Looks like an ideal place for a spring switch.

No tail light on the back when the departing at the end !! Did the Driver carry out a brake test ? How does he do one on his own ?
@TrainspottingMax-lk7ny9 ай бұрын
For the tail light issue, the final destination of the train (Waterloo yard) is only a few miles away, and it’s a single track with pretty much no other trains, so I guess it’s more or less safe to travel there without a tail light.

Believe me after serving 33yrs on the s&t dept the term switch & points is used in equal measure!!!!!

Very interesting. I would also like to see the procedures when reversing long freight trains into yards or sidings. I don't know but I assume drivers would have radio contact with ground staff in that situation?
@Locomotief239 ай бұрын
Why? To change direction?
@TrainspottingMax-lk7ny9 ай бұрын
Yes, to go onto a branch line that goes in the opposite direction.

Switches aren't locked? Is that common?
@TrainspottingMax-lk7ny9 ай бұрын
Not very common, most of them are automatic now.
@newage39 ай бұрын
@@TrainspottingMax-lk7ny 99% of all point NOT on a running line are manually operated, US type "Switch stands" have a locking bar on the point handle and a user operated ground frame with have a locking device but all are operated by ground bases personnel

No shunter ? The Driver has to do it now !? WTF ! That's gonna be a bit difficult at places where there are spring loaded points ! When I worked for BR in the 80s we always used to go through points without changing them ! Sometimes the handle didn't half flick back with at lot of force especially when going through them at speed ! Couldn't have done them much good !
@22pcirish9 ай бұрын
There are few if any spring points now. Derailment risk.
@dannydavies28709 ай бұрын
You don't reverse a train . Its rather propel or set back .
@22pcirish9 ай бұрын
So many errors. Oh my.
@newage39 ай бұрын
1 - They are "Points" not switches as we are not in the US 2 - Train not secured with hand breaks or scotches 3 - Driver standing on the rail head (Violation) 4 - Unsecuring coupling and break hose before coupling back up 5 - Train moving without a break continuity test being carried out 6 - Train moving on a running line without a tail light fix to the rear And that`s how it should NOT be done - COLAS COWBOYS.

Dangerous if doing this at night alone
@TrainspottingMax-lk7ny9 ай бұрын
It happens quite often in the dark, but not at night.
@22pcirish9 ай бұрын
No. I’m a freight driver and doing this in the dark is regular and fine.
