Although these are 5 amazing reasons why you should buy an Astro van, there are reasons why you shouldn't buy one. For now, look forward to me ripping off the cladding on the van. I started a Patreon for behind the scenes and I would love your support: www.patreon.com/BuildsUnited and check me out on IG: instagram.com/buildsunited_I am also thinking about starting a patreon to help with these builds! Thoughts, concerns, and critiques are welcome!

On my 3rd astro. 1st one went over 415,000 mi. 2nd one 290,000 mi. 3rd one I still own with 165,000 mi. I delivered freight over the road. As long as you change the oil and fix problems right away, it's the best. The only major problem I had was the rear axle in 2 of them were problematic. Probably had something to do with hauling heavy loads. Max weight for cargo is about 1500 lbs. I went over that weight a lot. Had plywood flooring to slide pallets on it. One pallet forward, 1 sideways, worked like a charm. Beefed up springs, spacers etc. One of the most comfortable riding seats ever.

I did a 4x4 conversion in mine with Dana rear axle lol. It works great

I am halfway through with editing the cladding video. You'll find out more, but I am glad I removed the panels. Removing the 3m adhesive is a pain , though.

Finding one that is not beat to death already because most were used as work vehicles is the key

Agree, but they can still be given another life.

@@ImChrisDeDecker yeah I'm a fan of thst era GM vehicle the 4.3 is essentially bullet proof long as the corrosive coolant issues have been addressed and they are easy to fix without much more than a $20 obd scanner n basic tools. Just some thst were used as work vans and beyond clapped out the cost of new life just dont work out math wise long haul.

I love the astro. It was a pain in the ass to work on but it's it's work horse. The worst job is trying to change the spark plugs. I've had tones of stuff fail on it: alternator, distributor, fuel pump, power steering pump. Other than that it's been good. The vehicle I have now is a 2016 chevrolet colorado 2.8 duramax diesel. I wish I could put that engine in the astro it is a fuel saver
@ImChrisDeDecker2 жыл бұрын
The spark plugs, for me, was not all that bad. Definitely harder than it should be though. If you have the right attachments, it can make the job significantly easier.

when i had a 99. Same thing. I killed fuel pump by running low on fuel. After fiasco. No matter what car I drive. I never go under 1 quarte of tank of gas.

Nice Astro, however, I prefer the stock carpet interior than the wood flooring
@ImChrisDeDecker2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The flooring matches my use nicely. Mainly a camper van, so the floor makes it easier to clean and take care of
@WizzRacing2 жыл бұрын
Just replace them intake gaskets now. As they leak coolant into the oil Then it destroys your rod and crank bearings. I done several for that issue,,, Along with fixing that crazy spider injection GM come up with.,,,

It didn't look like the back door wanted to close all the way. The astro van I bought a couple weeks ago is doing the same thing as well as some leaking back there. Im going to try some of the stuff you did for the leaking but do you have any ideas about the closing problem?
@joshreed71022 жыл бұрын
Yea Andy, if yours is AWD and engine is under 100k it has to be a POS. You should sell it. I’ll give you $500😁
@andyb60092 жыл бұрын
@@joshreed7102 lol it is none of those things except POS
@ImChrisDeDecker2 жыл бұрын
Lol @reed The door didn’t always shut like that, I messed with it at one point but I really haven’t looked to far into what’s causing it. I can only imagine it’s something to do with the latching mechanism. I’ll look into whenever I do a tuneup and I’ll try to remember to put it into the video 🙏 I watched a video today about the rear door leaking and if you see the think gasket on surrounding of the doors on the van side, the falls basically added a proper gasket to prevent water leaking.

Would be nice to consider that not everybody on the internet is American and can understand the units you are using. This American centric vibe is so tiring
@ImChrisDeDecker2 жыл бұрын
I apologize, but I do live in a America and I’m not familiar with other measurements. It’s not really a vibe, it’s simply how we do it here.
