. What a journey it has been!

HERD Elephant Orphanage South Africa Not trying to come between you and Fishan’s Veterinarian, however, have you questioned the Internet (do you have “Google”!). No one person can possess all the medical knowledge available, and with a multi ton Elephant there might be leg “bedsore” treatments with great results commonly known, say, in Siri Lanka, or Thailand that are unknown in South Africa. Has anyone reached out to Sangduen Chailert “Lek” at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand?, or your nearby neighbors Doug and Sandi Groves at Botswana’s Living with Elephants Foundation (their main bull “Jabu” has his right front leg in a custom cast-brace for some time due to a injury...perhaps they too had to deal with bedsores as Jabu healed... These are just for starters, if you permit I’ll do more research on all this...Fishan, like all your magnificent Elephants, deserves nothing less than the very best medical help available...the world over!

We so love khanyisa..we love her because she was found trapped in a horrible snare and somehow saved by humans that serendipitously found her wondering like that. The first thanks of all goes to those humans that found her and did not disregard her as a being that would eventually succumb to death...and i thank God for those humans that found her in such a condition and found mercy on her to painfully remove that awful snare. I know how much it must have hurt..and i can almost hear her bellows as it was removed. I give great credits to those that found her and underwent the soulful and arduous task that lay before them. They answered the call of duty to Gods creation...Gods beautiful and wonderfully made wilidlife..and i lift them and exalt them on high for saving her and sending her to the wonderful carers, the vets who mended her and healed her and of the Jubalani who accepted her as their family, the reserve that supplies them and the everyday care, diiligent care of the orphanage that get up early to check her wounds and. feed her milk, keep her warm and feeling loved and cared for, like as if she belongs...i am trully and thankffull for you all. And i am trully sorry for the sudden passing of baby sompane and grieving her loss along with you and tbe Jubalani...but i rejoice and am soo very glad that you all, the reserve and Jubalini have been given this injured orphan baby elephant to heal, nourish , and to restore the pain of the loss and grief of those lost beloved ones, as she she gives sunshine, bravey, trust and the hope of a future. God bless his beautiful and wonderfully made creations and those who find it their dutiy to save them. Amen.
