Your first 4 tips are plausible, but stick drift is fairly quick and easy to fix so there replacing it should more be a last option. You also seem to have missed that the issue may be resolved by updating the controller software or resetting it using a pin. Depending on the issue these things should be tested before even considering replacing it. It's basic troubleshooting. If there are someone who doesn't know how to do this, then there are plenty of youtube tutorials showing you how to fix some of these problems. Specially when it comes to stick drift. With stick drift the only reasons you should really consider replacing it is if you can't fix it by cleaning the pot meters (does require you to take the controller apart, so if you are not feeling up for that then consider replacing it). One of the other reasons to replace it would be if you want to replace it rather than try to fix it.

sony know issues of stick drift and they release a controller where u can replace the sticks. The price of the components are very very cheap. 25 Euro i have to pay for one fcking stick while a controller is arround 65 Euro. A Pack of 10 (ebay) potentiometer are around 5 Euro. I've fixed my stick drift on a controller of 2 years until the actual box that held that piece that isn't supposed to have its metal bent, snapped off the side of the housing of the joystick. Looking forward to my future edge Dontrelle.

Hi John, so I have the most bizarre scenario 💔 I literally have this PS5 controller for a month now and I experiencing issues with some internal components (I assume). While using the right analog, moving the analog stick to the left (directional) it starts triggering the L2 button. So when trying to move the camera to the left on FPS games, it immediately starts to ADS. I'd just like to add that I've never dropped the controller or anything so I'm quite confused. I've contacted the merchants to see if there's anything they can do as it's still under warranty but in worse case scenario is there an easy fix for this issue? I've also ran a diagnostics on Gamepad Tester and it shows the very slightest of triggering on the L2 button when pushing the right stick to the left. By the way I'm a big fan of your videos, really has helped me to maintain my console 👍

I wouldn’t know what to do with that but I’ve run into another bizarre scenario myself. It’s been like this ever since about a month after getting my PS5 which unfortunately might just be a console problem that I’ve accepted living with (nothing else is wrong) but I actually have problems where my controllers take an abnormally long amount of time to charge. Battery life is okay on all of them, but no matter what different cables I have or controllers they all will take typically 12-24 hours to charge them fully even from 1 bar and I rarely have let them go down to less than a bar of battery. If I get lucky, maybe 8 hours of charging if it’s the white controller that came with the console but all the others take usually between the 12-24 hours which basically means most times I’m playing wired because otherwise I’d have multiple controllers charging at once.

I had a similar issue with my controller where my L3 triggered my triangle and then my triangle button broke and started working again after a few months then my down arrow stopped working and now works completely fine but now i suddenly have the worst stick drift imaginable. Never dropped the controller once or threw it.

I watched a vid and fixed mine. Had a long fiber down on the part that moves the stick. Cleaned the sensors, with a little alcohol and and moved it around and it fixed it. I had another one so the same, eh it didn’t work so I pissed smashed it lol

Try cleaning your controller with isopropyl alcohol make sure to get some in the small cracks and dry it off with a soft rag this fixed my stick drift like brand new I didn’t need to open or DIY

This is why I have 3 Dualsense controllers. Because you need them in order to play most PS5 native games that require the functionality of the controller. If you only have 1 and it dies you can't play your PS5 games and that would be annoying.

Yeah, after three of Dualshock 4 controllers connect were broken during charging up, i learned the lesson and bought this charging station for Dualsense. But there comes another problem, i think actually my right trigger is broken when i have haptic feedback turned on, instead of going smooth it just snaps at half way, and this happened like 4 days after i bought the console. Probably the best controllers i had in my hands, but very faulty.

Ive had my controller that came with the ps5 for 8 months but only used it for 2. Since ive had a scuff controller. My scuff broke and been using the controller that came with the console last 2 months. A few days ago the right stick started going the opposite direction of what I was moving. I would turn left lightly and it would start moving right. It wasn’t stick drift. Because when I let go of the stick it stopped dead center and didn’t move. So I brought the controller to the shop I bought it from, keep in mind I also pay for insurance, and they said they will not replace it and will send it in for maintenance and I will be charged for it. The controller has barely been used. Looks completely new. But according to them thats what Sony have been pushing them to do. Sony design a controller with durability issues then try to stop people from getting a new one when it breaks.

From what I've seen and heard online over the years, stick drift usually boils down to a specific tiny part that connects the stick going bad. Older systems didn't typically have the same high-volume of reported drifting cases caused by the particular part in question. The fact that the first generation DualSense used an inferior connector is clear, as they have since produced an improved version that reportedly fixed the issue. Sony using a cheap, inferior connector for their first multi-million customers is not the customers' fault, so why should the customers have to pay for Sony's blunder? Nah, just purchase a brand new controller at your local big box retail Wal-mart and check on the back of the actual controller itself for an FCC ID number (doesn't appear on the packaging). If the number ends with a number 1, it's the older model. If, however, the FCC ID ends with an 'A', you've got the new and improved model. Start using the newer controller but hold onto your purchase receipt. When it's been about 3-4 weeks (Walmart return policy for electronics is 30 days), give the old controller (again, ending with the number '1') a light cleaning with an antibacterial wipe and a return of the defective original controller - being open about the fact that it started drifting- and get a refund. Hope this helps someone out there.

I already have both the Circle and Triangle buttons sticking on a New Duel Sense 5 controller, the Triangle button being the worst sticking problem. It's frustrating because I bought an extra controller when I finally got a PS5 and it's the controller I've used the least. Nope, haven't had such an issue, maybe you are heat throttling, I would recommend pulling off your side plates and seeing if your air intakes are clogged up with dust not allowing proper cooling. I've seen other YT channels have PS5's not working correctly and that was the issue.

@@LeviAckerman-fg4ww that’s normal, 60 FPS isn’t actually exactly 60, for me my tv says it’s running around 59,33 FPS, it kind of depends on the game, and it also depends on if you’re on resolution or performance mode, when i was playing LIS True Colors on resolution mode it kept jumping from 48 to 59.22 FPS, then when i changed it to performance mode, apart from the noticeable difference in fps it was at a consistent 59.33 again

If replacing the battery is required, I have no problem doing so but if it's stick drift, I l'll keep replacing the dualsense until gulikit develops and sells their hall effect sticks for the og dualsense to sony or any other third party online/physical shops.

I've had my original ps5 controller for since launch. Now it has reached the stage where it can no longer connect to my ps5, it blinks for half a second when I press the ps button while connected with a cable. no matter what I do now, it just won't turn on :( I'll have to buy a new one or learn to take it apart and replace the battery.

Mine dies after 20-30 minutes despite full charge. I have the official dock, and leave 2 of them overnight. One is fine, but the L2 button is loose - which I know how to fix - but the other dies quickly no matter what. Anything I can do to fix this?

If these problems happen with the new controller, I'll just throw up my hands and hope someone will come up with a good aftermarket controller that MIGHT be any better but cheaper

I broke the adaptive trigger spring on my first one because of astro's playground monkey bar level, trying to get platinum Luckily sony replaced mine for free, 2nd one is doing well so far

My Dualsense got no light at all now, it still got battery left though(blinked only once orange light while plugged to charge) BUT no response after pressing PS button or trying to pair

So what about pressing your controller buttons and your D pad yet nothing happens until the 3rd or 4th press like its unresponsive for 5 or 6 seconds then boom it will kick in? Thats not only on my D pad but also my normal buttons. Also im getting what I believe to be stick drift, you will move left or right and it'll keep going without your fingers even touching it thats the stick drift yall are talking about right when you release your thumb but it stays in motion? Also I bought this controller like just over a month ago brand new in the box from game and I am taking it back with the warranty tomorrow to get a replacement. I can't work out whats going on with mine I really cant its literally a month or so old? The PS5 controllers are absolutely shite and had I known this from the start I may have gone for a different platform like maybe the Series X.

I need urgent help. My friend has problems connecting the PS5 controller to the console, since he moved to a new room he cannot connect the PS5 controller at all, not a single controller to both consoles, because he has two TVs and two PS5 consoles. He tried in other rooms and everything works normally , but in that new room the signal is weak or lost, some say that maybe some kind of metal is interfering with the signal. And the controller is only 20 centimeters away from the console, so if you can help, it would be nice.
