i like the different versions of Calypso that are portrayed in modern media like in Percy Jackson, Percy finds her as this melancholic girl who has accepted her fate and decides to help him because she realizes he cant stay with her, "The gods always send me a hero who cant stay" in the same media, in Heroes of Olympus, when Leo meets her, shes more vengeful and spiteful at being abandoned and forgotten (they end up together it all good) In EPIC: Jay dives into a more realistic characterization; shes literally a child stuck in an adult body, and shes immortal so theres no escaping her fate. shes literally been quarantined her whole life and the first guy that lands, shes like yep mine, because she doesnt want to be alone anymore. Odysseus tells her "im not your pet, im a married man" and Calypso cant accept that he belongs to someone else, so decides to try and possess him for herself, like keeping the man hostage for years and years in the hopes that ONE day he MIGHT fall in love with you

I know this almost certainly wasn't the intention, but when I was listening to 600 strike, I started developing a theory that Odysseus essentially became a god. Like, in the mythology, Odysseus is a demigod and there are instances where a demigod ends up becoming essentially a full god upon their death. So Odysseus taking his final breath and reawakening as a god is completely possible. He really did die as the man, and came back as a god, as a monster. The main crux of the theory is the ensemble. I recall a while ago a short that Jorge put out where he explained that the background vocals were always diagetic (always in the world, like the crew themselves are actually singing "Full speed a ahead") except for the gods, where they basically just generate the background vocals from nothing (like when posiedon is taunting Odysseus, the crew isn't singing "when does a man become a monster", that's posiedon generating that as part of his taunt). So, in 600 strike, the entire time backing up Odysseus, we hear his crew chanting "600 men" over and over. Something that shouldn't be diegetically happening, but if Odysseus is now on the same level as a god, he could be generating that noise. The only other bit of evidence is really just Odysseus winning. In the mythology mortals can't win, it's foolish to even think it possible, so if Odysseus manages to actually overpower posiedon, it would stand that he'd be like on the same level, no longer mortal. It would also explain why posiedon doesn't just... immediately flood Ithaca and kill Odysseus as soon as he heals. I would doubt he's think Odysseus could get another wind bag to do that again. And like Poseidon said, he has a reputation....which would be absolutely shot if he got his ass kicked by a mortal. But being beaten by another god, that's a different story. Like, it's not a strong theory, and I don't think it was intended, but it's been interesting to think about at the very least.

I always thought of Calypso as a child in an adult body due to being on the island alone since she was a child. She had no way to develop maturely cause there were no experiences or anyone that could allow her develop into a mature woman. While she develops into that physically, mentally she’s still the same child that was cast away on the island. Glad to see that my interpretation is canon now.
