The idea that Y2K didn't do anything is a common misunderstanding of the system and all the workers that spent dozens of hours keeping things running correctly
@russellharrell27475 ай бұрын
It was a potential disaster that was mitigated with hard work. Mostly because the economic sectors that would have been affected included the financial industry as well as power generation. You don’t mess with those guys.

There was also a man in Russia whose bank account went nuts for a minute and he had like $6m for a short time. That was one of the bigger fears people had but it was just a few people that we known of. I find that to be a fun lil story from y2k

There was a legitimate problem with the y2k bug, but it was largely overblown: Most databases used two digits for the date, which would cause problems in automated systems. Most notably systems used for financial transactions and inventory control. And while that would have caused considerable hardship if people suddenly lost all the money in their bank accounts, or if the military lost track of their weapons. It would not, as some people speculated at the time, turn your personal computers and household appliances into ticking timebombs at the stroke of midnight. There were actually quite a few people working on the problem to make sure it wouldn't come to pass (my uncle was one). But as is the tradition with IT work: When the techs do their job well, nobody notices it.

I really appreciate the parsing Car Robots/RiD into 2001, as otherwise it well and truly would have been an extremely slanted list (Though Beast Machines does have more than the usual share of duds). The toys aren't especially accurate for a lot of Beast Machines, but they are a lot of fun, especially the Vehicons. I was generally being pretty selective during Beast Machines, but Night Viper is the big regret for not getting. Glad to see a bit of Mutant love here! I am VERY surprised not to see Obsidian on this list though (TFWiki at least says he's 2000). They're up against stiff competition for next year, but I do hope Blast Punch Primal and Night Slash Cheetor make the list for 2001

My 2000 top ten list so apparently Car Robots came out a year earlier in Japan so we got both Beast Machines and RID2001 to talk about. And no, I did not cheat on my list but I am still talking about both Car Robots and Beast Machines. 10. Longhorn: I always kind of liked this guy, his front legs are weapons but they aren't removable and there are little hands molded in that are easy to miss in beast mode unless you're specifically looking for them. 9. Night Viper: Again they managed to turn a snake into a robot which is impressive engineering. Especially at a Basic class size scale. I would usually ignore the basics but I couldn't for Beast Machines because of figures like this. 8. Skydive: He reminds me of TM Terrorsaur with the way his wings transform into arms. I like to head canon that there's an alternate reality where Terrorsaur survived the Beast Wars and switched sides during Beast Machines becoming the Maximal Skydive because he didn't want to have his sparked ripped out and reprogrammed as a Vehicon like Waspinator. 7. Snarl: The only Beast Machines toy I could never find and I really like this design. I can imagine an alternate universe where Leo Prime shows up durring Beast Machines and gets reformatted into this design. 6. Scavenger: I like this little Cybertronian construction vehicle. BTW I love all the Vehicon designs and it was really hard not to just make the whole list Vehicons. 5. Mirage: The other Vehicle mold I had to have on this list. I think I've made it clear how I feel about F1 racer designs and adding the alien aethetic of the Beast Machines vehicons on top of that, LOVE it. One of the my favorite things about these designs is that actually look like living self driving vehicles that don't need drivers. 4. Powerlinx Side Burn: Yes I'm specifying the Powerlinx version because this is my preferred color scheme for the character. 3. Landfill: And now I cheat! Although Buildking was released as a Multipack in Japan I don't recall them ever doing this with the American release. Anyway, I love this combiner. It's engineered in a why where they have 3 different combinations and can swap between them without taking any parts off. The 3 bots forming the limbs rotate around a central connection point in the torso. I've never seen any other combiner with similar engineering. 2. Omega Prime: And now I cheat AGAIN! Because he's technically figures but it's a combiner and I can't have one without the other. I'm going to excuse that the tires tire to dust after 10 years and I can't even touch mine anymore because of that. It's still a really cool design that was fun to mess with when I had them new. 1. Galvatron: I'm specifying Galvatron for 2 reasons, the first because I prefer the color scheme and more importantly because when we're talking about the Japanese release Devil Gigatron is actually a retool with 10 modes (and a secret 11th mode) but the original Gigatron version of the mold doesn't have all the extra retooling. In the U.S. Megatron was released using the Devil Gigatron version of the mold. And this is still one of my favorite figures YEARS later. So that's why he's my number 1. By the way, Jetstorm, Tankor, and Thrust would have make my list but I didn't have room for them and there were non show characters I wanted to talk about more. And next year there are very few new molds because it's what's left of Beast Meachines and RID2001 in the U.S. nothing new really came out in Japan. I'm not cheating in 2001 either so just know that my number 1 is a complete joke that would not have made the list if I included RID2001. But I put Galvatron here and since TJ kind of changed the rules I'm fully expecting Galvatron to be his number 1 in the next video.

Love seeing Skydive finally get some acknowledgement! Please remember, though, that not every big reptile from the Mesozoic was actually a dinosaur... To keep it simple: - Dinosaurs - Land dwelling reptiles that walked with their legs directly beneath their bodies (birds eventually fall under this category, Avian vs Non-Avian dinosaurs) - Marine reptiles - Mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, etc. - Pterosaurs - Winged reptiles that utilize a long wing-finger and membranes for flight (Pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus, etc.)

Beast Machines was not up to par with Beast Wars, but despite that, I still enjoyed watching the series and was curious on how it would end eventually. The toys, inaccurate for the most part (especially poor Silverbot), I still collected and got many of them, the Vehicons got the better toys, I agree on that, in all, to me, Beast Machines deserves a 6/10 as a whole, cartoon and toys. Beast Wars was more a 9/10 to me, be free to disagree with me, that's Ok.
I am all in with blackarachnia I love that figure.

Grabbed the Studio Series Lambro Deluxe wave from my local Walmart. Gamer Edition Sideswipe’s better than expected (man just needs better vehicle mode ground clearance and ankle tilts); BBM Concept Art Sunstreaker is my number 1 until he’s dethroned at some point (which is going to be hard to do given how solid he is). That, and Deluxes being $20 again makes me feel like I’m right back in 2019 at the height of Siege. Honestly, if Beast Machines gets any further presence in Legacy+, I’d love to see a hybrid half-toy, half-show approach taken to the designs. Focus on the show but incorporate gimmicks from the original toys (ex: Primal’s shuriken or Tankor’s buzzsaw man pants).

Good list. I liked the Ultra Jetstorm, but I was pretty disappointed when I unpacked him a couple years ago and saw all the chrome paint flaking off. I was never rough with the toy and none of my Transmetals or other chrome painted Transformers have done this. Is it a defect with this figure specifically? I like Blackarachnia. I missed out on her Beast Wars toy, so I was happy to get her in this form. And didn't know how inaccurate her Beast Wars toy was til way later. Mine doesn't stand on the spider legs as well because the joints are a bit loose now, but she still stands up ok.

I feel like the Beast Machines line was actually really good as a whole. It just had a few bad toys (e.g. Buzzsaw) and lacked show accuracy. My top ten from 2000 would be: 10. Skydive 9. Blackarachnia 8. Night Viper 7. Deluxe Optimus Primal 6. Snarl 5. Megatron 4. Obsidian 3. Blastcharge 2. Jetstorm 1. Tankor If I could count the Dinobots, a few of them would be in here.
