Lyrics:
The more I read the papers
The less I comprehend
The world with all its capers
And how it all will end
Nothing seems to be lasting
But that isn't our affair;
We've got something permanent
I mean in the way we care
There's a far place, I'm told,
Where I'll find a field of gold,
But here I'll stay with you;
And they say there's an isle deep with clover,
Where your heart wears a snile all day through.
But I know well they're wrong,
And I know where I belong,
And here I'll stay with you.
For that land is a sandy illusion,
It's the theme of a dream gone astray;
And the world others woo
I can find loving you,
And so here I'll stay.
For that land is a sandy illusion,
It's the theme of a dream gone astray;
And the world others woo
I can find loving you,
Dear sir, here I guess I'll stay.
Our love is here to stay;
Not for a year
But ever and a day
The radio and the telephone and the movies that we know
May just be passing fancies
And in time may go
But, oh my dear
Our love is here to stay;
Together we're going a long, long way
In time the Rockies may crumble, Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay
But our love is here to stay

This song holds special meaning to me and my youngest son (we're both musical theatre performers/dorks). Found this version when we were searching for Mother/Son dance song suggestions for his wedding in Oct 2023, and it was simply perfect!

Whoever edited this video should know, that the applause after was the part of the performance. It was the top moment of the concert and every listener and viewer should hear and see how it was received.

When she belts the final bars I get teary eyed! Saw her live three times in 1970s and still adore her in this 92 concert!

I’m a ‘Liza nut’ and love the sound of her voice at most, if not all, of her various eras. This Radio City stage in her career holds a certain fascination with me, as this is when as others have said, her sound would change. Vocally, I believe Liza was at her zenith in 1987. The way she sounded that year, especially evidenced on her 1987 Carnegie Hall comeback album, was the perfect mix of her younger agility and her older fuller-bodied vibrato notes. I honestly get more pleasure hearing that fuller 1987 sound than say her singing in 1981 or 1971… but something changed in 1989/1990, it was such a minor change at first… A rasp would increase and shadow some of that fuller rich sound on big notes… Continually touring, touring with Frank and Sammy, recording late at night for the Pet Shop Boys album, heavy promotion for her ‘Results’ album, then touring more with Frank without Sammy, filming Stepping Out, then creating her amazing Stepping Out concert at Radio City, then touring it nationally and internationally… then performing with Charles Aznavour in 1991, then coming back to perform the radio city show for PBS and video and Laserdisc, later issued on DVD. Here we hear her on her second run at Radio City, to my ears the tone of her voice had already got ‘darker’ during the Frank and Sammy Ultimate Event tour in 1989… the big lush notes diminished slightly, but during the Charles Aznavour concert 1991 (thankfully on DVD), there was a noticeable raspiness to her voice, and upon returning to Radio City here for the 2nd engagement… 6 months after her first… the raspiness sounds like it’s ‘in the way’ of some of those once full-bodied pleasing big notes. She still sounds BRILLIANT and impressive, but the voice as we enjoyed it for a couple of decades was diminishing. The raspiness worked for songs like ‘So What’, until that character sound started to become her regular singing voice. The 1995 Tokyo concert where her voice sounds totally wrecked and shot, is what we tended to hear more of. There are moments throughout the 90s where the voice sounds fuller again for a brief flash, her vocals for ‘I Have Dreamed’ during the Pavarotti concert in 1996 sound so smooth and she has such a clean, big sound that sounds positively operatic! Listen - Don’t get me wrong, I loved her voice during the Minnelli On Minnelli era, and genuinely loved her glorious comeback sound for Liza’s Back… so I’m not hating. But I’ve read that she had a cold/flu after Paris with Charles, and returned to film this Radio City concert vocally compromised. Which would account for the moments of brief and almost indistinguishable dubbing. She dubbed sections or re-filmed close-ups for her Liza In London HBO concert back in 1986, and would do so here again at the Radio City taping. Huge sections of Liza’s At The Palace DVD/Blu-ray are outright dubbed. Liza doesn’t she away from dubbing her work, and most people are too stupid to realise. I hate dubbing, as it is distracting if you are cursed with good eyesight and things don’t match-up vocally and visually. There are bootlegs of Liza’s first engagement at Radio City in 1990, and her voice sounds fuller and less raspy, but the sad thing is, the bootlegs sound so static and noisy, it’s actually nicer listening to this pristine 1992 recording, with the raspier vocals. I think Liza was tired, she was going through a separation with her long-time husband, and perhaps she was biologically going through ‘the change’ and let’s face it, smoking like a chimney. I am grateful for all eras of Liza, for her charisma, positivity, and spirit-lifting talent. My favourite album is the 1996 Gently (Proto-‘Confessions’ haha) and her voice was never raspier, so I do enjoy that quality too. But anybody who disagrees with me needs to hear Liza sing ‘I Never Has Seen Snow’ on the 1987 Carnegie Hall album… and tell me she has ever matched that level of vocal triumph before or after.

These are Liza's finest late years as a performer!!! She may not have the pipes of a Judy or Babs but she still has all the charisma and strong tones in her performing as she did in the 70's!!!
