To me the sisters being out front represent the real civilian fear and anxiety experienced by having 32,000 men ready to raze your city if need be.
@KSmith-kp5jz3 ай бұрын
Because it’s not just the revolutionaries who reap the consequences of rebellions. It’s also everyone who lives there. And a lot of civilians are worried for their family members who are fighting in the war. “They surround our troops” to me sounds like they’re both worried for their soldiers and worried about what happens if the revolution fails (and even if, well when, the revolution succeeds there will still be a lot of bloodshed and property damage).

@@memyselfandi2300 There are actually two Howes, brothers, one of which was admiral and the other general. Someone else already suggested to do the cut songs which I wholeheartedly second (who doesn't love congratulations?). Also maybe just doing other musicals together. While I absolutely can't wait for Hadestown maybe it would be worth it to have both of you reacting to that together. Or more of the lightning thief musical. Just to keep the greek mythology musical theme with the birth of you running.

Fun note! The Marine Corps did exist (as the continental marines) but only included about 300 marines when it was founded in 1775, and its peak during the revolution was around 2000. They fought in the bahamas and at Princeton in the revolution, and afterwards both the continental navy and marines were disbanded. The US Marine Corps was reformed in 1798. The vast majority of the American Revolution was fought by the Continental Army, which had tens of thousands of total troops, aided by the French.

this is a battle at new york. and the sisters just sang about being in new york. i think this is suggesting they were directly effected by the battle outside their house, even if in reality that effect was "oh crud, we gotta flee the city so we dont get trapped on the battlefield" and a tidbit i picked up when Lin did an interview and the host asked about the use of Rap and hip hop in this historical musical, and lin explained a little. Rap has, ever since its creation been used as part of counter culture, a social rebellion mostly by people of colour. both rebellion and PoC are front and centre of the musical and war of independance, and lin said because of this he thinks that were Rap around back then the founding fathers would have embraced it.

Historical note for fun. Both sides used african american soldiers. About 20000 for the British and about 9000 for the American. Both free men and slaves are included in those numbers and both sides promised freedom to slaves in exchange for their help. The issue was quite contention amongst the Americans. As for Black and White troops fighting alongside eachother. The earliest example i can think of is in ancient egypt. So its been going on for a bit lol.
@cozy_kelpie3 ай бұрын
And many of the American slaves who were promised freedom for fighting in the war had that revoked once the war was won. Lafayette is notable for (amongst other things, obviously) being particularly offended at this dishonorable conduct. He even personally stepped in for some people he had recruited. Like no, I gave this man my word, and surely you, my good friends, would not make a liar out of me. And if you would, I have very good lawyers. (The British actually kept most of the promises they made to slaves, though I think that was no so much altruism as denying a source of free labor to the people who just defeated them.)

As someone who got into Hamilton well after it was popular but before the live recording was available on Disney+, the animatics were how I watched it for the first time. The animatics are amazing and it’s very fun to experience Hamilton through them; it felt very similar to the Epic fandom at the time, but the truer experience is watching the original cast live. Definitely check out the animatics, but I wouldn’t say it needs to be recorded and watching Casper watch the live recording as a first impression is more satisfying.

@Szin does the best animatics for Hamilton, but she only did the first act. No, slaves that served in the war had hoped to win their freedom, but most were returned to their master.
