I’d never buy a sedan, no matter what. They sit too low. There a bunch of people driving around in SUVs and Pickups that will ride over this car in an accident. You are much safer in a small SUV and they get almost the same mpg. Gas prices are dirt cheap anyway. I always get stuck with sedans as rental cars. They scrape on every bump.

Bobby Kuntz the new cvt is excellent. I have a 2019 Forte with it. I’m a manual transmission type of guy but I love this transmission. I get over 40 mpg. Also I’ve driven my Dad’s Palisade with the 8 speed auto, the Cvt has a wider gear ratio spread. Better low ratio and superior overdrive ratio. Smoother too. Of course the 8 speed is superior for reliability and heavier use, but for a light car, they’re fine.

Nah not for these small cars. They have to meet stringent fleet fuel economy numbers so the CVT is necessary. If you noticed, they use a dry clutch DCT in the hybrid too because those are known to be extremely efficient but can handle more torque and are more reliable than the CVT. They probably won’t offer a traditional torque converter automatic on this generation of Elantra seeing as though the N-Line and N models will also likely make use of manual transmissions and DCTs

I have a 2018 and I love the look of it. I personally don’t like the 19s and 20s, how they look in the front. This is definitely better looking than those models. Hopefully they’ll stick to this styling for a few years and add a sport model!

I like it, i wish they add dual injection to more of their cars. I have an Ioniq and get near 60 mpg driving like grandma. I put a catch can on the car 1 week after I bought it avoid GDI issues later, I have 42k on it now and intake seems completely clean. I also have 2019 Camry v6 since I'm an old man and that's my weekend fun car.

Great video TFL, as usual! Cudos to Hyundai for really stepping out of the design norm, but I think they went a touch too far on the exterior, the finer details in particular. The interior is beautifully done. Atkinson with DI engine tech means better longevity and reliability as well. Toyota had been doing it for years. Overall, nice job!

You made a mistake. The 2021 Elantra is bigger than the Corolla. The 2021 Elantra has a length of 184.1 inches. The length of the Corolla is 182.5 inches, and the Civic is 182.7 inches. This makes the Elantra the biggest compact sedan in the category.

The engine and transmission are just carried over from the 2020 pokemon edition. It's also the same engine as in my 2018. It's a smooth engine with decent pep and gets phenomenal MPGs, so I'm fine with that carryover.

@@palebeachbum Rant alert! Yes, I'm sure it was tuned for economy over performance and from what I have read, the CVT is better than most, although long term reliability is yet to be determined. Perhaps driving passion is a thing of the past, we seem to be stuck in this "suv/truck limbo" with car manufacturers wondering which way forward. ( ie; internal combustion, electric, turbo's, cvt's, etc) Auto designers are trying to excite or distract us with visually interesting exterior panels but under the hood it's a soulless drone machine, a 2.0L turbo is the most common engine across the board today and I'm bored of it.

I think I really like the design overall, but I'm tempted to say I really hate some of the details, such as the origami creases in the side, the giant trapezoidal shape on the rear bumper, and the creases on the trunk lid. Maybe I'll like these details better in person. I love the long, low, and wide stance. Though I will say, if this car sits even lower than my 2018, that's a problem. As it is, the chin of my car scrapes on curbs and sidewalks, as do the doors when opening them against curbs. I don't recall having that issue with past cars I've owned. The interior is a total knockout. Wow! Very premium looking.

This car has all the necessary technology to have full speed Stop & Go cruise and Lane Follow Assist, but instead they dumbed down the technology. This car has only the lane keep assist and the simple version of the adaptive cruise (disengages under 6mph). 2020 Corolla is way better

Ahmed Moosaji well Hyundai did hire Audi designers a few years back and all manufacturers have to copy each other this is nothing new to be surprised about. Am disappointed of the overall exterior design. Best selling and most popular, the Elantra need a standout appeal. The "angular" shape of various features such as the tail lights, the front grill, the flashback lines etc resembles the Civic concept. In short, the Elantra lives under the shadow of it's major competitor, the Honda Civic. Wish Hyandai could do something similar to what they've done before, from grounds up, something that captures the heartbeat of the average youngster, like what the first innovative, fresh, and absolutely no copying of any other product's design ten years ago when the "new" Elantra was launched. Something that they have been so proud for a long long period of time. Really looking forward for something that breaks ice.

I agree somewhat. The 2016 was stylish when it came out, but the styling didn't age well. Looks like a jellybean now with a droopy face. Then the 2017-18 came out and I thought it was such an handsome and upscale looking compact sedan. They basically refined the looks of the previous design into something better proportioned and more elegant. It was an evolution of the design, rather than a revolution. I liked it so much I bought myself a 2018. Then the 2019-20 facelift, which left me scratching my head and thinking "Wth? Well that was a weird move." The rear got flat and ugly. The face looks like a Pokemon, and the interior detail changes looked tacky to me. Now this all-new 2021 has me on the fence. Part of me loves how dynamic the styling is. It'll resemble nothing else on the road. I love the distinctiveness. I'm not sold on the droopy face with oversized grill. I'm torn on the rear end. To me the proportioning looks a bit off. Maybe I'll like it better in person. I do like how the taillight bar extends all the way across. The interior is a knockout. Extremely upscale and classy looking. I just hope they offer a 2-tone interior color scheme, rather than the bland monochromatic black.
