I agree to a point. Have you ever seen a video of men rushing together to lift a car off of a victim? There are countless examples of people doing extraordinary things together to save others. I think most people jump at the chance to be heroic. It's quite a contradiction to those who commit crimes against others.

It appears they had a couple of plans, when one didn't work the mother told everyone to leave and she took a couple of steps away to make the calf really want to get out or he may be left there alone. When that didn't work she offered her leg for the calf to latch on to but that didn't work so back to another plan and the younger, lighter elephants got into the water to push out the calf. If the bigger elephant got into the water it would have been much harder for her to get out due to her size and weight. At the end of the day, the baby was rescued and the elephants and humans are all very relieved. I bet it slept good that night.

Awesome display of love! I wouldn't like to call these graceful souls, 'animals'. We, human beings are the most dangerous animals ever to surface the earth. Thanks for the uplifting video. It galvanized me in to doing something good today.

2019? Anyone? Lol! Oooooooh! I was yelling “Come on baby Ellie! You can do it!” I started crying and laughing when it got out! Thank you for this video! Elephants are so sweet, caring, loving and intelligent creatures!

This is an amazing video. From the comments, it's interesting to notice how we try and interpret animals' actions and intents through a human lens, for instance, when people ask, "why did the herd keep leaving?" What may seem like cruelty or indifference to us may be something altogether different in the elephant world - really, we have no idea why they kept leaving and returning, and in the end, the elephants obviously knew what they were doing, since they were successful in rescuing one of their herd.

elephants dont abandon their family. If they left is because the mother wanted, maybe the mother wanted to try a plan on her own.
